@psychoteddy87 The study was published in a peer reviewed journal, there is no reason to suspect bias(unlike the huge majority of GM food studies which are done by the biotech comanies themselves, this was done by an independent scientist with nothing to gain). I agree that 6 rats per group is not a lot, but the study was rather in depth, although no study covers everything. Since this study many independent studies have suggested potential adverse affects in GM fed animals.

I'll say, most meat sucks (not farmed fish, which can use less resources than crop foods)! Certain GM crops actually reduce the use of pesticides. They have a natural pesticide borrowed from a bacteria (i think it was a bacteria) so really that GM crop is reducing the exposure of harmful pesticides to the farmers.

The only problem I see with that is that the DNA can't be cause of it, it must be a chemical produced as a result of the modification. And assuming that were true then we should have been able to identify that based on the tests we do to any food that enters the market. I don't know of any reasons that these should be harmful to our health. Except for what you said with their nutritional content. But people have also made rice that will add some vitamin to a diet so people don't go blind.

Peer reviewed scientific studies need a significant sponsor for funding..either NIH, FDA, pharmaceutical co's etc. The problem is that heads of these organizations are either politically biased or in the case of the FDA, Monsanto alums. if you're chopping down rain forest it's not organic. If everyone had 10sqft to grow their own food they could grow enough food to eat and not rely on the grocery store. Truly organic is people growing their own food.
Organic food may be more expensive, but what else do people spend money on? I know women who won't buy organic food because of the price but buy hundreds of dollars worth of make up, it's a twisted value system. What else are you working for if not to feed yourself good food?
So let say in about 20 years I want to have a kid..with blue eyes. So someone edits the DNA a bit to make me a blue eyed gurl or boy. Could he/she mate with other humans? I really want to look into this more and get some positave info about gm foods however not made by people who's asses are owned by these corporations. His sample was too small and his studies were not in depth enough. So, really, can we count on this study to fully explain GM food?

@psychoteddy87 The study was published in a peer reviewed journal, there is no reason to suspect bias(unlike the huge majority of GM food studies which are done by the biotech comanies themselves, this was done by an independent scientist with nothing to gain). I agree that 6 rats per group is not a lot, but the study was rather in depth, although no study covers everything. Since this study many independent studies have suggested potential adverse affects in GM fed animals.

@MillyVal tasteless tomatoes have nothing to do with GM. Normal breeding is to blame (read about it if you want). You share at least 50% of your genes with fish. This might came as a shock but there is strong evidence of a direct gene transfer between humans and mosquitoes. I also think that you've been genetically modified by various herpes infections. The GM foods are absurdly controlled, at least here in the EU, there's nothing to worry about.

I'm a technophile and I think GM food is a briliant idea. I'm called chemical ally by my mum becoause I use so many pesticides, fertilisers, fungicieds, water gels and other chemicals. I don't think Organic food can stand up to the pace of Gm food. Gm is the answer to rising salt levels drought and desises. Nowardays we can iliminate inhereted illneses by removing the defective gene, wich is brilliant. No more disability, no more children trapped in bodys.

If you go onto the Food standars agencies website it tells you organic in NO healthier. I just DON'T care what others think I should do, or how I should live my life. I can use these chemicals so I WILL. I am not doing anyone any harm. I have eaten chemicaly grown food and I am perfectly healthy.

Droughts and diseases are a natural part of life but pharmacueticals and GMO plants are a wreckless solution with many consequences. Inherited illnesses can be overcome by paying more attention to one's lifestyle and committing yourself to making the neccessary natural changes to defy heredity.
I'm not sure what to say about birth defects but removing gene sequences is a bad idea.

I'll say, most meat sucks (not farmed fish, which can use less resources than crop foods)! However, there are plenty of GMOs in various stages of production that are humanitarian -i.e. made by non-profit organisations for people to use for free. Its just hard to get them approved because the tesing process is really f'ing expensive and non-profits generally dont have that much money spare.

