There is something vaguely familiar about this clip that I can't put my finger on. Well, whether I remember her or not, she certainly is pretty to look at. :)
I've been searching for the gymnast Sesame clips for a long time now, particularly "Slow." I want to see that bar routine now, as an adult and former competitive gymnast!
Did the same blond gymnast do all of them? It drives me nuts I can't identify her. She might have been a US National Team member circa 1970.
From what people have been telling me and others, it stands a good chance that she is Jodi Yocum, an alternate on the 1976 U.S. Olympic team and graduate of the famed 'Parkettes' gym in Allentown PA.
Finally - the gymnast I so fondly remember from the 1970's! There were six such clips (as I recall), which were: 1. Around (pommel horse) 2. Beginning-End (uneven bars) 3. Between (this one, pommel horses) 4. Close To-Away From (rings) 5. Over-Under (pommel horse) 6. Slow (uneven bars routine, slower pace) Again, thanks! Wow! I'd been waiting for someone to post a clip with the gymnast. I hope someone posts a few more of them. There was one particular one with music that I can't quite remember the tune of, but as I recall, it was beautiful (might have been "slow", but for some reason, I think it might be "around".
ulij20, When I think of it, I think that the music for 'slow' and 'around' might be the same (though I could be wrong). I think I remember all six clips having nice, peaceful music to them (though 'close to-away from' might have been a little more 'energetic-sounding'). Glad to hear that there others who remember and are interested in the gymnast.
I always thought the same song was used for all of the gymnast clips (I vaguely remember the one used for the "between" one, but I thought that was from a different segment, like when they show something like an animal). As I recall, there might not have been music for the "Close to, away" one. But, inasmuch as it's been over 25 years since I've seen these, I don't really remember.

Just wondering, because all the people who are posting on this one might be in the same general age range. Hopefully no offense - just my guess. Yes, I did watch Sesame Street in the early 1980s, even though I was a little old for it. (However, for every episode, I wrote down a log of every segment featured on each show - Not sure if the gymnast was still featured back then.)

1) Who was this gymnast? Does anyone know her name, & was she an athlete of caliber?
2) Was the song a Joe Raposo creation? I never completely forgot these gymnast clips, primarily because of this song! Does anyone happen to know if the song has a title?
A remake of this with either gymnasts Shannon Miller or Shawn Johnson demonstrating between sounds terrific.
