  • It boggles my mind that shows like "True Blood" are being picked up for a fifth season, but this brilliant show only lasted three seasons.

  • First Fox cancels Firefly, then HBO cancel Deadwood yet crap like Jersey Shore goes on and on... I despair for the human race sometimes -_-

  • No matter how many times I watch this show it just keeps getting better. Quite honestly, my favorite television show of all time. I love every second of this program and it's such a joy to own the complete series. I never grow tired of it and enjoy it every time.

  • HBO should be ashamed of themselves for canceling this show.

  • HBO COCKSUCKAS should be fed to mister wu's pigs

  • Now I just want to go play Poker with my back to the WALL.

  • Bethalyn Staples is side boob girl :P

  • maybe the best series I've watched besides The Wire and Game Of Thrones.

  • Free Gratis

  • WTF is this, where is my free Portal Kotaku?

  • COCKSUCKER!

  • Man John Hawkes in this!!! Also, this opening credits is making me want to buy all the seasons and marathon it...

    Maybe I'll do that.

  • Buncha hoopleheads all of ya's. Those who doubt me suck cock by choice.

  • 1876 Deadwood. The (misnamed) Shenanigan bros hit town:Taciturn Tom,'Tame' will Hiccough,Billy the unquiet kid and Pacifist Steve."They jis came in one en' and wen'out d'other.Aint nutin happened anyhow'' said Loquacious Luke who was later gunned down by Wyatt Earpiece over a woman,Chesty O'Breasts.True story.Ok it's not.

  • The rumor "Deadwood" may return is awesome. There should be no conflict with Olyphant on "Justified". Neither of the shows film (or filmed) for 12 months straight. It shouldn't be impossible to work a schedule...if this pipe dream ever comes around. I have a sneaking suspicion that "Deadwood's" popularity has exponentially increased with its discovery on DVD, blu ray, and its run on Directv. HBO would be a fool to snub the opportunity...but they've been fools before. ;-)

  • Great story lines, great acting, (Ian Mcshane), great everything!

  • was a great cast!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kinda looks like Justified. :p And there's Timothy olphant too. I wonder why he took the justified role, hesn't he worried to be typecasted from now on?

  • That is the best nezs Ive heard all day!

  • The way the song and intro cuts from the gold to the Deadwood title always sent shivers down my spine.

  • Get a fucking haircut. Looks like your mother fucked a monkey.

  • Borrowing the series from a friend, who borrowed it from his friend and I have to therefore watch the entire series quickly, in order to pull off the secret borrowing of this series. What a script! Looking forward to the second viewing being in HD, as I watched it in 480i. I love this intro song as well, music had a beautiful simplicity as period music did. Well done to all involved, very well done!

  • Check out the tits on the bird getting in the bath. Even from behind they look fucking massive.

  • @deanh1978 best sideboob on tv

  • i love the show, too bad timothy olyphant is an awful actor

  • @nailon323 i think hes a great actor.

  • @palkomike23 Ive been thinking about buying a season of this show. :)

  • @bigJ09z Do it!!!!

  • @tinaturntable I already bought season 1 :) Ian Mcshane said it may return so im buying the season's :)

  • HOOOOLD ON, LARRY KING SAYS!!

  • Its a great show tho i get annoyed by how they have some pretty interesting characters show up for an episode or two just to get killed off once you get interested in what they are all about.

  • We have enjoyed this series much more than we ever expected. We are taking a break over the holidays between Seasons 2 and 3 (Netflix and local library). It does get intense - and we want to savor it as long as possible. We have also enjoyed the extra features. Bravo to everyone involved in this marvelous work. It is of the highest quality and I think it will be beloved for a long time to come. What a wonderful legacy!

  • I've only watched the first 5 episodes and already I'm disappointed that it is not/will not be a complete series. Fantastic writing and acting, not to mention how intriguing the story is. I've read that the actor's contracts were not renewed because HBO was skeptical about the cost in the economic (with the setting, props, etc the average was about $4.5 million per episode), but it's still so disappointing that such a phenomenal work of art could not be fully realized. RIP Deadwood :(

  • i just LOVE at after 1:02 EVERYTHING just changes, the moment gives me the vibes.

  • Best television I have ever seen. A true masterpiece. Thankfully the Canadian history channel did not censor a single word. Bitterly disappointed at ending.

  • My favorite show from HBO!!

  • what a horse!

  • I agree; one of the best. We are watching it with NetFlix and getting the perk of not waiting months between seasons. I'd watch the whole three seasons in three days, but my wife can't take the immersion.

  • What style would you consider this song?

