In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Horatio G. Spafford, March 17, 1814
Read any of American founding documents. The phrase "Separation of Church & State" At all. This is an outright liberal lie.The first Amendment means that the US cannot declare Islam, Christianity, etc. the official religion of the land & force everyone to join.It does not prohibit using tax payer dollars for religious institutions or restrict public displays of religion."Our Rights are endowed by our Creator". The Ten Commandments sit outside the Supreme Court.
The Pope is the anti Christ, he changed the Sabbath day from Saturday to Sunday, he claimed God gave him this right. Daniel said the anti Christ would think to change Gods times and laws. The pope burned and tortured millions of Christians, Daniel said the anti Christ would kill Gods saints and overpower them. The pope came out of the divided Roman empire and called himself God and the vicar of Christ. Daniel said the anti Christ would exault himself as high as JESUS the anointed one.
The historical fact regarding the phrase "Seperation of Church & State" is that the phrase was coined by Thomas Jefferson in a letter he wrote in 1802 to the Danbury Baptists assuring them that the government would not interfere with their theological beliefs. History revisionists, wanting to be "politically correct" have taken that phrase and warped it 180 degrees to try to keep all referances to God banned from the public sector.
1st First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." The modern concept often credited to the writings of English philosopher John Locke, the phrase "separation of church and state" is generally traced to an 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists
There is no such thing as "seperation of Church and State" that phrase is not in the Constitution! No where in the Constitution or Amendments are the words "seperation" "church" or "state". Not only that but the phrase is not found in ANY founding document. Please people- actually read the Constitution before you comment ,otherwise you continue to show your ignorance just as JFK and others who did not actualy read the Constitution.
We have no goverment armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion...Our Constitution was made ONLY for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the goverment of any other.
John Adams-one of only two founders to sign the Bill of Rights (and thus the First Amendment)-believed that our Constitution would function improperly without religious values and standards in society
President George Washington (who presided over the formation of both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights), in his "Farewell Address "confirmed that under American public policy, religious teachings and values must NEVER be removed from public arenas. He even pronounced religion and morality as the two most important foundations for political prosperity in America, decalring of all habits that lead to political prosperity religion and morality are indispensable supports.
i hope religion remembers that GOD gave us free will and reliigion wants to take it away, if they can't live side by side with other religous people and with gays in peace then want gives them the right to enter heaven, SO what would jesus do.
You'll be sorry when the government is mandating everything you do. There is a reason why we have seperation of church and state, to preserve both people.
Putting the Lord's name on our money which is proclaimed by the word of God "the love of money is the root of all evil". Putting the Lord's name on something that if we love it will result in evil is nothing more than using the Lord's name in vain by the state. So much for the seperation of church and state.
You misinterpret the Word of God. He did not condemn all money. If you read the verse using critical thinking, you would understand that just because you USE money does not necessarily mean you LOVE money. The Bible warns against placing money above our love of God and His principles.
OK enough is enough! We Christians are getting fed up with YOUR LIES! This is a time to put it all on the table. I said ALL, not just what one or two of what the founding fathers said in a letter. My the way we had more then 2 founding fathers there was over 200! If you want to be honest lets lay them all on the table! For one thing if this country was founding on secular reason then what the hell reason did they have to use the The New England Primer in the schools? watch?v=4jPsdmOY9NM Honesty
No kidding there were more than just 2, but those 2 became President. This is not Saudi Arabia and if you fanatics want to live in a theocracy I am sure Saudi Arabia will welcome you with open arms. Until them keep your imaginary friend out of government business and shut up about it. I am sure if your god had a problem he would say something.....still waiting. I know how bad you wish we still had slavery and a housewife in every home but time is moving forward. Get over it.
Don't waste your time chasing fairytales. There's not, nor has there ever been a god. There was never a Jesus. There's nothing after death but the ground. I just hope you come to realize that before you die. Live freely while you still can. You're never going to get another chance.
