I imagine that the slow parts are Sherlock's life before John, and then it speeds up and changes to become more lively/interesting once he has John in his life....
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I love it!! You are a great pianist. Question: At the end when you go higher up on the piano....what are the notes? I've been trying to play this song and that last part has got me licked. :) You are awesome!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely loved it slow, it really captured the melancholy side of Sherlock. It's really interesting how the pace of the music completelly changes the emotion, amazing!
@CatniponDiscworld I just learned this tune heh, I love that syncopation - first tune I ever learned was "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin, took me 2 hours to get the syncopation going and weeks to learn to play the tune with only about 3 errors heh. But since that I've always found syncopated playing really easy to pick up compared with other styles - boogie-woogie is damn hard though, I can't get used to it lol.
When I hear this ONLY one thing is coming to my head - Sherlock's face with the most sly impression ever. Brows up and down, smirk widening... like "c'mon, guess this, don't be dumb..."
I know you might not be able to yet, but try to make the faster part of the piece lighter and the trills quicker. Also, add some phrasing. Then it will be amazing :)
@CatniponDiscworld This is ripe for being put into a point-and-click style game, or even a Sherlock game on the "Heavy Rain" engine! And I loved the ragtimeish bit too, that's the *only* style I'm any good at (self-taught); you can bet I'm gonna learn this, and you're bookmarked! :D Thank you for sharing this with us Catnip!
@WolfgangTheHusky I actually listen to the soundtrack to enable me to enter my mind-palace :D (Mind-palace is the second best word(s) I've ever heard, second to "teledildonics"). If you google that word btw you will prolly get a page up about a custom PIC board called the "pen15" board lol Gave me a laugh anyhow....
This is great fun to play, so well done for working it out for everyone. May I propose one slight change? The F minor chords in bars 11 and 12 should be F major. They then revert to F minor for bars 13 and 14. Hope this helps!
@catnipondiscworld do you have sheetmusic or just the notes named on a piece of paper ( like A B# C or something) and would you please be so kind to send them to me ??
@CatniponDiscworld Thanks, but I am sad now I probably can't play this on harp. the crosses and stuff ( don't know the english words) are irritating. I have to use the hooks on my harp really fast to accomplish that, it porbably won't work but I am gonna try it anyway.
You played that by hearing only? I envy you so much for that ability!! Your piano does not seem to be the newest one, but it's got a very pleasant sound! You're kinda amazing! I play the piano as well, for about 12 years now, but sadly I can't play by ear.
It sounds beautiful, doesn't it? That thing is my biggest treasure and I will play it until it breaks from over-usage.
I found out that it was built sometime in the 1930s. I'm really proud I have a 70-something year old piano.
That's also why it sounds so good. The wood has had time to harden, which helps carry the sound. That's why most wooden instruments sound best when they're old. (provided you treat them well)
Well, I can't read notes. ^^; That's why I play by ear.
First I wanna say WOW you really have talent, i really love this video *o* and second THANK YOU SO MUCH for put the link to the page of Noteflight *w* thank you you really help me with this
you need to let go of the pedals more to kill off that, whats the word?the clashing sound?apart from that a bit faster at the begging and your golden thanks for the music
That I'm so slow at the beginning is entirely on purpose. I listened to one of the scenes in the first episode and the music was that slow in the background.
But thanks on the advice with the pedal. I really need to get that under control.
Thanks for the advice. That's exactly the stuff I have problems with, I also get far to stiff while playing. I'll try to keep that in mind. Also: the sound quality isn't that good, I played it a lot quieter than it sounds here. Not sure why that happened.
Oh so well done... Just beautiful ! You made it by ear O.o ? I wish I could play like you ! :D Well, thank you very much for doing this, it's really wonderful ! :)

@Yoteable Yeah I know... But this was the best I could do... I did a run without mistakes just before that, but my little sister barged in on me in the last second. Boy, I was angry.
Anyway, after that run i did a few more takes but it just went downhill. So that was the best it got :)
It's an old concert piano we bought from a blues band. They sold it really cheaply (for a piano) because the pedals didn't work anymore. We had to fix it first, but now it sounds beautiful and it's brilliant to play on. :)

Any chance you could make this into an mp3 for download? I'd love to be able to listen to your playing on my ipod.

You're just brilliant. I'd been looking for this theme everywhere, so it's just great to hear your interpretation on it. That theme nearly sold the show on it's own (o; Thanks so much for posting it! Cheers.
