Its true DC was planning to kill of Dick Grayson. However, they changed their minds at the last minute because Dick Grayson is the most connected character in the DCU.
So instead of killing Nightwing they killed of Superboy

It's a very interesting character analysis. You can really tell how much you care about the character, and what he means to you.
I just want to say Dick Grayson, dead parents thing aside, is the luckiest kid on earth. What dad could possibly be cooler than Batman?
And Superman has to be the Coolest of All Possible Cool Uncles.
