I had listened to Bill, Red, Ralph, Don and Lester and loved every bit. I didn't think a new band could have the same affect on me until I heard The Bluegrass Albums I and II.
Tony was the most amazing singer. I just saw him at Bean Blossom and it broke my heart when he spoke and could barely get words out. I have to say this though, I have never seen someone's fingers move so quickly over a guitar in my life.
Is that doyle lawson on mando? About his voice, yes, Rice was a gem of a bluegrass singer. Saw him two years ago in Chattanooga, TN with AKUS. Was almost sad to hear the few times he said some words to the audience. As for his picking, WOW! What I appreciate most about his picking is his fearless will to experiement in his live breaks; to make what seems like mistakes, and compensate, recover and knock it out of the park time and again, just when the listener might think it is falling apart.

Tony was a phenomenon back then. There just wasn't anyone else who could pick a guitar like he could, with such power and style.
