Love 'em. Hey if you want to see a trip check out Captain Beyond. Best 70's group ever. Out of San Francisco built from the Purple lead vocalist that sang the HUSH album. Highly recommend the 2 albums they cut before blowing up. They went to CD.
thank god the times of elephant style pants is far gone but its a pitty that there is not more bands like deep purple coming around just 5 guys and their instruments no bullshit
I've always wished either Ian was in this lineup, or that Glen wouldv'e sang lead - the song was designed for someone with great range, which Coverdale just didn't have (or at least he wasn't in the habit of showing it...) - normally, one of my very favorite DP tunes, but this version , in spite of tons of live energy, just doesn't work out well. (I refuse to dis it, though, as that would be blasphemy towards the Gods of Heavy R&R)
@MDS1958 Your talking bullshit fella their voices complment each other if Glen Hughes had been good enough for a front man I'm sure somebody would have taken him..
@MDS1958 Both sing well Hughes sings high notes better than most I saw him 2 months ago in BCC excellent David Coverdale is very good at what he does anyweay who gives a shit love music and enjoy..
@guitarman4u100 Ritchie's refusal to go on had nothing to do with ELP. They were CONTRACTED to go on as soon as it was DARK. The show ran fast, they were asked to go on while still light. Richie said, "Nope" and locked himself in his dressing room.
Glenn Hughes their new bassist after Roger Glover left was a better vocalist than Dave Coverdale . . . . . played bass as well. Imagine Tommy Bolin with Glenn Hughes in this band . .
@MrTotallyDave lawl! Well now he is known for being a Robert Plant imitator but when he first started with Deep Purple, he at least had his own voice.
I drive through the former site of the Ontario Motor Speedway quite often. I’m trying to figure out where the exact location of the stage was-can anybody tell me this? Since the sunset was behind them, it was on the west side, obviously. Was it somewhere by where Inland Empire Blvd. crosses Porsche Way?
I was stationed at March AFB in Riverside and was just returned from Southeast Asia. I attended the Jam that year, but don't really remember a lot about what happened there. ;^)
Ha, that's funny- I'm sure other people noticed it was Imus speaking at the beginning of this? Also, I'm sure this is all Deep Purple fans checking this video out but honestly, these guys are jokers compared to their other hard rock contemporaries- Zeppelin, Sabbath, or Aerosmith. Nothing to this shit music... Blackmore? Really?? What a hack. Guy can hardly play. Although I can't think of his name right now, I have always dug this drummer...
@TheMetalanimal The drummer's name is ian pace. These guys are right up there with Zeppelin. Listen to the live video of "Child in Time." Ian Gillan one of the best voices to come out of this era!
Proof that I'm one step away from being a dinosaur . I was there, at CalJam ..... Deep Purple, ELP, Black Sabbath, Black Oak ... It was an incredible concert!!! Only way it could have been even better was if Nugent had been on the bill, too
Deep Purple set a standard for future hard rock acts, at least the ones who have talent. Speaking of the talent philosophy, you have got to check out this new band Den Of Thieves! These guys are amazing! The guitarist reminds me of the style of Robin Trower and Ritchie Blackmore. Its called "Killing For Love".
@FFENNDERR Well, among those 400.000 people, there's probably not gonna be people you know personally. But even if you do, if you have 400.000 followers, you shouldn't even care. :)
Couldn't agree with you more Tricksrules, I started listening to DP in the 1970's and never looked back, prog rock is the best music ever because it lets the musicians be as creative as possible. As you can see from this video. But I do wish Richie Blackmore would mend his differences with the other members of DP reform and make millions. OH! how I would love a ticket for that gig
@metalkid141 Although I like the Rolling Stones better, I agree that Deep Purple is a great band.. But you should really learn what overrated means, because the Rolling Stones are not overrated. They made great music and had a great influence on Rock.
'Burn' was one great record. Definitely buy the record, if ya get hold of it and 'Come taste the band' if ya find that one. I know it ain't DP w.o. Ritchie, but it's a great record, give it a chance.
the lead singer here is David Coverdale who later on became solo Whitesnake Here I Go Again On My Own; but Glenn Hughes the Bass guitar voice singing hi hi kicks arsse; notice also Jon Lord hammond keyboard doing lots of John Sebastian Bach
The Glenn Hughes was not the lead singer of Deep Purple, because it would not have to raise the tone
songs, and he could not reach the bass Ian Gillan, Coverdale has a great
serious and medium, but weak treble, and his tone turned pro blues drew the attention of
Ritchie Blackmore, in fact, Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale together, give the vocal range
Ian Gillan, all are great singers, the great Glenn has its highs and its Coverdale
excellent bass, it is foolish to compare.

And the critics are saying The Rolling Stones are the best rockband ever.
But I say they are overratest rockband ever.
They don't have a singer like Ian Gillan, whose voice has the power of 3 octaves.
They don't have a guitarist like Ritchie Blackmore, his guitar skills are legendary.
They don't have a keyboardist like Jon Lord, nobody plays as melodic as him.
They don't have a drummer like Ian Paice, who is probably the fastest ever.
Do I need to say more?
