  • @IxCLuTcHxI no, it's Premo asking the questions, and Jeru answering them

  • Great song, fun video. Back when videos were still creative. I liked the big money braggin MC's of the day too, but it was cool to hear Jeru do something that would really make you think.

  • The is a classic. nuff said.

  • now this is what you call creative!

  • 23 people are playin' themselves.

  • For the rest of your life....you will NOT see a video like this again.

  • @multigrooves perfectly stated..

  • add + if you are here because of peja and o.s.t.r

  • Without those that play themselves; would this masterpiece track exist?

  • @multigrooves Never thought about it this way, but you are right - it won't.

  • @multigrooves

Even better, it wouldn't need to ;)

  • was that a go at Busta at 1:17

  • @HipHopRally My fault then, bro. I thought you still can't wake up from east-west rap battle and s***

  • The truth is never popular.

    Respect

  • Damn they whooped their asses. And Afu-ra just went all out.

  • This shoulda been a full length movie... hott

  • Mad Dope

  • IF JERU WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IN THE 90s ..... HE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A FEW MARTIAL ARTS MOVIES w/ say ........ Jackie Chan ???? ..... IMAGINE - JERU & JACKIE KICKIN ASS !!! ..... ( and Jeru sidekick there too .... )

  • what has kung fu got to do with these lyrics? true lyrics though

  • @kareemabdullah - On a metaphorical level, he's playing with the idea that he's doing battle with the ignorance and the folly of today's society - a kind of down to earth super-hero. Then, he's also an mc who doesn't take himself, or his art, too seriously (though he's deathly earnest). And, look at him, he's having fun! It's refreshing even this late in the game.

  • @kareemabdullah

Jeru and Afu Ra study an African martial art IRL.

  • amazing how relevant all these words are today....

  • 22 people are playin theirselves

  • There's another version of this video where during the fight scene, he does a back breaker on the guy. I have no idea why it was taken out. It wasn't anything major but I guess MTv was starting to become kid friendly at this time.

  • wtf 1st time listenin 2 this guy and theres a lotta kung fu. is he on sum wu tang shit

  • how can you possibly hate on this?

  • 22 people have played themselves

  • @oldskool1978fam ha i couldn't say it any better.

  • Brilliant video recorded before the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong fro the UK to the People's Republic Of China July 1st 1997. Jeru's director made impressive use of the city's busy backdrop combined with legendary Kung Fu action to create a masterpiece. Rza's Tragedy video was shot around the same time but didn't at all portray the vibe of Hong Kong the way Jeru's did. Jeru not a classic hiphop artist? Ya playin' yourself!

  • SO doppppppppppe

  • HipHop at it's greatest, this rapper has flow like no other an them beats man, pure hypnotise me

  • black man in chinese garments?jeru ya playing yourself.lol. old skool hip hop 4 life though.

  • ohh shieet pete rock and jeru together cant wait on that

  • this song is dedicated to Pdiddy and the bad boy record label.

  • One of the best vids of the 90's!

  • yeah the one and only afu ra

  • is that AfuRa in the beginning? idk if I know him well enough to recognize him

  • "Asses shake, bottles pop, the government is breakin down

you fools, you work all week and give the devil back his loot

for jewels" theres no artist that can say something like that today

  • Peja Feat OSTR , Jeru The Damaja /watch?v=qTZiORJ1ST0

  • @TMNTUploaderPolska

  • yh jeru always been a beast wish more people would listen to him

instead all these little wets get the attention when a real rapper aint gettin shit

  • Word!

  • iLL fight scene

  • Hip Hop wa great when they had real MC's and not just rappers with something relevant to say

  • 22 people playin emselves

  • @eddie31003 enouph with the dislikes analogy!!

  • @Applesaucathan oh yes

  • what ever happened to mc's like jeru ,the wu, gang star(r.i.p.),helta skelta, ect

  • Old school...new school...Don't base that shit on the date when an MC was born...Base it on the words that they spit...Jeru is old school, showin all those wanna be's that try to flow what rap and hip-hop are all about...

