  • Beautiful

  • Beautiful music but when i watch the pictures I say : thank you very very much photoshop!

  • I have finally remembered where I first heard this: in the film 'Wit'. God this piece is so beautiful.

  • @ginnyisdacoolest I know. I finally discovered the song on Youtube. In the film the combination of Margaret Edson's wonderful prose and this piece is simply perfection. Just reading the last lines of the play make me cry, and just listening to this alone makes me cry. But together, with Emma Thompson and Eileen Atkins, it is... beyond perfection!

  • @TheLitLass What film? can i view it on netflix?

  • @MrsPSALMS8510 I believe she is referring to the film "Wit" based on a play by Margaret Edson and starring Emma Thompson. It's incredible, see it if you can.

  • This music touches my soul!

  • I was walking all alone on the streets, in the middle of the night yesterday. It was as if this song coloured the moment. I suddenly noticed everything that i have always taken for granted. The leaves on the tree, the way the wind flows through them, the beautiful sound of church bells ringing.. it was another kind of happiness, that i had never experienced before. A feeling of clarity and peace within.

  • @Nonna16 You are blessed!!!

  • Hauntingly beautiful...

  • add "repeat" to the url after youtube and before ".com" Never be sad again.

  • such a lovely song... made me cry

    heard it in school for writing club today as a prompt;

wrote such a sad depressing story, inspired by this song

    so beautiful :)

  • I love this piece.Viva Estonia!!!!

  • Very beautiful. I recently heard this on BBC Radio 4 (quality station!) and fell in love with it. I am going to use it during snoozie time for my baby girl.

  • @Sandfluffymama aww thts a good idea :) such a beautiful calming song :)

  • A simple, sad, and yet beautiful piece! I heard this for the first time on my local All Classical Radio Station a few months ago and fell in love with it.

  • haunting but calming at the same time!!listened to this for the 1st time on radio4,loveky to hear again.

  • too long didnt listen

  • @Domthedemon You cheated yourself out of a musical experience! I just listened to a 6min version. It seemed to end much too quickly.

  • the place at 1:46 looked like a haunted house. its creepy.

  • @SuperGalbatrox i like tht pic

  • This is a really lovely piece of music, simply magical...

  • Ahora puedo morir en paz.

  • I remember very well the first time I heard this. About eight years ago I was going through a pretty crap period in my life and I had to go into work for a day or two over the Christmas holidays to repair something. I was the only person in the whole factory, it was so still and quiet and a bit cold, so different from the normal day to day hustle and bustle. I was sitting at my desk and this came on the radio and tears just started to roll down my face. It's so hauntingly beautiful.

  • Just as I was thinking, wondering, dreaming, the words 'the silence of being' crept into my mind. I looked it up, and it's a title of a collection of his pieces. Seems we both hit something there...

  • nice

  • Whenever I listen to this piece it reminds me of the fragility and ultimate beauty of human life amongst the physical universe. Our entire lives, and the complex connections that it brings are merely whispers across the deep waters of the foundations of the world.

The silence at the end to me sounds like a quiet passing away of a life. I often just listen to the silence once the piece is finished, as, to me, it's as important as the notes that disrupt it.

  • This really is music for the soul - just beautiful

  • Only just ehard this on Radio 4 and went searching. I love the way you had added such beautiful pictures and quotes. Thank you -great job.

  • @neonpuss1 Closet Radio 4 listener eh? I did too.

  • @neonpuss1 Me too. I'm 14 and I was listening to my iPod couple of months ago...but then it ran out of charge. So while it was charging I had to make do with Radio 4, which my mum was listening to in the other room. Then this piece of music came on and I was utterly enchanted. Even when my iPod was charged again, I didn't listen to it for a long time, because I was playing this beautiful song over and over in my head...

  • @skykun100 I'm 16, the exact same thing happened to me! Driving home in the car, my mum is a listener of Radio 4 and tuned in to what I think was a whole programme on this piece? It has stuck with me since, I'm so glad I haven't forgotten it :)

  • the most beautiful and moving piece i've ever heard; the notes are so simple but it has so many levels and complexities that i can't even begin to count them.