What we need to focus on is not seperation of church and state. What we need more than anything else right now is the seperation of private corporations and the government. This unholy union has taken the lives of millions upon millions of people just within the last couple of decades. Time for people to wake up and not be distracted by these types of overplayed non issues like 'church and state'. That's not the problem we're faced with in 2008
listen to some of the evangelicals, they speak of a christian empire like the first reich. well they can be smashed againts the phalanx of reason before they take our courts like those of rome.
aajoe:"And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God to confess their sins & transgressions in humble sorrow yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon & to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures & proven by all history that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord"
My earlier views of the unsoundness of the Christian scheme of salvation and the human origin of the scriptures, have become clearer and stronger with advancing years and I see no reason for thinking I shall ever change them.--Abraham Lincoln to Judge J S Wakefield after his son Willie Lincoln died in 1862.
When the Know-Nothings get control, it [the Declaration of Independence] will read: "All men are created equal except negroes, foreigners and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretense of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.--Abraham Lincoln letter to Joshua F Speed, August 24, 1855.
"And whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God to confess their sins & transgressions in humble sorrow yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon & to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures & proven by all history that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord"
It is so cute when you Christers claim this country being built on Christian values and morals, was a good thing. Let's look at them values and morals; slavery, racism, limited to no rights for women, fear of Native Americans to the point of mass slaughter, burning witches, etc.. As for our founding documents, there is no reference to Jesus, Christ, Savior, Redeemer, Emmanuel, Holy Spirit, El Shaddi, or any other biblical reference to the biblical gods and ghosts. In fact, the only mentions
jor: instead of invoking others to fight your battles, how about you show me where America's founding documents mention the Judeo-Christian god. For the record, I have watched Dsouza vs Dennet and in the context of your rebuttal to my post, I do not see how this particular debate proves your point. Try being specific from now on. My bet is, you cannot.
of a god are generic, such as deity and creator. Sorry to engage you with FACTS. Another FACT, the Treaty of Tripoli was unanimously approved by the Senate in 1797 and clearly states in Article 11, "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion;" It is true that some of the framers were Christians, not fundys however, but most were deist who in their private letters, memoirs and diaries denounced any connection to Christianity. FACT
laintNoGood: It's amusing to read how the info you agree with are deemed FACTS, while those you disagree with are not. This is typical of intolerant and small-minded thinking.
jor: what is more amusing is your ambiguous accusation. How about offering some specifics? Everybody disagrees, whether it is religious, political, sports, personal, etc.. Your pseudo rebuttal is what is small-minded. If America's founding documents DO reference Jesus, Christ, Messiah, Jehova, YWHW, El Shadi, Emmanuel, Holy Spirit, Trinity, Virgin Mother, etc., then offer the evidence. I do not disagree for the sake of disagreement. I disagree with unsubstantiated claims & revisionist history.
We cannot read the history of our rise & development as a nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic Where we have been the truest & most consistent in obeying its precepts we have attained the greatest measure of contentment & prosperity
"Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under".
For the record there princess, none of these president's were founding fathers. You can quote mine congratualtions! And WOW how impressive that you found public statements of politicians, politicking to Christians. The ironic thing about Reagan is, you are too stupid to realize he also believed in fortune tellers and based his travels and some of his policies on what his personal fortune teller told him. Not only that, what he did for the poor and needy would shame Jesus if he rellay existed
LMGDAO at Pascal's Wager. You hypocrites make me laugh so fucking hard it is not funny. When you get put in your place you immediately run and yell threats of eternal torture in the eternal torture chamber, which was created by your "loving god" for the creation he supposedly loves dearly. LMGDAO
pascal's wager is idiotic. there's much more to take into consideration than just "if i'm wrong, it doesn't matter. if i'm right, i win". for example, what if there is a god, but it isn't the judeo-christian god? what if you believe in the wrong god and go to hell for it? out of ALL the religions that claim to have "proof" and "evidence", what makes you right? pick up a book and get educated. *and not one filled with magic talking snakes and burning talking shrubbery*
right, but it DOES mean that they're trying to prove christianity, and christians have been known to make stuff up that defies the laws of physics, therefore making it irrational.
Religious people are the ones who claim knowledge that NOBODY could possibly know! Yet you accuse others of being know-it-alls?? You're so full of shit your eyes are brown!
d3rkaderk4: First of all, there is MUCH proof of His existence. Basically EVERY faith has Him documented...including Muslims.
