Well, friends, I am singing on this recording of The Road Home. I am in my twelfth season with Conspirare. I have been a professional singer for over 25 years and have yet to match the experience that singing with Conspirare brings. The soloist on this recording, Melissa Givens, is an amazing musician and and amazing person. To the person who said her singing was "grandious bullshit", I have one retort: Opinions and assholes....everyone's got one.
@tracyjacobshirk Couldn't agree with you more. Haven't found a recording that approaches this one. Congrats, and keep up the terrific work your ensemble does day in and day out!
Sometimes, after a long day, I fall back into the couch, close my eyes and let myself be enveloped in the beautiful harmonies and rich chords that make up this peaceful song.
It restores my soul.
P.S. The soloist has one of the most excellent soprano voices I have ever heard.
@epandaman13 you mean the part where he said it would have been better if the lady "hadnt PIPED up with her GRANDIOSE BULLSHIT."? I guess that was a nice way to put it. Im sure there are far better ways to voice an opinion. If it would have been tasteful that would be understandable.... wow. I thought I was going to come back in here and read a comment that I might have over reacted to. But I still stand firm. Calling someones interpretation "Grandiose Bullshit" is by no way shape or form nice!
We sang this song in choir, it was the last song we got to sing with Jordan Michael Ressler..the day we came back to school and he wasn't with us, we sang this in honor to him. I miss you forever, and I love you more than words will ever comprehend. I know you're home now. <3
During the summer, I was in a youth choir that traveled to Europe for 3 weeks. This was in our lineup, and it was my personal favorite. Every time our soloist sang, it brought tears to the audience's eyes. Now whenever I hear or sing this, I can imagine myself with the choir again, singing in a beautiful church, or standing on a mountain in France with our voices reverberating off the stony walls. I will never forget my time in Europe.
@Aresolar690, It is a solo with the rest of the choir singing kind of as backup. I admit, someone one with a lighter tone would have been better.. but yet, still a very beautiful piece.
Oh my God, this is so beautiful, almost got me to tears, I know about this kind of music, but never actually took a good amount of time to listen to it MORE OFTEN, this is so awesome.
Thanks for the inappropriate language in your comment. I'm using this recording as an example for my church choir and I'm sure they can't wait to read your opinion.
Hands down, the most beautiful choral tune both in terms of the sound answer the lyrics.....simply stunning:) music like this makes me so happy to be in this life:)
I sang this my senior year in concert choir as knew of the top ensembles in the state! Simply breathtaking...just listen to those lyrics "there is no such beauty as were you belong" absolutely gorgeous. Brings a tear everytime
We sing this song every Friday in my high school choir as a "send-off" to the weekend. This is going to be the number 1 thing I miss in high-school...
@Joeturtle My class at my high school we are singing this as a "send-off" to the seniors as they go out into the world to live their own individual lives.
Thanks so much for posting this recording! It is one of my all time favorites! I would like to point out that the name of the choir is Conspirare, not Conspire. I don't want to be a nuisance, but I wish this recording would come up in a search for "Conspirare".
This recording of The Road Home is gorgeous! The balance, the dynamics - everything! I love it! I was in the SD All-State Chorus and we sang this is 2008. It was amazing :)
The lyricism of the solo at the end is just melting. And the choir's blend and warm tone are beautiful!! Thank you for posting!

Well. TBH. The chorus is very dark already. Right from the start Im like this a heavy chorus. Her voice comes in and I die. Its beautiful

I sang this in my choir during high school every Friday. Now that I'm in college, I miss it dearly. But the message is the same.

I have to totally disagree. I think the soloist has a rich timbre that adds so much to this piece.