  • This wonderful piece of music has touched me in a way I never thought was possible. To find a partner who loved and appreciated it in a similar manner who be to find the perfect soul mate Too late for me I fear but maybe just the start for others.

  • @tikoling100 while there is breath there is hope..i have a new husband who was moved to the soul as I was by this piece. we are 51 and 65 perspectively

  • love this video, the music and dhe images... thank you for postin it...

  • thank you meg ,my friend my lover my soul mate . never new beautiful music such as this piece existed until last night .

  • Radio 4's "Soul Music" brought me back here.

  • @zionravescene Snap! Me too

  • @zionravescene

wasn't the programe just amazing; a lament of loss, really tugged ' one's heart strings. peace and kindness :))

  • - - - sheer beauty - - -

  • i have sex with corpses to this

  • @animegalc4

    get the fuck off 4chin.

  • This is Part 2 for all that want this version. I believe that part 2 is the best version, the bass and echo are really relaxing compared to the high pitched squealing of Part 3.

But don't get me wrong, all the parts are Fantastic.

  • nice song :)

  • This is like an ice knife in a burning hearth

  • Sometimes I just need to listen to music like this. After all the horrible things that have happened in the last week, this makes me feel a little better.

  • Oh Dean :(

  • geweldige rust gevend muziek , heerlijk om naar te luisteren......... more more

  • i seriously can't explain how much this helps me now

  • This piece could go on forever. But to give the music life, it must also have death.

  • I cry every time....

  • isn't this just perfection...........I love Scotland it made meand Avro heard its heart

  • perfect

  • i praise god in christ for the beauty here, and for his beauty, as all of it emminates from him

  • 9:09 of pure heaven..

  • It may not seem so, but the cello's lines are under a tight minimalistic sequence, based on mirrors... starting from A, it must play one note above, then one note below; then two notes above, then two bellow... an so on... hence spiegel im spiegel.

  • This sound of true art pacifies every single cell of my body, every single piece of my soul, every single time I listen to it. It just creates this unique, heavenly feeling: finally, I´m home ... !

  • Stunning images- Beautiful music - Superb!!!

  • imo beautiful

  • This takes my breath away.

  • 0:40

  • It is just the beatuty as it is by itself. Something where you have to be completely into it. Like looking to the mirror and seeing yourself. Thats something :) Thank You.

  • Its amazing how such a simple piece can change your view on the world in a complete different way

  • its sounds unbelievable but during a period of grief and recovery i listened to this and Alina over and over day and night for months... after awhile i could take walks through the woods or down a street in town and hear it playing on and on clearly inside me... even during conversations... it is imprinted in my soul... even if that is just made of clay...

  • @antoniozart love your comment- i lost my children and this piece has helped me channel the grief for 2 years since I first heard it. Until tonight I had not heard it again though I never forgot it and its wonderful name. It makes me praise god, longing for christ and for home, and to know there is truly hope in grief, no matter how deep.

  • @MrsPSALMS8510 oh Thank You so very much for sharing this. "no matter how deep" ~ yes. Grief seems like a whole world... but it is just a place to pass through on the way.

I have already sent copies of this and Alina to my closest friends... and when I am done my work here... I ask them to listen to it... and they will find me there, in the music.

  • @antoniozart I have exactly the same story to tell. and now, once again, after 6 months, getting news about my another frieds death, I find myself here again...

  • This is SO BORING!

Just kidding, I really love this piece. :D

  • Such music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

  • probably one of the most simple and beautiful pieces of music i have ever heard.

  • The world is surely a better place because Arvo Pärt lives in it.

  • I usually don't like minimalism, but this is just beautiful.

  • Heard this song at 2:00 Am on my public radio station. Hurray for public radio!

