That old man with the hat looks very wise! Snake soup wouldn't be my cup of tea... but I wonder how common it is in China? I know that in Beijing, one may find street vendors selling foods (like fried scorpions) that are considered bizarre, if you downright disgusting, to most westerners.
Here in Hong Kong, people can have snake soup and snake feast in some Cantonese restaurants like the famous Ser Wong Fun Restaurant in Central. It's a common belief among the older generations that snake wine, soup and dishes are good for health. While the younger generations may not find snake dishes bizarre, they are not as fond of them as their parents/grandparents are.
Do they speak madarin or cantonese in this old movie?

金唐酒家在新填街/上海街(住置不大確認), 我舅父40年代到80年代都有在這裡品茗, 晚飯的習慣.
一列戰前廣州式舊樓. 那裡的女侍應跟客人都是幾十年的老朋友, 我依稀記得我少年時(距今30年左右)和我的舅父(當年70歲了)差不多是最後到金唐品茗的一次.
一個最少60多歲肥胖而又身穿旗袍的女侍應走過來跟我舅父打招呼, 閒話家常, 說些街談巷議的八卦事宜.
一派的舒閒安逸, 現今人物俱非. 真是令人總有奈何之感.

I ate snake soup once when I was in Hong Kong. Not bad but I would not pay for it, too expensive. It tastes a bit like chicken.
