how to make ubuntu look like everything that comes from microsoft - crap..
No offence to uploader, the tutorial is nicely made. But unless you would have to choose from unity and this, you should probably leave the default or find a more productive UI like gnome 3.
omg nobody wont that unbuntu luck like windows windows is gay and looks like shit ubntu looks god and if you want a look like windows than use windows and not ubuntu !!!!!!!!!!!!
I can understand doing it for business moving to ubuntu from windows 7, but when a printer needs to be installed this is when they will panic and scream at you. :), I would say if you are going to introduce ubuntu, then introduce it as its is, its much easier than fooling people.
@USAFZebra3 ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID?!?! dude if it wasnt for windows 1995 we wouldnt have mac os, if it wasnt for windows we would most likely still be running DOS DUMBASS 12 YR OLD
@bboywhiteboyzz Before you call someone stupid, atleast know WTF you're talking about. If it wasn't for Unix we probably wouldn't have ANY of it. Windows is NOT an innovator. Microsoft are nothing but thieves who got great OEM partnership deals which is THE ONLY reason windows dominates the pc. They use the same tactics as Apple "we did it first, nevermind all of the other open source technology we used without even mentioning"
@TheCikbulan you can install Virtual box and install windows in it, It won't be as fast as using windows directly but it should run most applications (Using mathcad 14 and all office software without a problem).
In my Ubuntu 11.04, it works perfectly, thanks. Download the GnoMenu and Install in your computer. Change the root password. In the Ubuntu 11.04, the normal instalation didn't install totally the Win7 Theme. So, use the Turbo Instalation. =)
after i ran the setup, nothing happened. i did not get the windows theme, so i still have the tabs on the left side of my screen. do you know what the problem is?
I just installed Ubuntu 11.04, logged in using the Ubuntu Classic desktop, the About GNOME shows 2.32.1 and I downloaded Win2-7 version 6.5. However, the install fails because it cannot detect the GNOME Desktop Environment. It tries to continue but also fails on "gvfs-bin" saying it is required to modify and update metadata. Oh well, it was worth a shot.
@lhammonds Yes, I know. Ubuntu has become reluctant to customization now, because of the New Unity interface. They made it too standard and default; Like Linux and Mac, Plus Windows.
We just have to stick to the new looks and future of Linux.
@MicroHelper, Just so you know, I was able to get it to install or at least get past that particular error. Ubuntu did not like a particular subnet I was using and could not detect the Internet 100% of the time....kind of hit or miss every second. But anyways, there is no menu for it and that pretty-much kills the attempt to make it look like Win7 so I removed it. And like you said, just gotta accept the look...even though I was hoping to make the transition easier for my users.
@waqasahmed939 believe it or not you can switch to ubuntu classic on the log on screen it reverts to gnome (you might already know that) but wouldnt think about upgrading because there thinking about removing that option and keeping unity but that is only if you want to keep the windows look
Nice Video. One important question : will this also make ubuntu slow and consume more RAM like windows. One important reason why I migrated from windows to linux was the speed.[I am a newbie in Ubuntu by the way]
Nice tutorial, MicroHelper....wouldn't do it to mine, but it's cool to see it can be done....I'm a PC repair tech here in PR and people here have a hard time with alternative OS's....this can be used to smoothly transition to Linux....Thanks!
@W32Code I'm watching this to see how far someone can go far. Unix is for most people that using it like religion. So this is sacrilege.
Ok. Some people can't afford win7, Ubuntu will not help them. Windows is not just icons, menus and other pointless stuff. It's a whole operating system. So it's pity to waist the time to making windows look. Lot of time spoken theme on many unix forums - you can't make windows of the unix or vice verse.
for somebody in your family that WANTS his windows and always filling up his pc with malwares. May be a smooth transition to linux.. I won't do that for me but to convert some people to linux..
@GAMERSHARK100 unfortunately not anymore :( ubuntu 11.10 forces you to use unity now, bad direction for ubuntu to take, but atleast we still have kubuntu.
what linux user wants there linux to look like windows?

can we install windows software apps by using this method?
TheCikbulan 4 months ago
@TheCikbulan I'm sorry, you can't. This is just a visual feature, not a compatible feature.
You can try using "Wine." Although, it isn't very great with my opinion. It's quite complicated to use, but takes time to master.

@TheCikbulan you can use w.i.n.e. (it stands for windows is not everything or wine is not an emulator)

Not entirely the same with Ubuntu 11.04. I'm assuming this is due to the new GUI but it still looks pretty damn good

@sonaiitm Nope, it won't slow down Ubuntu. Trust me.
Because Ubuntu made it free to be customized easily.
While one windows. Some other company, or hacker; edits it. And makes Windows unstable and slow.
Trust me, it won't slow it down. Plus: You have the ability to uninstall it any time (:

Just to let people know, this works on Linux Mint 10 also. Thanks for the vid and the link to the software. It all worked just as stated in vid.
I'm using Mint in a virtual machine on my main comp at the mo so i ran the uninstaller to try it and that worked fine too.
When i get a second machine i will be installing Mint permanently and will definately be installing this Theme pack.
Thanks again my friend!

@W32Code So many comments against Windows...
If people cannot afford Windows 7. They will have the opportunity from this video and files provided. WITH their choice to customize Ubuntu.
Remember how many Linux Users say that Ubuntu's Customizable? Let it be.
Quit mentioning these arguments! I keep getting comments on these sorts of tutorials.
Then why are you watching this video? Just to bash Windows? ><