Funny how you say 'ignorant old person'. It states JUST WHAT YOU SAY IN THE BIBLE. Most had faith in times past...it's the generations when the end is nearing who will deny.
If you're intellectual as you say you are, you would be wise & study.
Nothing but your own ego-centric view makes your brand of faith any more worth study than any of the thousands of others practiced today and in yesteryear. The bible states many things and leaves plenty of room for dishonest people to interpret their way to whatever position they think best suits them. You can think of the "end-times" prediction of the populace losing its faith as a stop-gap measure put in place to attempt to dissuade the inevitable decline of yet another religion.
yeah a lot of faiths have him in them. some call him mitra, others call him osirus, and yet others call him horus. it seems jesus is just one name of the same mythological character. so study up, history merges with biology, astrophysics, philosophy and also psychology to tell us that christianity is mythology.
Documented miracles and scientifically impossible feats are what the claims of Jesus are about genius! And documentation and eye-witness tall tales don't prove fucking anything!
If sep. of church/state were a true concept, why have churches been expected ALL THESE YEARS to follow STATE rules regarding zoning codes, building codes, employment laws, tax codes, health codes, etc, etc.? Have you been vocal about churches being freed from these STATE regulations being IMPOSED ON THEM??? No double standards!
jor: this rebuttal is a straw man and extremly ignorant. The Seperation of Church and State is about the melding of or joining of Government and Religion. It has nothing to do with religion getting a pass on the laws of the land. A church cannot serve tainted food, just because they are a church. We have laws to protect our citizens regardless of their religious affiliation. Churches cannot own sweat shops just because they claim religous freedom. Your argument is childish at best.
Austin is Great! If for nothing else 'The Atheist Experience' TV show. Amen to Matt Dillahunty, Russell Glasser, Jeff Dee, and Don Baker! ACA Rocks!!!!
PathofReason: You seriously need to study the real meaning of separation of church & state. You are incredibly WRONG. You sure are ignorant on the subject to be making a speech.
Swa6543: No, because it's WRONG. Our country was founded upon Christianity. Dec of Ind: ~Endowed by Our Creator~ Motto: In God We Trust. Our founding fathers opened up every meeting with Christian prayer. Sep of Church & State was brought about only for taxation/churches. Watch 'Rediscovering God in America'.
Swa6543: 'An establishment of religion'...you need to read all of it. "Establishment" was a church...they didn't feel it would be fair for tax dollars to be spent on a particular DENOMINATION...i.e. Catholic / Baptist. All of this is obviously well documented and is FACT.
ytdsmom - The national motto was changed to "In God We Trust" during the 1950s. In the Declaration of Independence, "creator" is a generic term that can mean your parents. They left that distinction up to the reader. Obviously state/church separation was important to them as well, since they made the 1st Amendment at all. Take American History.
no- creator is not clear at all - yahweh would have been clear. you are a sad sad person. grow up. The founding fathers were deist - try getting your history lessons from someone other than your preacher.
driubi: You are choosing to be ignorant because I history does not support your youthful political ideas. If you really wanted to know if our country was founded upon Christianity, there are many, many references. Watch 'Rediscovering God in America'. History proves you WRONG.
If you will notice in the Constitution no mention of Jesus, Yahweh or Elohim can be found. End of story. The word Creator is not specified. Nevertheless in other news Saudi Arabia was founded on Islam. Look how well thats turning out.
Democracy is mentioned nowhere in the Bible...you would think that if our country was founded as a Christian nation "Forgiveness" would be a big part of the system. Democracy is not a middle eastern ideal. Guess where Christianity was started?
