yeah a little awkward, would have been better if the girl had a puppy with her and he sang it to the puppy or a kitten or SOMETHING while she watched .... classic, but Allan is a little out of his element here and reaching .... My Funny Valentine it ain't
Egad you weirdos. Get your mind out of the gutter. This was the late 50's when artists serenading little children was common and not at all creepy. All variety show hosts of the time had similar pieces, including the then expected chaste kiss on the lips. Don't judge the past by today's warped standards please.
You know, I can't even decide which Allan Sherman song is my favorite. "Go to Sleep, Paul Revere" mesmerized me as a kid and I learned every word. "Sarah Jackman" is classic, as is "Harvey and Sheila," but the one I played over a thousand times was "Here's to the Crabgrass." I'd love to write a screenplay about his life, using as many of his songs as possible. I want Jason Alexander [George Costanza] to play Allan. Any ideas on a title (...besides "The Allan Sherman Story?")
Singing this intimately to a little child and ending the song with a kiss on the lips with get ol' Allan arrested quick as lightening today. Sweet song though. The poor girl looked rather traumatized by the creepy man.
That's Victoria Paige Meyerink with Allan. She appeared regularly on "The Danny Kaye Show" in 1963 and went on to do a few film/TV roles before becoming a producer as well. (She was born on 27 December 1960, so I'd guess this show aired around 1964-65.)

The description of this video is inaccurate.

I think the little girl has amazing camera presence. I bet she grew up to be an actress.

Oddball describes this scene. Not a very telegenic performance. How many times did he think he had to say "Isn't she pretty?" before she might smile?

just posted that I saw Feinstein doing Alan Sherman. It was called
The End of a Symphony and it is on
Youtube with Sherman doing it.

i have 3 of Sherman's albums, but never heard Here to the Crabgrass or Go to sleep Paul Revere. Hope someone posts those to youtube. I saw Michael
Feinstein do a semiserious Alan Sherman Symphony with the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra.

Love Allan. Gorgeous song, cute kid - astonishingly awkward moment at the end. Wonder if she has flashbacks?

I don't think I would use the word 'OddBall' to describe that kiss on the lips of a little girl!

Do the show, but have Wayne Knight do the honors, not Alexander.

you know view it as it was done. Done in a innocent time when you didn't have to worry about such things. Allan Sherman was a funny guy

Yah, I remember Danny doing bits with her and they worked very well. Allan was a tremendous talent but they should have rehearsed this first.

What an incredibly talented and clever man Allan Sherman was...the world lost him way too soon.

He lived from November 30, 1924 to November 20, 1973. I think he was a true genius.