  • @p0zz0 hmmm...it kinda sounds like those cocksuckers ripped off Michael Hurley's Hog of the Forsaken

  • Well alright....

  • 0:50 more of that :-P

  • 5 c*cksuckers missed the like button

  • I think the cancellation of deadwood goes down as the saddest moment in history, just ahead of the holocaust and Rwandan genocide :(

  • Does anyone know who the women getting into the bath in this is?

  • @troysidneyarcher7 Probably your great grandmother who made her living as a whore.

  • Great opening piece

  • What would you like?

Ill have a kentucky bourbon whiskey.

Get Mr. Wilcot a whiskey...and tell him its from kentucky.

  • How about ending the series with a Deadwood movie at least.

  • Best opening credits ever

  • Thanks for posting. Reminds me how much I looked forward to each episode. Greatest series ever.

  • fuckin consumerism man! blew my mind when i saw this bro! Fuckin coco brown! WTF is that!? Derek do j00 know twat it is cousin?

  • America's Shakespeare tragedy

  • Gold, women, whiskey and a sharp knife.

    This show was a giant.

  • I know I am not the only one who does some passionate and dramatic air fiddle/violin to this EVERY SINGLE TIME.

  • awesome series

  • Television doesn't get any better than this. An intricate and compassionate stake on the claim of humanity. It's unbelievable that it is not on anymore, HBO just seems to love going against the wishes of their viewers. Or maybe like a large portion of the world today they are obsessed with crap.

  • HBO stated that Deadwood was "too expensive to maintain". Which certainly makes sense if you observe the production value from, say season 1 and season 2. I don't think the experience differed all that much, but you'll notice WAAAY more extras in the background, more animals, more scenery, etc. Just watch any episode from season 1 and any from 2 and you'll know what I'm talking about.

  • @david111197 what the hell are you talking about? HBO is one of the few networks with integrity. If they could have kept Deadwood around they would.

  • @gilsaly hbo CHOSE to cancel this in favour of John From Cincinnati, which they cancelled after one season. HBO has been a joke for the better part of the decade, and I fully expect them to not renew Game of Thrones after 2 or 3 seasons, cause that's exactly how they roll.

  • i fucking love this song.

i get down to it all the time.

  • Along with Carnivale, I wish Deadwood had been renewed for more seasons. I didn't think I'd like the show, but I got into it after watching the first episode. What a great intro. Perfect song and footage.

  • ROME was quite fast-paced and I enjoyed it.

Deadwood isn't that fast-spaced, because Deadwood does not revolve around action, it revolves around its setting, and atmosphere.

  • Deadwood isn't for those seeking action entertainment.

I think it's mostly about illustrating what the times were like then. That's why there's always a tense feeling of restrained violence—when it's used, its effect is to highlight a point or theme in the story.

Deadwood is about lawlessness and corruption, the interactions between so-called "civilized" people in a superficially civilized time and place, and the choices they make to live and stay alive.

  • it gets better into the second season. watch it and see if your still dissapointed

  • Great tv-series, Great intro, Great actors. Thanks HBO!

  • Sounds like epic poker music

  • Awesome fuckin intro !!! :D

    0:46 is hot ;)

  • The show was great but the town itself is better. When i lived in Deadwood and spearfish, there were so many things to do there.

  • was in deadwood when i was 12, visiting was unusual to me. never seen a Saloon...heard of it from my parents, but until i saw it and then many years later this series came out...i remembered! this town, Deadwood, is the impetimy of the true WEST! next to TOMBSTONE...

  • How ironic, now, i live some what close to tombstone.

  • Love it. Creepy ass tune.

  • jodidos americanos

  • I guess explosions and bodies flailig about would be more to your liking, eh?

  • Why can't I read what this person said? I have all "Read All Comments" selected by default.

  • When a person receives 6+ negative comments via the thumbs down symbol, the message becomes null and becomes unable to read. It's some sort of Youtube policy.

  • Pfffffffffffft Prison Break and 24 are garbage boring as hell cant stand to watch them at all. Deadwood kills both those shows in a fucking heartbeat.

  • i still don't understand why deadwood was cancelled

  • Simply becouse the poeple in charge are morons.

  • Because even though it was making money, it didn't have a big enough return on investment for HBO to continue funding it. Unlike regular channels which have advertising up the wazoo, HBO has to invest money in shows and then wait and hope it pays out, just like movies, where regular channels can take advertising money to fund new shows. Deadwood cost 5 million an episode to film, so HBO decided to do two new shows instead of the final season of deadwood. Stupid HBO.

  • best show ever HBO had to offer a dramatic realization of post 1860's Unites States

  • just started season 1 on dvd and am now hooked.