The word Creator is specified....instead of spending so much time trying to prove that our country was not founded upon Christianity, why don't you actually search for the truth. You don't want to know because it would prove you WRONG.
ytdsmom - What would it mean for our country to be "founded upon Christianity?" Does that mean we're all Christians? That's not true, so I doubt that's it. Does it mean that only Christians are allowed here? That's also not true. What are you trying to say exactly?
aajoeyjo: We do not want the Christian values ripped from the fabric of our society. Also, with reference to your Atheism...why would you not trust a book that is right on with prophecy? Prophecy even today. If it were any other book, ppl would be in awe. Because it's the Bible, ppl are not interested. 100prophecies(dot)org(/)page3(dot)htm
ytdsmom - No one is trying to rip Christian values away from society. Except unless you think theocracy is a Christian value, which many Christians do. I don't trust any book that mentions prophecy in anything other than a critical way. Prophecies are not impressive to people who actually verify results. Why do you automatically trust the religion you were instructed to?
aajoeyjo: I wasn't instructed to believe anything...I sought the truth on my own. Again, the Bible has been proven time & again....with prophecies fulfilled, Noah's Ark found, etc. It's just some ppl want to spend their energy trying to prove the Bible wrong when the answers are at their fingertips. Sounds to me like you may have had some bad experience....if so, I am sorry about that & hope you find peace.
ytdsmom Someone found some ancient wood that belonged to a boat a long time ago. What's impressive about that? What prophecies are you so impressed by? We don't need to prove the Bible wrong, we just need to read it out loud. It disproves itself, and all of its supernatural claims are the irresponsible parts you have a burden of validating. THAT sounds like a bad experience for any Bible believer.
aajoeyjo: Some ancient wood that was the EXACT same measurements described in the Bible. Who gave us the conscience between right & wrong? If there's no right/wrong & heaven/hell, why don't we just do as we please for our own personal gain? How could our bodies have just evolved...from our pupils to fingerprints? By accident? That's HARDER to believe in my opinion.
ytdsmom They found some wood. Congratulations. That's not impressive. Why do you need someone to "give you" your conscience? Were you not born with any human brain? Evolution doesn't "just" happen, it's obvious. Everything changes, even religions. "Accident" is a bias term. You want religion to be true. You're biased.
aajoeyjo: Yes, of course I was born with a brain....but who put the conscience within us? Look around at every minute detail of our bodies & everything else in the world. I don't believe it all just evolved without a designer behind it.
ytdsmom - Your brain came with a lot of that conscience built in. The rest of your morals came from your upbringing and the life experiences you've had since then. No religion or god is necessary for that to naturally occur. If you want there to be a designer so badly, doesn't it bother you that one hasn't been found? Yet we find fossils, canyons and other proof of a really old universe.
ytd, it is people like you who scare me. The argument that we need a superantural judge to keep us from disrespecting our brothers and sisters, only tells me that those who believe in that supernatural judge, have problems with self control. They would rather rape, pillage and kill than respect their neighbor, BUT, BUT because they fear the eternal torture chamber, they will tow the line and refrain from their hearts desires. My message to you is, BELIEVE, PLEASE BELIEVE as long
as it keeps my family and friends safe from your perverted desires. If you need to fear a mytholigical torture chamber, then PLEASE FEAR IT. Be AFRAID, VERY AFRAID! But do not project your immorality and deep seeded desires onto others. If you cannot keep it in the pants, as it were, do not assume others have your same dysfunctional issues. Thank god I escaped the Christ cult. My life is far more richer and I have a far more appreciation and respect of others.
laintNoGood: You are obviously the one with problems; who said I had issues? I just choose to believe in a higher power unlike you. That makes me scary? I was a "good" & decent person who respected others...even prior to Christianity. I don't push my faith on anyone, but if asked about it, I'm not going to lie in order to satisfy someone else's beliefs. Close to 90% of Americans believe in God...get used to it.
Again, if you need to believe in a supernatural judge in order to keep from doing harm to others, then so be it. BELIEVE by god BELIEVE. However this vid is about the seperation of church and state, not your feelings victimization. As for what others in America believe in, that has nothing to do with this either. My comment was specific to your ridiculous assertion that non believers are immoral.
@PathofReason The word Creator was inserted into the the Constitution by a group of predominately Christian men. The Ten Commandments sit outside the Supreme Court. The first Supreme Court referred to America as a "Christian Nation". You liberals should read history, instead of trying to change it.
