The MNGRR has undergone major changes regarding changes in leadership and restructuring. Furthermore, the museum suffered a fire that destroyed a number of tools and damaged #7. We need your support to keep steam alive! There are very few active steamers left in New England in 2010 (6 that I can think of). Visit mngrr.org and buy a membership and/or donate to the #7 fund today!
I think I've been on that before on vacation like 12 years ago, Nova Scotia used to have old trains, but the Provincial Government didn't give enough funding for it, so we stopped having old trains operate. That's what I like about Maine, all the old school trains, that actually still run.
I have always loved these little trains. Have you been to the WW&F in Alna Maine, or to this railroad Maine Narrow Gauge? Many people seem to think that because these trains aren't 3' narrow gauge, that they are ammusement park trains, but really, they were built to haul freight and passengers through the unforgiving Maine mountains and foot hills. Yes, they went to Edaville and worked at an ammusement park, but that was far from their intended purpose.
The Narrow Gauge in Portland always amuses me. I find it funny how the whole point behind many of the narrow gauge railroads was for more powers in mountains and such. Its been a while since I have gotten to see it.
About a week ago I got to see a guilford train parked on the rails near Bangor. Just sitting there, couldn't find an engineer or anything but it was just sitting there
Can't do that with a steamer. If you get caught leaving a steam engine without a train crew person near it while it is fired up, lots of problems can arise. You should see the W, W, & F if you like MNG. They pull out of the yard with a load of ballast and a steam engine, pretty fast.
Nice video. Our diesel horn doesn't sound as good as that one does. Watch one of my videos of the W, W, & F Ry in Alna Maine, and you will see what I am talking about. However, the bell sounds nice. Talk to you guys
Awesome. That is quite a narrow cab. Time for me to build another critter :)

It sure does! The old-cast Nathan P3 on that little GE is one of my favorite locomotive horns.

Been on it a couple of times. Good asset for the city of Portland. I wish Manchester could have something like this.
