Pondo is big enough in Japan, he always manages to book good Japanese DM wrestlers. In 2006, Kasai, 2007, Numazawa, 2008, Ito, and this year, Yuko Miyamoto, one half of the greatest DM tag team ever, won it.

I have a buddy(central PA) that does a lot of indy and small stuff shows. He wrestled some of these guys, and in some of the smaller venues. Some do it because they are trying to move on to higher events(TNA, WWE, etc) but most do it for the rush of the moment and the love of the sport.

I always wondered about some of these matches, where there is panes of glass and all sorts of lighttubes. Panes of glass, to my understanding, are fucking expensive.

Hell, fishhooks ain`t cheap neither.

I mean, 4 panes of glass has gotta cost $100, minimum.

Lighttubes gotta be at least a buck a pop, probably more.

And Ito came from Japan, TJ from Germany, so they couldn`t have been that cheap.

These promotions rely heavily on DVD sales, and that's how they can afford it. It's questionable whether the promotions make any money though.

I had read that IWA-MS almost went tits up. Only strong DVD sales saved them. From the looks of most Mid South crowds, I can see why.

CZW is a different story. They sell out New Alhambra once a month. Zandig has done well selling his brand, and they likely make money on the show without DVDs, which are gravy for the company.
