THANKS brilliant video u now understand, i got told i had to have a root canal not fully today got anyibiotics as now i have an infmalled roots so got Amoxicillin? three times a day for 5 days....hopefully all goes well i got told it many not work and i may need crown and it will cost alot : ( im 19 i cant afford it!
while my dentist was giving me a root canal i didnt feel any pain. When my anesthesia wore off it hurt like hell i took some Motrin and it didnt hurt for 6hours+
Root canals do hurt...i was given soooo much Novocaine that i was tasting it. it was only during the filing process that i felt pain however, but those 2 days of pain were well worth it compared to the the pain i had pre-root canal~
Could someone put my mind at rest? I have a slight toothache, but I can stand it. I can actually forget about it easily and the pain goes away, but I think its getting worse. Im going to see the dentist some time in the next 3 weeks and I was wondering how he will treat this? I'm used to fillings, I find that they are pain free and put my mind to rest. However, im not sure if he is going to give me a root canal. I've never had one before and im scared. I'd much rather have a comfortable filling.
i had an infection in my tooth, and i left it and left it.. my tooths now "dead" and i refused a root canal because i fear the drill and have issues being numbed.. but im getting it remove along with 2 other teeth soon. However after that i do need 3 fillings. D: have to face the drill :( and to find a nice dentist because my one is horrible.
@SugarPlumCheese i mean so wat is the cosmetic procedure and options after the pain is gone. After yu pull the teeth. Cause my friend wanna pul two front teeth but im like yu gone have wholes in your mouth and your too young to be snagg?
@secretgirl93 I'm so afraid of the dentist I had mine done under sedation and even after the sedation and novocain wore off I had no pain. Dont listen to horror stories its not the same for every one. Explain your fears to your dentist hopefully they should be able to help reassure you. If they are not listening to your fears then it may be time to find a dentist that is more sensitive to your plight.

i had a fight i got hit in the mouth..it did bleed and i now a little bit loose but didnt move out of place. and my gum is a little swollen around the front tooth.. i can still feel heat and cold sinsitivity...could i have fractured anything please help a.s.a.p thank you
good story...... My late father was a real hard ass ww2 war vet. He lived to be 83 years old and he had not been to a dentist since ww2. He used to pull his own teeth when they went bad. The thing is....he had tons of money....so cost was not the factor, just fear. I assume he never had any infections because he was constantly drinking liquor. The alcohol must have killed any infection
@ThatAdelaideGuy just "brushing" your teeth will not guarantee that you will not have dental problems. If you are not going in for a yearly dental checkup you are asking for trouble down the road. Teeth need to be "scaled" once a year or serious gum problems (that can lead to tooth loss) can result. Also.....if you never floss between your teeth brushing is practically a waste of time. Also you need peroidic x-rays to see how the roots of the teeth are. You are playing with fire...get a check-up
I had pain in the tooth in the (bottom) back. My dentist said I needed a root canal. But the pain is now gone. Should I get a root canal or wait until the pain comes back?
@2000watts if you can afford it get the root canal done "AS SOON AS POSSIBLE". I have had about 10 done in the last 20 years. I can say in all confidence "your pain willcome back"....you will be screaming in agony at like 3 in the morning and you will damn well wish you had done it sooner when it was just giving you warning pains. Also....there is a better chance of success if you have it done in the early stages of the tooths problem.
@JESUS4R3AL lol....where the hell do you live???? I live in the Boston suburbs and it is like 1300 a tooth for a root canal procedure......and that does not include another 1200 for a crown
well my doctor recommended me to do a root canal and its not like my teeth hurts because of different temp its just really senitive like if you tap it then it hurts sooo i was wondering do i really need a root canal?? can some1 plz help??
so im about to get my first root canal yay! he got like half of the crap out today suposivly it was the worst of it,, i absolutly hate hate hate dentists (not them as people) but im wicked scared and got so anxious int hat seat today...oh well ! thank g-d for medicaid! well if they authorize me... better.
just had my second root canal done today , had one done 5 years ago as well, and i have fallen a sleep in both, however a few hours later it does hurt alot, but must say price isn't bad as long as your on the nhs, which for people outside the uk is our national health service which is what some of our taxes go to. i paid £46.50 ($73) and had 2 fillings, scaling and then one of the filligns removed and the root canal done as it still hurt when i ate anything hot or cold

