  • Well, to be fair, we STILL don't know about the Stegosaur's plates becaus they're detached from the body, so it could have gone either way.

  • Actually it's pretty obvious that Stegosaur plates were paired, not alternating as claimed by the gentleman in the video. I think my advisor said it best, something to the effect of "there are no known animals in history that have parts of their body that alternate from one side to the other. Vertebrates are bilaterally symmetrical and they just don't do that kind of thing."  Until I can think of a single example of something that fits his challenge I'm gonna say they were definitely paired.

    True, but Stegosaurus is unlike any modern animal. I'm not trying to discredit your adviser, but dinosaurs are radically different from anything alive today. Yes, birds are their descendants, but evolution changes many things. Perhaps you're right, perhaps I am, but since the fossilized plates of a Stegosaur aren't connected to their body, there's simply know way of knowing for sure.
