@Torkgasmicgirl8 It has six runways one of which is 16,000 feet for 747 and A380. The city and airport are one mile up. The take off speed for a 747 180 mph or 155 kts. More runway means they can get up to that speed fast and burn less fuel on the take off. The runways were put where they were to cut down on planes taking off or landing into the wind.

@Torkgasmicgirl8 It has six runways one of which is 16,000 feet for 747 and A380. The city and airport are one mile up. The take off speed for a 747 180 mph or 155 kts. More runway means they can get up to that speed fast and burn less fuel on the take off. The runways were put where they were to cut down on planes taking off or landing into the wind.

The F-22 Raptor does not need a lot of runway to take off. If they still flew the Concorde and were going to take off from Denver it would need that 16,000 foot runway to get up to 225 mph/195 kts.