We cannot read the history of our rise & development as a nation without reckoning with the place the Bible has occupied in shaping the advances of the Republic Where we have been the truest & most consistent in obeying its precepts we have attained the greatest measure of contentment & prosperity
ytdsmom - Do you take all of your knowledge from the opinions of dead politicians? Why don't you try to invent a new piece of wisdom. Y'know, be original.
aajoeyjo: Our conversation was if our country was founded upon Christianity or not. You know you're wrong & now trying to change the subject on why I get my opinions from "dead politicians" who help shape our country. LOL I looked at your profile & you follow the opinion of Madalyn Murray O'Hair who is "dead" & burning in Hell...
ytdsmom-Yes you were talking about the Founding Fathers, and so you quoted some people who lived a LOT later in our nation's history. So what did I say that's so wrong? And of course, you love the fact that someone is burning in hell, which clearly shows the sadistic nature of your religion. Sadism. Look it up.
ytdsmom - That's the same thing as wanting her to burn in hell. Here's why: 1. You wouldn't insist it's true if you didn't want it to be true. Otherwise you'd want to verify it somehow. 2. You're promoting the religion that stands for wanting idealogical opponents to be punished forever. and 3. The very fact that you aren't screaming out for hell to be eliminated says you enjoy it.
ytdsmom Exactly what do you mean follow in her footsteps? I'm an Atheist activist already, and a Life Member of American Atheists. You still haven't denied enjoying your opponents burning in hell, so is that what you want me to avoid? You could just not bring up hell, and that would work...
ytdsmom Then why did you make that crack about Madalyn burning in hell? If you don't want that, but believe it's happening, then why do you believe it? Why don't you try to disprove it, if you don't want it to be true? Religious people don't care to do that, I find...It's very revealing.
ytdsmom - How about NO. Christians cannot re-write American history without being obvious about it. Why don't you just learn about the diversity that exists in America NOW? I think that's a much more relevant direction.
aajoeyjo: No one is attempting to re-write history....it's that history proves you wrong. I do embrace diversity but that doesn't mean our country has to ditch it's Christian foundation & values. Watch 'Rediscovering God in America' which contains FACTS.
ytdsmom I'm not going to watch your propaganda, I've already had to - for years. It's time that religious people finally take some time to learn about us Atheists. America is culturally and religiously diverse, which contradicts that it has some "Christian foundation." You should remember the ORIGINAL Americans, and how they're very scarce now because of Manifest Destiny.
It is so cute when you Christers claim this country being built on Christian values and morals, was a good thing. Let's look at them values and morals; slavery, racism, limited to no rights for women, fear of Native Americans to the point of mass slaughter, burning witches, etc.. "Without God, there is a coarsening of the society. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under".
Yes, that sounds like a good idea, lets go to newt gingrich for my historical information. Get real. America was founded on the ideas of the enlightenment. Many americans were fleeing religious persecution - which is why our country was NOT based on christianity. If it were, you would think that at least half of the 10 commandments would be law - they aren't.
Try reading a history book real scholarship - not some washed up fiction writing x-house speaker who hasn't dealt with history since the 70s. Better yet, how about get it from the horses mouth, and read our founding fathers. The bible isn't inerrant and the prophecies always vague - and most of them aren't found until after the "prophecy" is fulfilled - which means they aren't prophecies, but interesting coincidences, found by people looking for them.
Someone could look at any book of fiction and draw prophecy from it (like that silly bible code bs). Noah is a particularly dumb thing to believe in - first - there is no proof at all that points to this being noahs ark. Secondly the story was told way before Christianity or Judaism's existed. The story of gilgamesh in the Sumerian religion is identical - and if you believe "noah" to be true, you also must believe in Enki and Enlil, and the other gods of Sumerian mythology.
I've been hearing that nonsense about it being a Christian Nation. Just tonight I saw the brillant primate william f. buckley jr. state that shit as fact on Charlie Rose. wtf!
This is no more a Christian Nation than it is a Mormon nation! This is a nation founded on the basically new idea of FREEDOM! and Freedom will proved to be more a powerful idea than all the religions ever concieved of!
You have taken separation of church and state too far. You have skewed it to suit your own agendas. You have forced the majority to remove the 10 Commandments from our courthouses because a minuscule few of you feel threatened by the law. Yeah, too bad for the Ten Commandments- if it weren't for the first one, someone would have already legally wiped you out!