@pipthemakem what you had done in the UK....would have cost you over $2,500 right out of "your" pocket. I assume you needed a crown after the root canal work
@inkey2 thats insane, as i mentioned before this is my second root canal the previous one was done privately in a different country and still wasn't that expensive. i was told that in the future i would probably need a crown but they havent said i need one right now, how ever a crown whether you choose white or yellow gold or pure white is the $319 ( or 198 pounds as it is at a fixed rate on the nhs and that would have covered my root canal work within that amount)
@inkey2 the only mayor downsaide is the nhs won't provide you with natural coloured crowns on your back teeth thats why you can choose white or yellow gold but they will provide natural coloured crowns for you front teeth and if you want natural crowns in the back you have to pay for private health care
Having gone through 5-6 of these procedures, you know I procrastinate... one of these days, I shall break the habit. I delay because I fear the pain, I feel the pain because of the delay... dammit!!
I am a dentist and I agree that dental treatment is expensive. But let me tell everyone that there is more to it. First, the overhead to run a practice is a lot. Most dentists run at least a 50% overhead. Plus, dental school is expensive. Most students are 1/4 million in debt when they graduate. I feel for everyone who can't afford it but society spends money on cigarettes and other stupid things, when they should be saving it for whats important like their health and education.
Bad move root canals cost you a fortune and can make u sick as a dog (systemic)better of with a gap in yer teeth than a great big void in yer bank account and a slow poisoning of your immune system
i have a root canal due in two weeks along with the total bill of 2,875 dollars for eveything, that is INSANE!!!! THE FUCKING CROWN COST LIKE 900 DOLLARS? WTF!
I had a root canal done several yrs back but the stuff they put in my tooth was decaying. They had to go back in and do another root canal to get all of the old stuff out and put new in. I had also developed an infection. My tooth has been hurting for a long time. So, even though they take out the nerve, it can still hurt.
hi i have a question does your teeth get in pain after root canal like when drinking or eating something cold or hot after root canal will it hurt? I need all the information u can give me about what u can or cannot eat after root canal and why does it hurt?
I recently hd 2 rt canals through #3 and #5 gold 3 unit bridge, one acute process with advanced bone disease, TX prognosis is good but I hv had persistant headaches ...onset in the frontal, 10 hrs duration borderline incapacitated with nausea I went to the VA todayLOL. Im told the dental did it ,hard to believe, the trigeminal nerve has nothing to do with the frontal any help??
Had over 10 root canals done on my teeth 15 years ago and now finding out I have many incomplete root canal done. So now the teeth are decayed under the porcelain crown. Over $30,000 dollars out of my pocket and not counting the PAIN I dealt with and now what to do ? Hmmmm Don't have roots canals , just get them pulled.
@walkinawareness You obviously had poor root canal treatment if they were incomplete. Can't blame the procedure if the person doing it didn't do a proper job. Next time see a specialist. Root canals are technically difficult and they should be done by someone qualified and experienced.
@tokidoki8 i had a rootcanal about a month agao and they just put on my crown (fake tooth)....nd yes u can chew gum but i wouldnt chew gum for about a week or 2 after u get the rootcanal,,,and if it fall u ddont have to get another rootcanal they just put a new crown on top again....
I just had a root canal and it was the mmost painful experience I have every had (And I've had brain surgery ti have a tumor removed). My problem is that I had a permanent cap on the tooth in question so I felt no discomfort until the tooth was "hot". No anesthesia helped. Basically felt everything up until the nerve was reached. I will never put a cap on a tooth that has not had a root canal again.
i had one done a couple of days ago and im waiting for my insurance to approve a crown so i have a temporary filling. my tooth never hurt before but its killing me right now. the procedure didnt hurt me at all. i was very numb. if it hurts you guys tell the dentist and he can give you another shot!!!!!
i agree with the cost. If someone is in so much pain as i was, why so expensive?? you are in pain, its not cosmetic surgery to enhance your looks!! its treatment to start you functioning again. I had mine yesterday, oh the bliss of no pain. I feel bad for those who cant afford it, i couldnt either, that was my christmas spending money on gifts, but the pain is gone.
@CasualLThug $750 for a tooth closer to the front but for molars it's $1200 roughly all depends. if your work has an insurance plan get signed up right away, lol
this is sooo comforting to know. All the people in this thread who've undergone it and say the procedure is painless.... am undergoing 2 root-canals in the next 3 days...
people keep creating a hype about rrot canals.....i dont understand what it is all about.....if ur given anaesthesia i dont understnad why it shoudl hurt...n even if it does hurst its only for a minute or so.........taking about rot canals changing ppl's life....well yea it does improve the anatomy of your former tooth if it din;t look that good..I got a root canal done 2 weeks back for the first tym in my life...well all i can say is i think it ws not the pain but the fear that made ma cry..!!!
Omg man I know what you mean I though I needed one but all I need was a feeling was so fucking happy, The dentist was like "it was almost a root canal" but just ended up being a deep filling.
Don't be! It's not that bad. They give you lots of Novocaine and actually remove the nerve at the bottom of the tooth, so you have no more pain or sensitivity. All you need for post-procedure pain management is Tylenol or Aleve. You will survive!
Is it cheaper to have the tooth extracted and then have a post and fake tooth put in it's place or to simply do the root canal? What are the average success rates of both? Thanks.
well in acute pulpitis, when the pulp get entirely necrosed then the pain dissapears and then the pulp may get irreversibly damaged which is often reffered to as 'dry gangrene'.....so i suggest u get your root canal done.....
Damn.. My dentists took out my cavity and they went a little too deep to the nerve. Now my tooth hurts. They say that if it doesn't stop hurting in 2 weeks, they would recommend a root canal. Does it hurt? Will it hurt my gums? Will it hurt when they pull the nerve out? Posted: July 15th, 2009 Time: 3:05 (US / Canada, Eastern Central Time)
Yea the worst part is the needle and thats it , and laying down with ur mouth open for a hour i had to get 3 of em it hurts a little after nothing u cant deal with
when i got mine last week i would say for me the needle was probably the least painful, like on a scale from 1 - 10 (1 being least painful) the needle was a 1, i almost didnt even feel it :)
yeh (jormaukko) i got the same thing just the pain killer didnt work for me and the infection did get far...i felt like i had a broken jaw or more like labour pain in my mouth..
I lost a molar tooth when I was in grade school from a chicken bone. Now I have a hole in my gum after eating a Tortilla chip a year ago where tooth was. It never closed up and now it looks yellow and hard. Is this maybe the rest of the tooth? Did the chip just open it up or what? I have a Dentist apointment in a week and would like some info asap! thanx
yeah im having some hot sensitivity and my dentist says i might need one. a lot of people go around saying they really hurt and they ruined their lives, but i dont really care, as long as i get my root canal early
I got a root canal without novicane or any type of anesthetic. I literally sat down and got it. And I felt absolutely nothing. I'm so glad I got a root canal instead of getting it pulled.
The pain that comes from the teeth that needs root canal is crucial, I had to take painkillers in order to sleep at night.
That's how painful it was for me, so if you have this, I recommend going to the doctor before you get trouble with the puss getting to your bloodstream