  • Reedukacja .

    RPS & JERU & O.S.T.R - Oddałbym

  • let me hear Jeru, fuck wiz kalifa

  • does anyone think questlove looks like jeru???

  • Good shit!Jeru SOLID!I miss my 90's rap classics. This is so real.No bling bling BS.

  • tyler the creator brought me here ODWGKTA FUCK!!!

  • real hip hop..

  • just read this on wikipedia:

Recently Jeru confirmed he will drop a new album in 2011 with production from 90's legends JuJu, Pete Rock, Large Professor & old time collaborator (their problems since reconciled) DJ Premier

i almost jizzed when i read that

  • @bwanieman123 No shit? DAMN, it's gonna be the shit!

  • I have the weirdest feeling that legitamite hip hop's gonna be reborn in the next decade or so. The past decade's been a little weak. I like Kanye and Lupe & all...and Jay Z is great too, but nothing can touch vintage hip hop or underground/alternative rap.

  • @stoogefest16 I hope you are right.

  • @bwanieman123 Fuck yeah! Jeru and Premo are one of hip hops best combo's! Rock the Bells ?

  • @bwanieman123 u and me both man

  • @bwanieman123 whoaa

  • @bwanieman123 SAY WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how do you know about this please hit me up.

  • Yo this track is dope as fuck!

  • Watch new track by Jeru with Polish rappers:

Slums Attack - Oddałbym feat. O.S.T.R. & Jeru the Damaja

  • Yes. Yes I am

  • true hiphop.

  • This song is dedicated to real heads all around the world. All around the world! From the US to Poland to South Africa, people who love Hip Hop are disgusted at the current level of mainstream MC's. They are stupid mother Fuckers! Jeru is a real MC, and most people don't understand that. These days HipHop is just a big business. Jeru would never sell his soul for money. Instead of buying weapons, feed the hungry people you greedy fuckers.

  • im not playin myself but im playin WITH myself!!

  • i mean hip hop was wacker in 2000 than it was in 1996, and 1996 it was wacker than in 1992. same for 88. if u just ignore the commercial fucks like Diddy that started in 96/97, then hip hop was still dope but maybe just not as dope as in 92. for example, 1996 brought us jay-z (an uncocky jigga) althought hov is good and bad in certain ways reasonable doubt was still dope

  • Right before this video was a video advertising Mormonism that made me feel misanthropic. Good thing Jeru brought me back to loving humanity though =)

  • Man, I've been sleeping on Jeru for a while now. He's dope as hell.

  • hong kong boop

  • Perfect voice & rhytm of rapping, sounds chilled and decent.

Word up and respect to real hip hop.

  • his first two albums are classics in my mind both produced by primo! nuff said.

  • One of the dopest hiphop videos in my mind!!

  • A visionary, that's what he was since most of these things are still valuable for todays so called rappers...

  • Jeru is real dope

  • this mv was shot in hong kong !

  • fucking flowwwww

  • Funny how positive the underlying messages of this song are; Jeru's complaining about the very things that the anti-hip-hop crowd loves to rave about: drug traffic, objectification of women, and corporate greed in the music industry.

  • Love this track!

  • Real hip hop is still around all we gotta do is change it!!

  • @redevil858 change it to what? why change it?

  • @oldfilikin Bcuz rap now a days is whack and all about swaggin and wearing ice cream shirts, but trust me in a couple years or a whole 10 years rap games goin change and i promise u dat.

  • @redevil858 Let's hope so old boy, in the meantime check out Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer. Good day to you sir

  • All rappers now days say things dat are garbage! Theres a few good artists here and there but not like b4

  • @redevil858 real hip hop iz only in tha underground

  • Man what happened to real hiphop like this? So sad!

