@MrMTDstyle The point is not to shorten the name. This one is just called a GT-R, not a "Skyline GT-R" even though it's a successor to the R34 Skyline GT-R. They dropped the Skyline name because in Japan the Infiniti G35 is called a Skyline. The second reason is that the GT-R is a totally different car built from the ground up and only loosely related to the old R34 Skyline GT-R. Nissan made a point to disassociate the Skyline name with the GT-R. I hope that makes sense.

Identifying the Nissan GTR is a little rough, seeing as the chassis code for the GTR is R35. Following suit with prior Skyline Models (R30-R34) it is, however, NOT a Skyline model car. The Skyline models are released in base models, GTS models and GTR models, but the Nissan GTR was released solely as a GTR. Nissan produced it to be a flagship of their best work. They dropped the Skyline name and re-marketed the car as an exotic losing the stigma of a Skyline, and gaining the appeal of an exotic.

@MrMTDstyle The point is not to shorten the name. This one is just called a GT-R, not a "Skyline GT-R" even though it's a successor to the R34 Skyline GT-R. They dropped the Skyline name because in Japan the Infiniti G35 is called a Skyline. The second reason is that the GT-R is a totally different car built from the ground up and only loosely related to the old R34 Skyline GT-R. Nissan made a point to disassociate the Skyline name with the GT-R. I hope that makes sense.
