  • Dr. House was married to Molly Weasley

  • @RecklessPants Worse. He married Umbridge.

  • @WhySoAnimated Oh you're right! I was close but yeah, that is much MUCH worse.

  • He looks very handsome as a Jane Austin man :P

excellent line! - "he's always without his humour"

"she'll be wet through when she returns..."

"thank you for pointing that out, dear"

I know this video is about Hugh Laurie but you should have just slipped in the clip of the lady his character is married to when she hears them talking about going to London and she runs over all bouncy and gasping and smiling. It's THE FUNNIEST bit in the whole film!

good job :) but he's in it more than this...?

  • That poor poor man, I pity him greatly.

  • This movie is from 1995? He was House before House as a tv show was made!

  • I thought he was the best part of the movie.

  • ...some women just don't know how to take a hint >.>

  • Has anyone every uttered the sole word 'try' so brilliantly?

  • Mr. Palmer is my favorite Jane Austen male character! LOL

  • lol Mr palmers F**k my life expression at 2:18 :) :O

  • IT'S NOT LUPUS

  • Man, me and a friend of mine used to LOVE this film when we were kids and Mr Palmer always made us laugh so much. To me he'll always be Mr Palmer, no matter how faqmous he becomes because of House.

  • I love how he holds the baby.

  • the question here is.. why on nine hells did he marry her??

  • @sadel7 money makes the world go round, the world go round, the world go round xD

  • @cabinthewoods90 With those looks I'm sure she might have find someone better! :S

  • @sadel7 Maybe she set him up to be compromised? Flung herself at him in the library and by "accident" someone walked in? :P

  • Guhhhhh, my life is now complete. Alan Rickman and Hugh Laurie in the same room.

  • Thanks you! Great compilation!

  • That movie had so many unknowns in it.

  • He is hilarious in this movie and actually steals the show! Thanks for posting!

  • "I just can't believe it's that far!"

    "Try!" XD

  • lol, i like Mr Palmeer, annoyed about everything

  • Did anyone else kind of hope that Mr. Palmer could've married Elinor? I felt an attraction there!

  • Loved Hugh Laurie in this. Ha Ha. Very funny.

  • hahahaha classic

  • I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MR. PALMER!!! hE'S SO DRY!! bRILLIANT PERFORMANCE BY HUGH!! i JUST THE JUXTAPOSITION BETWEEN THE BUBBLY, GIGGLY, SLIGHTLY ANNOYING AND FRIVOLOUS MRS PALMER AND THE DRY, SERIOUS, YET KIND MR. PALMER!! tHEY MAKE THE PEFECT COUPLE!

  • 1:21 is the funniest part imo

  • @Caite33 haha, i always split my side trying to keep in my laughter at that part!

  • 0:38 It's Aunt Agatha! So I guess Bertie was finally forced into marriage by his aunt, and so lost his usually cheerful demeanor. lol

  • at 1.06 TRY :)

Imelda Staunton played Hugh's wife in another movie, Peter's friends, with Stephen Fry, Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson. Very good movie!

  • Awesome! Hugh Laurie is perfect...preparing for his House role haha...love the sarcasm.

    P.S. ahhh it's Umbridge!!! :S

  • Thanks so much for this!!! I thought I was the only one who always looked forward Mr. Palmer's sarcastic sense of humor among all the S&S romance and drama and all that silliness from the Jennings.

  • This was a good movie.. no wonder hugh is so good at playing house. Very talented man.

  • @ZeroTolerance4BS I'm just getting into the show "House" and am always amazed by Laurie's accent. Such a good actor, and hilarious in Sense and Sensibility as Mr. Palmer.

  • I love his performance as Mr. Palmer - so hilarious!

  • it's professor snape, trelawney, dolores umbridge and house - all in one film. Great cast.

  • @BlueOwl124 hehe wow i did not know that

  • @BlueOwl124 YESSSS my thoughts exactly :)

  • 0:36-7 is my favorite line ever! :)

  • I love his dry sense of delivering his lines:)

  • I love how England has so few well know actors that half the cast of the harry potter movies are in this movie alone!lol

  • he is PERFECT in this role. mr laurie, what a pro.