There's a good show of religious understanding, and by the way, why should the 10 commandments be added to any courthouse when they were never allowed there in the first place?
Where, in The Constitution, does it say that the basic foundation of our legal system cannot be posted in public buildings? Why can't people accept at least 9 of the 10? The Ten Commandments are quite simply a good civilized, moral foundation for society. Although I will give everyone the benefit of saying no to "worship no God before me."
It might have something to do with the fact that the bible didn't come up with the 10 commandments, ideas such as thou shall not kill or steal were around thousands of years before they were written in the bible and dare I say already fundamental human instincts. What I don't like about religion trying to weasel it's way into government is it's hatred and bigotry toward other religions and beliefs/lifestyles.
The constitution of the U.S. absolutely protects people's the rights to break most of the "ten commandments". I don't have to "keep holy the sabbath day". I can have any number of gods. I can covet anything or anyone. I only have to "honor" my parents if they stay within the bounds of the law (i.e. refrain from abusing me). The commandments that do happen to coincide with U.S. law are simply the very basic necessities of any "free" society of laws.
You guys have guts to do this in Texas

What we need to focus on is not seperation of church and state. What we need more than anything else right now is the seperation of private corporations and the government. This unholy union has taken the lives of millions upon millions of people just within the last couple of decades. Time for people to wake up and not be distracted by these types of overplayed non issues like 'church and state'. That's not the problem we're faced with in 2008

It is so cute when you Christers claim this country being built on Christian values and morals, was a good thing. As for our founding documents, there is no reference to Jesus, Christ, Savior, Redeemer, Emmanuel, Holy Spirit, El Shaddi, or any other biblical reference to the biblical gods and ghosts. Funny how you say 'ignorant old person'. It states JUST WHAT YOU SAY IN THE BIBLE. Most had faith in times past...it's the generations when the end is nearing who will deny.
If you're intellectual as you say you are, you would be wise & study.
ytdsmom 3 years ago

Watch 'Rediscovering God in America'.
ytdsmom 4 years ago
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. What don't you underdtand about that?
Swa6543 4 years ago
Swa6543: 'An establishment of religion'...you need to read all of it. "Establishment" was a church...they didn't feel it would be fair for tax dollars to be spent on a particular DENOMINATION...i.e. Catholic / Baptist. All of this is obviously well documented and is FACT.
ytdsmom 4 years ago
ytdsmom - The national motto was changed to "In God We Trust" during the 1950s. In the Declaration of Independence, "creator" is a generic term that can mean your parents. They left that distinction up to the reader. Obviously state/church separation was important to them as well, since they made the 1st Amendment at all. Take American History.

PathofReason 4 years ago
The word Creator is specified....instead of spending so much time trying to prove that our country was not founded upon Christianity, why don't you actually search for the truth. You don't want to know because it would prove you WRONG.
ytdsmom 4 years ago
ytdsmom - What would it mean for our country to be "founded upon Christianity?" Does that mean we're all Christians? That's not true, so I doubt that's it. Does it mean that only Christians are allowed here? That's also not true. What are you trying to say exactly?
aajoeyjo 4 years ago
aajoeyjo: We do not want the Christian values ripped from the fabric of our society. Also, with reference to your Atheism...why would you not trust a book that is right on with prophecy? Prophecy even today. If it were any other book, ppl would be in awe. Because it's the Bible, ppl are not interested. 100prophecies(dot)org(/)page3(dot)htm
ytdsmom 4 years ago
ytdsmom - No one is trying to rip Christian values away from society. Except unless you think theocracy is a Christian value, which many Christians do. I don't trust any book that mentions prophecy in anything other than a critical way. Prophecies are not impressive to people who actually verify results. Why do you automatically trust the religion you were instructed to?
aajoeyjo 4 years ago
aajoeyjo: I wasn't instructed to believe anything...I sought the truth on my own. Again, the Bible has been proven time & again....with prophecies fulfilled, Noah's Ark found, etc. It's just some ppl want to spend their energy trying to prove the Bible wrong when the answers are at their fingertips. Sounds to me like you may have had some bad experience....if so, I am sorry about that & hope you find peace.