  • LOL

  • 9/10

  • For credits or my comment?

  • just joking

  • sure considering 24 isnt from hbo you stupid cocksucker

  • Neither is Prison Break, so what my mistake. Still liked both shows much more than Deadwood, which was interesting only in the beggining then got boring and relying too much on cursing. The thing is that 24 is still running (and will continue next year) and Prison Break is coming back in April while this show is dead.

  • G.W.Bush was elected, TWICE, as the president of the USA. Now that should tell you something: Just because something is popular, doesn't make it GOOD.

That aside; I prefer Prison Break and 24 over Deadwood.

  • I agree with your GW Bush comment, but not about Prison Break.

  • Sure there is a lot of cursing in the show, but it's not as if it lacks substance. Deadwood is essentially a large character study, designed to exemplify the fact that none of it's characters are truly good or truly evil, and to get you to compare that to real life. Prison Break and 24 (both good shows) are action based and rely on relatively little in depth analysis from the user, a genre which is inherently more popular. Comparing them based solely on popularity seems a bit unfair.

  • this show was great.. HBO is fucking COCKSUCKER.. i hate hbo since they canceled carnivalé and also they canceled deadwood.. hbo is all cunts and stupids..

Duyuyormusun hbo sözüm sana, anani skim....

  • i agree hbo sucks now all the good shows are gone , deadwood, sopranos, carnivale, curb your enthusiasm all the good stuff is gone and hs been replaced by fagget shit

  • gorgeous!

  • i just started watching this on DVD and i LOVE it and the opening credits especially!

  • beatiful horse

    i love deadwood

  • Fucking amazing tune!!

  • it was like Shakespeare, rated R

  • this is the shit and love the series, cant wait too finally get them all on dvd.

  • Wow! Deadwood is the best fucking show I ever saw. Al will shoot all the Lost guys, spetially the fat one.

  • Theme From Deadwood by David Schwartz ^^

  • I miss this show SOOOO much I wish it had run for longer then 3 season. V_V

  • The creator decided to end the show.:)

  • not true, he wanted to do more I beleve but hbo canned it

  • One more season was planned, 4 seasons for the four years between the time the show starts in real life and the time Deadwood burned down for good, but after the third season HBO decided that the return on investment was not big enough to justify funding a fourth season at 5 million an episode, so instead they funded two separate new shows for the same price it would cost to do just Deadwood, though I forget which ones...

  • never should of fuckin took this off the air and the the other shiity shows on

  • I just ordered season one of Deadwood...but the best HBO/Showtime show of all time is The Wire...hands down. Only thing close is the Sopranos

  • The Wire > sopranos > deadwood > everything else ever, drama wise... all on HBO, that channel is amazing

  • I'd say more like Deadwood > The Wire > Sopranos > Six Feet Under > Band of Brothers > Rome > every other drama ever. But yeah, HBO rocks.

  • Cocksuckers! (",)

  • Deadwood -the greatest show in tv history

  • How can they plow money in to series like Lost, but Deadwood, it's too good to even think about. TWO seasons and then... It's dead. Deadwood. Drunken like shiet here...

  • It's because HBO gets its money from subscriptions and not commercials, they just couldn't afford it.

  • They could too afford it. They decided the return on investment wasn't high enough, not that it was non existent. Stupid HBO. To be fair though, it costs 5 million an episode to make Deadwood, and by spending the same amount of money on two new shows, they were able to double their profits.

  • Deadwood lasted 3 seasons. I have all three on DVD. You should go watch the last one.

  • At the end of the series finale, they should play "Ghetto Cowboy" by Bone Thugs n Harmony. It would be perfect.

  • I love the part of the song when the whiskey starts pouring. So powerful.

  • Damn I miss this show...you really forgot you were watching a show...it was so good...

  • HBO kills off its good shows or they have a last episode that sucks

  • Agreed, now I'm a Dexter (showtime) convert.

  • I've seen Dexter, I heard that is being cancelled just like the wire

  • Damn, I hope your wrong about that. I'm so looking forward to a third season.

  • I read it in some entertainment rag, I hope its wrong, Dexter is an interesting show, other than the L word showtime doesnt have much

  • Showtime has not only Dexter and The L-Word, but great shows like Brotherhood, Californication, Weeds and The Tudors!

  • I watch all of those shows except the tudors, I thought it debuts this sunday?

  • Showtime has not only Dexter and The L-Word, but great shows like Brotherhood, Californication, Weeds and The Tudors!

  • sorry for this.

