"Times like these make me want to go straight." was about jobs as in "out of a life of crime", nothing to do with a sexual lifestyle.

Although his character did do some cross dressing acting in a few episodes, but so did most of the other main characters so that doesn't really mean anything.

pretty much James is a celibate, he just wants to make friends and travel. (see that episode about his family) and there's NOTHING wrong with celibacy.