  • I love the baby scene, especially because Alan Rickman is there too.

  • Something tells me the guys who made House were totally watching this movie when creating the titular character.

  • "And his papa has such a way with him!" Haha! This movie was my first exposure to Laurie, and I've loved him as Bertie Wooster, various idiotic Georges (in Blackadder) and House ever since!

  • ITS DR HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hahahahahah!!!!!

  • Ah, Hugh. You know, its only recently enough i discovered Hugh Laurie, but I've known this film for years now and Mr Palmer has always given me huge laughs when watching. Its even nicer now that I love both character and actor! Is there anything Hugh Laurie cannot do???

  • LOL! House and Dolores Umbridge XD

  • If Hugh Laurie wasn't in USA due to House, I'm sure he would've starred in one of the Harry Potter movies. I think he can only do movies that are filmed in USA...

  • 0:36. I think that was the earlier beginnings of House! lol I love that part.

  • Yes, yes you can say it's House all you like. But really, it's actually the actor playing the role of House. Hugh Laurie is a VERY VERY talented man and it is wrong for you to just connect him with House, although he plays the role spectacularly well, he also does a lot of other things, spectacularly well. So no it is not house. it is HUGH LAURIE. It's wrong for you to assume otherwise :) Go Hugh!

  • Yay it's House! :D

  • No, it's Hugh Laurie!

  • @acegfdb Yeah I know :P

  • Hugh Laurie is hularious!

  • i hated this movie but I love the Hugh Laurie parts. I cracked up at him. He is so SEXY!

  • Comment removed

  • hugh laurie should just star in a harry potter movie and be done with it! he's worked with just about all of them. he might as well.

  • i love seeing HL in movies!!

I rewatched this a few years ago and say HL and said, "holy fuck its House!"

  • Great idea to do tirbute to H.L! Brilliant English actor! I liked him still in Jeeves in Wooster.

    Tnak you!

  • ya know...mr. palmer is great and hl portrays him so well...but imelda staunton does brilliantly also. i love how she keeps her annoying humor no matter how mean he is to her. why is he so mean to her btw?

  • @shows82......... Mr P is so mean to her because ..'' through some unaccountable bias in favour of beauty, he was the husband of a very silly woman...'' - '' a wish for distinction ( from her )...produced his contemptuous treatment..''

    S&S ch 20.

  • i've never said anything so irrational.

Gosh, so he's typecast as a bastard.

  • I wouldn't say so, unless you think Frederick Little was a bastard :-) He used to get typecast as an upper class twit, so it's probably a nice change for him anyway.

  • It's like House: Jane Austen Style. XD

  • ahahahahaha!!! EXACTLY what I thought!! :D LOVE him! :P <3

  • @DowneyAdmirer House and Dolores Umbridge.

  • @DowneyAdmirer Haha, I was half expecting him to don his hospitable garb any moment. XD The same dour, dry tone of a voice. House indeed.

  • Personally it's my Hugh Laurie's favorite character, I dare to say more than House, 'cause it fits him so well! Sophisticated, proud and a bit arrogant. He does the haughty demeanor so particularly well that it sticks in one's mind for a long time, like it did with this movie. Thanks for sharing it! 5 stars for you.

  • Half the cast in this are in Harry Potter as well. I can't help but see them as their characters in HP.

  • Yep. Professors Trelawney, Snape and Umbridge, Minister Cornelius Fudge, Nurse Pomfrey, and Fat Lady #1.

  • Hahaaa he's hysterical!

    "No! i cannot believe it!"

    "Try.."

  • 2:14 is awesome xDDD!

  • HAHA!

Hugh: And what am I supposed to do with this...?

    Alan: Don't look at me...

  • I fucking love him I swear lol.

"You'll do nothing of the sort." heh that made me lol so hard

  • If only they would just let him read his newspaper...

  • Hugh Laurie is a total scene-stealer. I love him XD!