  • The Wire wasn't canceled. The author of the show decided he didn't know enough about another facet of the Baltimore underworld (Season 1 is dealers, 2 is dockworkers, 3 is the city government, 4 is the schools, and 5 is the media) to make another season, and he didn't want to redo anything he had already done. Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome, and The Sopranos, were canceled. (Though The sopranos were told after season 5 to write a final season.)

  • Rome/The Sopranos weren't cancelled. Into their final seasons of filming they knew that was it.

  • Incorrect. Into their final seasons of filming they were told that was it, and that they should make this the last season. The teams behind both expressed a wish to continue, but HBO said they would only give them one more season. The Wire on the other hand, was offered a contract for several more seasons, and it's author (who was also head of the project) turned them down.

  • I miss carnivale. (sighs)

  • Again, a shining example of HBO's ability to make shows which are the best on television, and then an inch before the finish line, turn them into the best shows, off television.

  • heeheehee yeah, kind of frustrating at times. makes me wonder how long true blood will last. I love true blood but, just kind of wonder if it will be allowed to end.

  • Six Feet Under's last episode doesn't suck =) It's PERFECT.

  • can somebody tell me who played the music on this opening credits

  • David Schwartz

  • thank u bro.

  • This is not the frist time a show, agreat show at that, has been canceled with no closure to the series. Thank you HBO. Not only will I not be able to continue watching one of my favorite shows, but I will not watch any of your new ones either for fear of the same thing happening again. Great marketing strategy there boys.

  • It's all about the amount of viewers... I agree that Deadwood was a great show but a channel can't keep on losing money. I hope that those two Deadwood-films are being made some day.

  • In the opening credits, the side shot of the breast is my favorite. It defies gravity man!!!

  • what a show.such a pity its gone, carnivale also, why bother if ur not gonna finish...

  • Why did they cancel the show? It was excellent. The swearing was a bit extreme, but not too much for the time and conditions that we see in this town. Btw, does George Hearst, William Randolph's father, remind you of anybody living today or since?

  • They cancelled it because it cost too much money. You see, the same time Deadwood Season 4 was being put into motion, HBO had already committed to Season 2 of Rome, which cost billions to make. They created huge sets for the show, and used hundreds of extras in full armor. Apparently that's how Deadwood got cancelled. HBO said Milch could do 6 episodes or two 2-hour movies to end the series, but they released all actors from contracts making it impossible to do either.

  • My analysis on what the opening credits mean. The wild stallion is a symbolic spirit, not an actual being, otherwise they would be trying to capture it. It races through the town as it functions. No matter how humankind evolves as a civilization, a natural wild spirit will always survive and persist. This can be vibrantly observed in the history of late 19th Century Deadwood, SD, and can be see after and before in other societies.

  • the series was amazing. violence, lust, friendship, good vs evil, poetry...raw mankind...and full of surprises. and the music with the opening credits is wonderful stuff, as well as the visuals. don't know what's with hbo...they get great shows like this and carnevale and then cancel them. if you're not willing to shell out the money to produce these things, hbo, then don't effing start!

  • Deadwood = Cooooooollllllll

    Everwood = Suuuuxxxxxx

  • And Anna Gunn's name is there as well so you know it's from the 2nd season. And I have to agree with Spiker in that every HBO show always has terrific intros.

  • I agree as well. I love Deadwood, Oz, Big Love, Curb, and a lot of other shows on HBO. HBO is the king of original series'!

  • I don't know but I'm sure your gonna tell us.

  • I love you.

  • Also, I can tell this is from atleast the second season. Anyone else know why? Just a little Deadwood quiz question.

  • is it because carradine is not in credits

  • Best show ever made. It's coming back on HBO this Sat. Set your DVR's everyone! No shit!

  • Every [good] HBO show has an amazing intro.

  • There are bad HBO shows?

  • i really dont know about any.....HBO rules absolutely

  • John from cincinnati was bad (IMO). I was never a fan of Sex and the City. I can only think of 2. I can think of a whole lot more for every other network.

  • When I got the whole first two series on DVD in Beijing for 50p, I watched about 8 episodes back to back in one day. This is an awesome show, and this theme tune is pretty brilliant. And catchy.

  • This and Carnivale are my two favorite intros to any show. Ever.

  • Oz had a good opening to it's show as well.

  • ya its a great show, i love the song intro too

  • I love this show, I wish I could've seen more than just 3 or 4 episodes.

  • this intro gets me so pumped up for the show

  • the music is pretty good.

  • This is my favorite beginning to any show, bottom line.

  • HBO seems to have a way with making GREAT show intros. The Sopranos, Entourage and this :P

  • Rome is the second best next to this.

  • Carnivale is, hands down, the best ever.
