  • Amazingly almost the only thing I ever knew about American Railroads was that there were these classic locomotives called GG1's.

    The other thing was that there were loco's called Big Boys!

  • why does the narator keep saying "engineman" damit, hes an engineer....

  • Great video

  • at 2:32 the guy standing next to the guy with the ratchet whispers "righty tighty, lefty loosey"

  • great video i realy injoyed it iv always whated a gg1 train set and i did just a few weeks ago im almost done restoreing it its a lionel o gauge set from 1950 set number #2159w its been alittle bit of work and finding parts but it going to be well worth :-}

  • The "double-gee" was the first locomotive I could name. Lucky enough to see as many as I wanted to back in those days. All locomotives should be art deco like a double-gee. Born less than 2 miles from the bridge at 3:28, and our family dentist's practice overlooked that bridge on the HdG side.

  • In the beginning, that's the original Pennsylvania Station in New York. It was largest & most magnificent train station in the US, but it was torn down completely in 1963-1966.

  • Sounds like the actor Robert Taylor narrating.

  • If only we could get back to those days. Just think how much better off we would be now.

  • @Lvfd416 You said it. We have slipped so much.

  • this was filmed in 1954

  • PRR GG1 Project: Looking to interview and record conversations with GG1 mechanics, electricians, maintenance personnel, engineers and historians for an upcoming documentary project.

  • GREAT VIDEO. I think GG1s were some of the most beautiful machines ever built.

  • wow, i have this vid, do you happen to have the golden age of steam too?

  • Clerestory heavyweights at 1:24 !

  • Inspiring! Lets be grateful that our recently elected president (and VP, who rides Amtrak each day) understand the importance of railroads to the future of this great nation.

  • Word.

    Amazing video, thanks again for posting!