Why are they so damn expenive? I appreciate it's a delicate procedure but it's almost 10 times the cost of a filling?

Omg man I know what you mean I though I needed one but all I need was a feeling was so fucking happy, The dentist was like "it was almost a root canal" but just ended up being a deep filling.

Don't be! It's not that bad. They give you lots of Novocaine and actually remove the nerve at the bottom of the tooth, so you have no more pain or sensitivity. All you need for post-procedure pain management is Tylenol or Aleve. You will survive!
SenseOrSensibility 2 years ago
Is it cheaper to have the tooth extracted and then have a post and fake tooth put in it's place or to simply do the root canal? What are the average success rates of both? Thanks.

sooo i've needed a root canal for 4 years now but my parents will not pay for it
and it hurts so bad sometimes :( but after some months it goes away though

well in acute pulpitis, when the pulp get entirely necrosed then the pain dissapears and then the pulp may get irreversibly damaged which is often reffered to as 'dry gangrene'.....so i suggest u get your root canal done.....

pain depends on how good ur dentist is
technosk8tr 2 years ago 4
Yea the worst part is the needle and thats it , and laying down with ur mouth open for a hour i had to get 3 of em it hurts a little after nothing u cant deal with
slimybean1 2 years ago
when i got mine last week i would say for me the needle was probably the least painful, like on a scale from 1 - 10 (1 being least painful) the needle was a 1, i almost didnt even feel it :)

I have a Dentist apointment in a week and would like some info asap! thanx

yeah im having some hot sensitivity and my dentist says i might need one. a lot of people go around saying they really hurt and they ruined their lives, but i dont really care, as long as i get my root canal early
gtEvilPoke 3 years ago
I got a root canal without novicane or any type of anesthetic. I literally sat down and got it. And I felt absolutely nothing. I'm so glad I got a root canal instead of getting it pulled.

how can i tell the diffrence bewteen this and simple tooth ache
frogkiller54 3 years ago
The pain that comes from the teeth that needs root canal is crucial, I had to take painkillers in order to sleep at night.
That's how painful it was for me, so if you have this, I recommend going to the doctor before you get trouble with the puss getting to your bloodstream
