Owners can run them at any RPM they wish. I just figured that John Deere and GM knew how these were to be operated since they state it clearly in all service manuals. Maybe they do not know their own equipment.

thanks for the info i didnt know that the detroit needed to run that fast , That little 440 has ben a verry handy machine at my camp i try to baby it every chance i get .

That GM 2-53 will die a quick death if you run it under load at less than wide open. (1,950 RPM) They are designed to "scream" to make them run at the right temp, etc.