  • @SALEENS7GTR5 I always think thats the perfect time to listen to it, at 3 maybe, where I live, allllll the bird come out and sing, but otherwise it plays in my head 24/7 :)

  • This song is beautiful... I heard it from that movie Swept Away... I fell in love with it...

  • its my song

  • @poorfyou: the title "Spiegel im Spiegel" is German and means: Mirror in a mirror.

  • @MrsFingerhut It means "Mirror in the mirror" actually -- "im" is equivalent to "in dem".

  • @eallik It can also mean "Mirrors in the Mirror", since Spiegel is not only the singular, but also the plural form of the word. The "im" particle, however, makes it clear that the second Spiegel is singular. =P

  • @srmelomano Thanks for pointing that out, I hadn't realised it.

  • beautiful,my father heroes!

  • What it means the title of the song?

  • This song is so basic, yet brings out such immensely complex emotion and feeling in itself and the listener. I actually stayed in my car to finish listening to this on Classic FM after a hard days work and after rush hour traffic. Felt so relaxed! Listening to it now while in bed trying to get to sleep :)

  • This song reminds me of a girl I know.

  • This song reminds me of peace. It reminds me a place where there is ultimate peace. The snow is slowly falling in huge flakes, I am in the room and watching the flakes falling and securing a place for themselves among the other flakes. I am calm and happy inside, feel inner peace. ..

  • Praying for those suffering in Arizona, especially the parents of the young girl, I pray they can find the peace this song offers.

  • I never want this song to end.

  • @comicfl1 thank god for the replay button eh?

  • @comicfl1 YouTubeRepeat

  • @comicfl1 spiegel im spiegel means mirror in a mirror and if you face a mirror in a mirror it never ends and the notes that are played with both piano and violin acsend and descend in the same way so the music actully could be played and never end, this is the beauty of this peice of music and the way it was wrote :)

  • @alextheman1976 It's lovely music, but what about your spelling and punctuation?!

  • @alextheman1976 It's lovely music, but what about your spelling and punctuation?!

  • @alextheman1976 so thats how it gets it's title! it always confused me.

  • BEAUTIFUL WHAT MORE CAN BE SAID

  • I first heard this on the radio one night when I couldn't sleep. The beauty of it brought tears to my eyes. Absolutely sublime! Exquisite images too! love it!!

  • el compositor es el cosí de la meva dona, una bellissima persona, i he de dir que una peça es molt bona!! desde catalunya, casa teva, felicitats!!

The composer is the cousin of my wife, a beautiful person, and I must say that a piece is very good! from Catalonia, home, congratulations!

Der Komponist ist der Cousin meiner Frau, eine schöne Person, und ich muss sagen, dass ein Stück sehr gut ist! aus Katalonien, der Heimat, herzlichen Glückwunsch!

  • this song makes me think of when you love someone so much it hurts. You feel almost helpless and trapped by it. It's one of the most beautiful yet dangerous things in the world. ...I just had the urge to share that....

  • @hawki1847 Reading your comment I was reminded of the saying "Loving someone is when their happiness is more important than your own". What sucks is when that person doesn't feel the same way about you :-)

  • @aeckvon That means that you didn't get it.

If you truly love somebody you don't care about what the other actually feels about you.

  • Beautiful pictures and video montage

    Congratulation !

  • Nice!!

  • Wow......... music that cradles your soul in kind gentle hands

  • i'm crying!!!! it's too beautiful and sad

  • @masterclassicalmusic I'm crying too

  • bestsong ever

  • The most beautiful thing I think I have ever heard. It's impossible not to cry.

  • Please correct the name; his name is Arvo Pärt.

  • @Pakanahymni He probably doesn't have the letter "ä" on his keyboard.

  • LoveLy

  • Просто красиво. Невероятно. Так просто, но так, мелодичный, это удивительно. Я даже не могу выразить это словами.

  • Haec cantatio omnino pulcherrima est. Amo eam. Si audeo concentus, opto quod finieturne numquam. Gratias ago te ad publicare. Adhuc bacchatus sum.