ytdsmom 4 years ago
ytdsmom Someone found some ancient wood that belonged to a boat a long time ago. What's impressive about that? What prophecies are you so impressed by? We don't need to prove the Bible wrong, we just need to read it out loud. It disproves itself, and all of its supernatural claims are the irresponsible parts you have a burden of validating. THAT sounds like a bad experience for any Bible believer.
aajoeyjo 4 years ago
aajoeyjo: Some ancient wood that was the EXACT same measurements described in the Bible. Who gave us the conscience between right & wrong? If there's no right/wrong & heaven/hell, why don't we just do as we please for our own personal gain? How could our bodies have just evolved...from our pupils to fingerprints? By accident? That's HARDER to believe in my opinion.
ytdsmom 4 years ago
ytdsmom They found some wood. Congratulations. That's not impressive. Why do you need someone to "give you" your conscience? Were you not born with any human brain? Evolution doesn't "just" happen, it's obvious. Everything changes, even religions. "Accident" is a bias term. You want religion to be true. You're biased.
aajoeyjo 4 years ago
aajoeyjo: Yes, of course I was born with a brain....but who put the conscience within us? Look around at every minute detail of our bodies & everything else in the world. I don't believe it all just evolved without a designer behind it.
ytdsmom 4 years ago
ytdsmom - Your brain came with a lot of that conscience built in. The rest of your morals came from your upbringing and the life experiences you've had since then. No religion or god is necessary for that to naturally occur. If you want there to be a designer so badly, doesn't it bother you that one hasn't been found? Yet we find fossils, canyons and other proof of a really old universe.
aajoeyjo 4 years ago
ytd, it is people like you who scare me. My message to you is, BELIEVE, PLEASE BELIEVE as long
IaintNoGood 4 years ago 2
as it keeps my family and friends safe from your perverted desires.
IaintNoGood 4 years ago 2
laintNoGood: You are obviously the one with problems; who said I had issues? I just choose to believe in a higher power unlike you. That makes me scary? Yes, that sounds like a good idea, lets go to newt gingrich for my historical information. Get real. America was founded on the ideas of the enlightenment. Many americans were fleeing religious persecution - which is why our country was NOT based on christianity. If it were, you would think that at least half of the 10 commandments would be law - they aren't.
driubi 4 years ago
Try reading a history book real scholarship - not some washed up fiction writing x-house speaker who hasn't dealt with history since the 70s. Better yet, how about get it from the horses mouth, and read our founding fathers. The bible isn't inerrant and the prophecies always vague - and most of them aren't found until after the "prophecy" is fulfilled - which means they aren't prophecies, but interesting coincidences, found by people looking for them.
driubi 4 years ago
Someone could look at any book of fiction and draw prophecy from it (like that silly bible code bs). Noah is a particularly dumb thing to believe in - first - there is no proof at all that points to this being noahs ark. Secondly the story was told way before Christianity or Judaism's existed. The story of gilgamesh in the Sumerian religion is identical - and if you believe "noah" to be true, you also must believe in Enki and Enlil, and the other gods of Sumerian mythology.

There's a good show of religious understanding, and by the way, why should the 10 commandments be added to any courthouse when they were never allowed there in the first place?
Di66en6ion 4 years ago 2
Where, in The Constitution, does it say that the basic foundation of our legal system cannot be posted in public buildings? Why can't people accept at least 9 of the 10? The Ten Commandments are quite simply a good civilized, moral foundation for society. Although I will give everyone the benefit of saying no to "worship no God before me."
webmoocher 4 years ago
It might have something to do with the fact that the bible didn't come up with the 10 commandments, ideas such as thou shall not kill or steal were around thousands of years before they were written in the bible and dare I say already fundamental human instincts. What I don't like about religion trying to weasel it's way into government is it's hatred and bigotry toward other religions and beliefs/lifestyles.
Di66en6ion 4 years ago 2
The constitution of the U.S. absolutely protects people's the rights to break most of the "ten commandments". I don't have to "keep holy the sabbath day". I can have any number of gods. I can covet anything or anyone. I only have to "honor" my parents if they stay within the bounds of the law (i.e. refrain from abusing me). The commandments that do happen to coincide with U.S. law are simply the very basic necessities of any "free" society of laws.