  • Hugh Laurie and Imelda Staunton ...damn those two just go together like peanut butter and jelly. Ditto Hugh and Emma Thompson.

  • Hugh Laurie makes it so you like Mr. Palmer. He's great in this! So funny!!!

  • Lol ^^ great!

  • I wonder if Hugh Laurie was totally hilarious on set. It just kind of seems like having him around would guarantee a fun time.

  • ITA, I bet he's a blast on set-- at least it seems like he would be.

  • I believe one of the ladies in these clips are the actor that plays Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter. I may be wrong though.

  • It is her, the actress is Imelda Staunton she plays Mrs. Palmer in this movie.

  • I ADORE Mr. Palmer!!!! XD

  • Hahahaha! I used to watch this movie all the time when I was younger. I always loved Mr. Palmer. I remember when house first came out, I was like "OH MY GOD IT'S MODERN DAY MR. PALMER!" They have a very similar demeanor, I love it.

P.S. Hugh Laurie and Alan Rickman in the same shot is the best thing ever.

  • xDDDDDDD It happened exactly the same to me. Me and a friend always laughed remembering Mr Palmer and then House began and I was OH MY GODDDD MR PALMER RIGHT THERE!XDDDDDD

  • Oh my god!!

    It is just hilarious!!

I crack up ecery time I see Hugh Laurie in S&S!!

Thank you so much vor that great video!!!

  • Thank you for splicing these together. I love Mr. Palmer in this movie - Hugh Laurie's not in a lot of the movie, but he makes his scenes count.

  • It was a pleasure!:)

You are absolutely right, he's not much in it, but he sticks in your mind! You just have to love Mr Palmer!

"His papa has such a way with him!" His facial expression there - priceless! lol

  • @ShellyQuade i agree, looks like he was practicing as house from young

  • classic! ;)

I always felt sorry for mr palmer having to put up with her, I thought he had such a kind heart. my fave character, especially being played by laurie.

  • so true, poor mr palmer! how on earth did this marriage come about???

  • @LadyViolet7 Are you joking? they're the best couple in that book. The author must take the responsibility of many of my bright joy momments;DDDD . I would like to create fanfic "how on the earth did this marriage came about", like you've said. Too bad J .Austen is allready dead we will never know the true T.T

  • @LadyViolet7.. Mr P married her ''... through some unaccountable bias in favour of beauty...''. S&S ch20. Perhaps if there had been a really beautiful actress playing Mrs Palmer, when watching this movie, we wouldn't have found the marriagesuch a mystery . '' ...this kind of blunder was too common..''' ( also ch 20 )

  • well, actually, in the book is doesn't have a very kind heart. It's his wife who is adorable

  • @Rab379

heh, this is basically my parents' marriage. just this morning, my father was talking happily about a mango tree at his parents' house and asked my mother if it was there when they got married. she answered (sarcastically) that it was. she then mentioned another mango tree on the same land. my father said enthusiastically that he was the one who planted it.

  • @Rab379

... she promptly told him that she had two men cut it down for the road. and then went onto offensive nonsense. and, like mrs palmer, she has no real idea of how this nonsense is felt. it's hard to watch marriages like that, but the Mr Palmers of the world are just too nice.

  • I do wonder how that baby bacame to exist ;D

  • XDDDDD Darkness accidents

  • haha! I love these scenes. Mr. Palmer is the best part of this movie. Hugh Laurie never disappoints!

  • he looks so fed up

  • "If only you would stop." *snorts* OH Mr Palmer!

  • yeah-that`s fantastic. Imelda and Hugh are a dreamteam!

  • "Try." Indeed. Hah hah!

Thank you for posting this--I have to say Emma's S&S is my favorite interpretation. PS: I hope Hugh wasn't like that with his own children. :P

  • My favorite line:

    "I cannot believe it!"

    "Try."

  • LOL I saw this ages ago. Forgot how funny he was. :D

  • the only scences why I got that dvd! :o)

  • love how they think he is so funny when he is cranky...like nobody takes it seriously.