  • I'm speechless

  • this is such a simple song

    but so so so beautiful..

  • this literally takes my breath away.

  • SWEET november ...

    :*X

  • E UN RAHAT MIHAILEEEEEEEE DE CE RAZIIIIIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A A A AUAAAAA?

  • You dont need words if you have music, it can touch your deepest cell

  • I think this is much more effective with the violin at an octave higher than the cello. The other clip that is to the upper right of this one at 4:04 is most beautiful.

  • I heard this piece just after the death of Pope John Paul, and it still works, that blessed man lying in long earned peace...

  • JakubNo: really really great phrases you have chosen. Im gonna copy them to see them frecuently. Tks a lot, and regards from Mexico! Efra.

  • My heart is full!

Found this music on Swedish Radio. Then wanted to save from You Tube.

Thank you one thousand times for this wondrous video!

The best of life to you, always!

  • That was very cute, I suppose, but I enjoyed the intensity to it.

  • Amazing

  • cool!

  • the four people who dislike this do not truly understand the meaning of beauty xxxxx

  • @ScottishSweetheart Or, perhaps it is simply that beauty looks and sounds different to them than us? You can't define beauty, it's a purely subjective concept-but I too find this to be a masterful arrangement of beauty! This piece can wake me up in the morning, or make me feel sleepy at night, I can listen to it at any given time! X

  • I love this piece of music and it suits your photo's so well nicolas, what part of the world did you take them ?

  • Im not a believer of much.. But I thank "god" for this music..

  • this music makes me cry

  • Some extremely beautiful music by that was used in the film Wit.

  • @Edward245100 - great film. Music also used in another (visually) stunning film - "Heaven".

  • I was absolutely sure that was Scotland, and I was right! (We're going there this summer and I plan to take many photos with my recently-acquired black and white film.)

Some good quotes there to accompany a beautiful piece of minimalism.

  • we all die someday.

  • thx for uploading this beautiful piece of Art...

  • I really love this. It makes me think <3

  • something i want playing at my funeral :) not anytime soon of course.

  • If we , and by "we" I mean the human race can create something as beautiful as this, we can't be all that bad. Sublime.

  • Too bad most of us people are fucking stupid and serve no purpose in the universe at all. Human beings like Arvo Pärt come every 100 years.

  • @Thosis A somewhat overly dismal view I think. ;)

  • Not overly, just barely. Being realistic on some matters just matters.

  • This music always makes me cry... Simply because it is so beautiful.. serene and tranquil... Absolutely lovely, calming and reviving of a weary soul... Thank you for posting this longer version @JakubNo.. This is wonderful and so are the pictures... :0)x

  • Arvo Part wrote this just before he had to leave Estonia for political reasons. I feel it is a wistful, mournful goodbye to his homeland. Heartbreakingly beautiful.

  • This song is so beautiful thanks for uploading it :)

  • and its made by our own brilliant composer Arvo Pärt! Estonia rocks!!!

  • Pure brilliance!

  • tres belle!!

  • This reminds me of Kilar.

  • This piece of music makes me cry, it is so gentle, simple, emotive, beautiful and calming. My weary soul is gently wafted until I feel ready for sleep, this is simply wonderful...

BRAVO Arvo Part, bravo ... :0)x

  • I don't understand how a few triads can sound so beautiful.

  • Such beauty in simplicity.

  • Kuba, ale dlaczego Avro? Jak mogłeś takiego babola (nie Bobola:) wypuścić? :) ...ale zdjęcia wybrałeś piękne.. pozdrawiam...

  • Less, truly is more. Simplicity perfected.

    PS - Who's 'Avro'...? ;-)

  • 1:13 is the most beautiful picture

A picture is like a hundred words

Music is like thousands of pictues...

  • I never thought that something so simple could be so beautiful...I get so emotional when i hear this, i didnt even notice the tears streaming down my face until it ended. this truly is a masterpiece...

  • It is interesting that it's very often the simple thing that touches us the most :)
