  • @Dblast1234 , You didn't get the 60hz joke. A hint: it has something to do with the refresh rate of e-ink and turning pages.

  • @Dblast1234 , the people you are talking about watch videos instead of reading. That's why LCD/LED with 60hz suits them. Only few of us read pages 60hz and hence an e-ink device better for reading.

  • irex is really cool product but it is so expensive, what is the battery duration of it ?

  • i want one !!!!!

  • yeah people have lots of money to spend... This is WAY too expensive for what you get. If they want it to work, it should be sold under 100$, especially when people can buy decent laptops for under 700$ these days. Why spend 600$ on this???

  • yep indeed, but the prices will drop...

  • yea you can even buy 2 pandoras with this much money

  • Because these things work in full glaring daylight, don't cause eyestrain and last incredibly long on 1 charge. i don't mean like 5-10 hours but actually days. i've once had it last about a week. no laptop does that, even with standby and whatnot.

It's not the processor and such that's expensive, it's the screen type.

  • If only to have the money for the Iliad... the Sony 505 is faster than the 500, and ultimately more affordable.

  • Simple and useful video. Thanks millOr

  • looks like sony got pwned again on the smart market, im embarrassed to have ever liked their stuff

  • it looks like the iliad has more contrast and is also faster

  • The 505 is faster than the 500, but either way you're only turning the page every 30 seconds or so if you're on large-text (every minute or two on medium/small): it doesn't take much difference to turning the page, and I find it's useful to "let you know" it's a new page. It's more distinctive.

I have the Sony, just because it's cheaper and smaller - portable was the word of choice: it's the same size as a large paperback/small hardback.

  • not really

  • mmafan35 wishes he had a ban hammer

  • till us more about the 2

  • Hey we are in the same boat. i paid for the irex iliad on 20th Oct, they kept saying they will send me but they didn't and now i'm asking for refund, they say they will but they are ignoring me. You know, perhaps we should join up and send a complain to the dutch authorities, they have a legal body to handle such issues.

never going to buy an irex, company feels so fraudulently.

  • should be noted that the iliad 's been compared to Sony's PRS-500.

Their newer PRS-505 might be a bit faster, and the screen is more white.

  • yeah, yeah, XP was just a picture, fake for fools like you :)

And by the way Linux here gives nothing :) You can only synchronize it with your books, thats all. Even cheap devices like lbook have Linux, but you can not even install new software.

  • thats not true. Iliad publish an SDK, and you can put new software on the Iliad linux device.

Someones written a sudoko app and Im know there are many other applications

  • If I wanted a bulky reason to need a backpack, everywhere I go... Well, hell I've already got a laptop. lol I thought the idea of an e-reader was to be compact and void of excessive gadget features. I think I'll get the sony.

  • Does the iLiad feature a book-turning mimic sound? How sad. Totally not necessary.

  • What's the point? Oh, the Illiad is 1/5th of a second faster between page transitions? I don't care about that -- I do know that I don't want to carry around a big dictionary looking device that can't fit in my purse.

  • Yeah. Hurry to the shop and get yourself a 3-in device.

  • No doubt that Iliad is the best..but also the most expensive

  • Sony is sleek...and half the price. I really like e-ink screens, regardless of the device. But the Sony has a simple interface, nice cover, and works perfectly for how I use it.

  • Sony got pwnd ^^

  • Well, the Iliad is twice the price and huge...so I doubt Sony users feel too bad about this comparison.

  • Yeah but notice in the vid all that is shown is comic strip pics not a book... I think the bigger screen will be better for reading an ebook, which is what I want one for. I am realling waiting on the Kindle to come over to Europe though. I think Amazon's device and support will cinch it for me.

  • r this things bad 4 your eyes like the tv. cause i want to get one if it doesnt damage your eyes.

  • hey dude, not being gay, try it

  • thanks

  • hey,

I am interested in buying one of the devices:

Can you post one video that shows the same real sizes? Because I know that sony readers display is smaller and it won't be fair judging it against a bigger display, so if you can post one at least sony readers in horizontal view against normal view of the iliad it would be cool!

  • Nice!

Thanks for putting this up. It looks like the Illiad has been sped up with several factors. It used to take several seconds to refresh a page. No it's much quicker and isn't rage inducing anymore.
