The thing the shuttle is on is called a Crawler and i saw it on Discovery Channel on a show called Dirty Jobs with mike rowwe and he had to Oil it and they let him drive it,But anyway everytime its used it must be oiled.
The path is made of very smooth river rocks from tenn. to handle the amount of weight (6 million lbs) and pressure from the crawler. You are right about spraying the path for dust!! You should watch the dirty jobs episode of how they lubricate the crawlers huge track shoes.
what i was amazed about was that it was at the pad before Discovery landed!Always cool camera angles of the pad.Dec 6th lets all cross our fingers eh!
It's a pity they won't be using the shuttle anymore after 2010, those things are awesome

this is a exclusive world premiere preview of what is to be released at xmas, to show the world what is above our earth if we just take a look.
a live event will be on the internet xmas week to show these craft live.
this is just a fraction of film there is still 80% more to see.

To damp down the dust ? That sounds plausible. I hadn't thought of that. I wondered if it was a measure to protect the roadway. Cheers, Brett8joel.