  • :24 remember pagers? good times

  • what ever by jeru the damaja is my fave

  • 21 ppl work for p diddy, lil wayne, etc

  • @Golfshooter haha true

  • this is great. i used to listen to this with my man chris when we were traversing the east coast, going in and out of the city underneath the hobo bridge, standing underneath streetlights, smoking cigs and taking you no. I don't want to hear anyone else talking about how nowadays music sucks, i know it suckss, but its because of the industry, its corrupted. fuck them, and also the hell with it fuck these impostor artists too!

  • no homo

  • that tall skinny dude is a baaaaaaaaaaaad motha:smh

  • hip hop just went underground

  • So if Jeru playing Players anthem Players Anthem backwards as a beat is not one of the greatest gimmicks out there you are all fools. Mad respect to Jeru and none to all you fake hip hop lovers out there. Stop listening to all your 50 Cent cd's and actually listen and learn about old school hip hop.

  • I am not taking away from Jeru as he is one of the dopest lyricists out there. I am taking away from pretend hip hop fans that hear an old school beat and just cause they know an old song think they are true hip hop fans. The highest rated comment says no gimmicks (correct spelling). A gimmick is a concealed, usually devious aspect or feature of something, as a plan or deal. It also means an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention.

  • @akslickak

i don't know if i'm a true hip hop fan, i just know what hip hop i like and what hip hop i dislike. i started listening hip hop around 1990 and i have to say after 1996 when it turned into a good way to make money, it has turned to shit (with a few exceptions ofcourse, don't want to generalize).

  • @Golfshooter This shit dropped in '96, and there was just as much wackness in Hip-hop then as there is now (well, maybe not quite as much)....the point is...you had to search out the good shit then and now.

  • @astumpe80

Its always the way it is. The diamonds are in the dirt.

  • @astumpe80 You crazy name one wack rapper that came out in 96. All hip hop was dope as hell that year, if anything hip hop started getting wack in the early 2000's.

  • @mtzxple Master P

  • @mtzxple Wasn't that when Puff Daddy started coming around?

  • @akslickak

hey why dont you gimmick your azz hahaha

  • @blackoil911

    point proven black ;)

  • @blackoil911

Maybe you could have used a gimmick or some wit in there BLACK

  • @akslickak is not about knowing songs is about feeling them

  • Comment removed

  • @akslickak you sound like a fuckin punk, you the judge of whose a real fan or what?

  • @akslickak

    nice explaination lol

  • @akslickak maybe us true hip hop fans need to be a little more patient with the fakes afterall they have to start somewhere as do us.

  • @akslickak i hear you...i'm glad i was like 12 when this first came out, funny thing is i don't even consider this old school cuz i never stopped listening to it!!! haha

  • Comment removed

  • this aint no english class

damn some people on youtube just like finding other comments mistakes and then googling the word n then copy n pasting the whole section on "gimmick" to try and look really cool and smart

shut the fuck up and listen to some jeru

  • @akslickak pure truth, i have been a hip hop head from the first time i heard a rap song, alot of people play old school hip hop just to try and validate themselves. The fact is that real hip hop heads understand hip hop as an art form, not just a musical style, and most newer rappers could be considered knock off artists at best. the real will always recognize the real, real hip hop heads will always recognize real hip hop, fakes will only recognise popular old school

  • @akslickak I get what you mean but those of us who grew up listening to great shit like this are fucking old now. Come on though for real. Most of the younger generation didn't get the chance to be a part of such amazing music. I welcome any new listener who hears this shit and rides the dick immediately. Hopefully they get inspired to make music like this one day.

  • With all these copied ideas, your PLAYIN yourself. Stealing WUTANG's swag, your PLAYING yourself, givin no credit to RZA your PLAYIN yourself your PLAYIN yourself JERU's playin himself! lol

  • yeah i love that song!

  • he was talking about biggie and bad boy in this song...

  • There are 21 dumb ass folks out there cause this song is mad relevant in 2010!

  • be honest, yáll was thinkin that last fight would be a lot longer didn't y'all. No gimmics even in the video
