Chicago Illinois Kenwood High Class of 83......Big up to the OLe schoolers from ...Hyde PArk ...South Shore ...The HighLands.....Jeffrey Manor....Chatham ....Avalon Park....Pill Hill............Nothing but good memories
@opawari Ive searched high and low for the original version on every music site i can think of and its nowhere to be seen,i finally came across it after scouring through loads of 80"s albums, its on one called soul weekender so i bought it from amazon for £5 !
searched for this because i was reminded of it by someone close dying recently, but have a vague feeling this is not the version i had in my head. ( I don't mean the Eddie Grant version) Less 80's synth would suit me, think it makes the sound a bit ropey but love the funky guitar, drumming and "trippin' on sunshine" bit, This could be updated or improved on, make a "summer " hit and a change from the wailing and obscenities in current chart pop.
My boy LI Frank Cicarelli from DJ's NITE CLUB in Lake George spunned the hell out of this song when he opened Scandels in Glenn Falls NY back in the early 80's
Lol mike, I was there for that too ! I probably missed Joe playing this version, allthough I did arrive in the morning when the Eddie Grant version was playing. Great tracks. Hope you had fun at that party !
fun house, broadway 96, the underground, the garage, danceteria, classic 80's clubs.. i saw them at broadway 96 in the mid 80's..they were 2 ratsa dudes and 2 white blond girls..black girl in front of me grinding on me..wound up making out w her..still remember her name, natalie, at least thats what she told me
IM BACK IN 1979 walking into Pulsations up to the dance floor with smoke comming out of the hovering spaceship ,then a spotlight comes blasting down and a robot comes slowly out of the spaceship and starts dancing...WOW,crazy night there...girls girls girls, sex going on everywhere!!!!
CLASSIC NYC underground vibe...hearing this i'm transported back to the floor of the "G", with the world's best soundsystem and Larry pumpin this. Or the streets and parks of NYC, via huge boxes tuned to KISS and WBLS FM and "extended commercial-free music sweeps".
Rockers Revenge. such a rip off from Eddy Grant's " Walking on sunshine" I wonder if E. Grant ever sued them for copyright infringement. Rocker Revenge have managed to win the hearts of many people at the time with this watered down version. It was even more popular the the original.hell, it got more radio play. This version pales in comparison to theoriginal version.Eddy Grant put out a monster when he came out with that LP. the Whole LP was to die for. Who knows what I'm talking 'bout!
you're so right, the 80's were the time to be young, we had SO much fun, I almost feel sorry for the kids now they just dont know what they've missed out on.
@ezetobebad agree mate - never was in to the whole essex boy casual "soul boy " scene but always secretly loved this tune as it had a great vibe to it. Soon as house music came along that was it though.....
I like this a big lot. Its a shame that the arthritus has stared to set in - but I can still get up and shuffle around the house to it. That's right get thereeeeeeeeeeee
although they were originally a put together band by producer arthur baker donnie calvins vocal in this is far better than grants i dont care if youre a grant fan x
there's actually nothing original about this song,Eddy Grant did the original walking on sunshine, and there are excerpts from several other songs in this record
The other way around. D-Train broke new ground even influencing Planet Rock which also came out later. Wow, those were some exciting years. Early 80s. Probably nothing like it again. It was like a wonderful perfumed flower that came and was quickly gone. After '83, it was all downhill with the programmed computers and electronics. Early 80s mixed both natural talent and technology. A far cry from today's music.
After 83 the hard linn drum snare hammered all productions. I hated it then and now. I love the hole period of 70s and beginning of 80s. Real musicians == real music
Thank you for the info. My comment is just a respond to egjag's comment, which I totally agree with. By the way, I loved this Arthur Baker production a lot till today. My point is that my heart beats for disco music from real musicans. When I just hear a drumm computer the track spreads already the aura of death for me. Take car.
@hotfriday you know that is such a cliche, naive, self-rightous immature notion of music that snotty people like you go around espousing when infact when pressed on the legitmacy of the claimn it's always revealed to be baseless demagoguery further underscoring the fundamental ego-centric "hey everybody look at me" personality of some musicians as opposed to the "WHO CARES HOW IT'S MADE JUST HAVE FUN AND DANCE" attitude of the ones who really like the MUSIC, not the means of it's production.
@egmjag OMG you are SOOO dead on about that. From the late 70's (even mid 70's) to about 83, it was sheer bliss. I remember, I FELT it changing at that point, I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but the new songs just didn't keep me on the dance floor like they used to. And it's been a long, slow slide ever since. Thank God I came of age in a Time and Place where I could bear witness to the Greatest Club Scene Ever. 84 King St will always be my Temple.
@njplr Your so right,i also remember the disco theme slipping away after 83. Oh to go back to the 80"s nite club scene, mirror balls, illuminated dances floors.. Good times !!
In the late 80´s there was a re-mix of (E.T phone home) tune we used to break dance too. The tunes in my head constantly but i can´t remember the title/artist.

I remeber cruising in Bensonhurst at night . Everyone was out .We were in traffic Blaring anything freestyle .
Remember the Arena on metropolitan ave In Queens . The Guidos used to wear white silk Puma and Sergio Tachini Jump suits but with black shoes just to get into the club . haha
Ok...OK..now talk about blaring the tunes...we would cruise Tremont Ave in the Bronx all the way down to the Throgs Neck Bridge and have "Play At Your Own Risk" (which is my all time favorite)
mis amigos dejenme decirles que esta rola es puro oro esta' a la altura de cod y africa baambataa es el incio del del breakdance cuando enpezaron a mesclar soul y surgio el funk para luego desarollarse el break lastima no tener el video original