President Bush Sr. ordered the FDA to class GM foods as no different from other foods, therefore generally recognized as safe. Hence, no testing required. It has since been documented that the FDA had grave doubts but dared not defy Bush.

A new European study revealed unintended toxic effects in rats linked with GM maize consumption. In rats fed three main commercialized GM maize varieties (NK603, MON810, MON863), which are present in food and feed across the world,

GO GM. I am so going to buy a GM house plant. GM = GOOD. GM is so COOL. I agree with the scientists, GM is SAFE. My mum calls me chemical Ali because I use so many chemicals in the greenhouse. Pesticides, fertilisers, fungicides, water retaining gel and GM. YUP I use them ALL, but not weed killer, I like my vicious British brambles. GURRR OUCH

The FDA has a strong pro-irradiating foods agenda. Almonds are irradiated and are allowed to be sold as raw. If food irradiation is put in place, it will destroy the medicinal properties of fresh produce, thereby blocking the prevention of diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, etc. This, in turn, has the effect of creating a windfall of sick people that will fill the coffers of drug companies (who are, of course, the FDA's clients).

Certain GM crops actually reduce the use of pesticides. They have a natural pesticide borrowed from a bacteria (i think it was a bacteria) so really that GM crop is reducing the exposure of harmful pesticides to the farmers.

I no sometimes its bacteria sometimes its other plants genes that are naturaly resistant to insects, gm foods havent been around long enough to prove this or maby they have? but what ive herd is that when all these genes mix mice that eat the gm plants ther cells gain the same traights as dormant cancer cells, and what can hapen is down the road these cells can become activated, and gm foods usualy end up being less nutritious then normal foods kuz they grow quiker watchtheworldacording2monsanto

The only problem I see with that is that the DNA can't be cause of it, it must be a chemical produced as a result of the modification. And assuming that were true then we should have been able to identify that based on the tests we do to any food that enters the market. I don't know of any reasons that these should be harmful to our health. Except for what you said with their nutritional content. But people have also made rice that will add some vitamin to a diet so people don't go blind.

Ummm, if a crop has a patent, why not? Like a music artist wants their money for their product. Point is in starving nations we have donated food, that still gets rejected due to all this misinformation. Google "zambia rejects gene-altered crops". Actually GM crops were offered to starving people in Zimbabwe (I think that's where it was), but because they were not allowed it by the government so they kept starving. There is also no evidence connecting heart disease, diabetes and allergies to GM crops. And obesity is just because people eat to much, it's not like GMs make you fat.

Peer reviewed scientific studies need a significant sponsor for funding..either NIH, FDA, pharmaceutical co's etc. The problem is that heads of these organizations are either politically biased or in the case of the FDA, Monsanto alums. If the data could be detrimental for the product or the bottom line, the funded gets retracted or the study does not get published. Being in the medical field, i've seen it first hand.

@TSSdrifting With GM foods, the seeds will be sterile and you will have to rely on manufacturers for your food. Organic is natural and you can reuse the seeds for years to come AND its healthy for your body. And btw, even satan believes in God, Does not matter if your athiest or not, He created you too. if you're chopping down rain forest it's not organic. If everyone had 10sqft to grow their own food they could grow enough food to eat and not rely on the grocery store. Truly organic is people growing their own food.
Organic food may be more expensive, but what else do people spend money on? I know women who won't buy organic food because of the price but buy hundreds of dollars worth of make up, it's a twisted value system. What else are you working for if not to feed yourself good food?

So let say in about 20 years I want to have a kid..with blue eyes. So someone edits the DNA a bit to make me a blue eyed gurl or boy. Could he/she mate with other humans? Well as long as he/she still has a reproductive system I wouldn't see why not. And by the way we are thinking..its much better than fear mongering. I really want to look into this more and get some positave info about gm foods however not made by people who's asses are owned by these corporations. Also making the animals grow faster has been proven to be bad for humans. I really want to look into putting pesticides genetically in.Anyone else kind of nervous about that seriously even if it doesnt kill us what a mega weed that would be.
