  • what linux user wants there linux to look like windows?

  • I have both windows 7 and ubuntu on my Hard Disk. ubuntu For MC and Widnows 7 for CoD. ;D

  • RIP Megaupload.

  • Is there a new download link now that Megaupload is getting effed in the a?

  • Dude Megaupload is closed!

  • @xFLYBATx Dude what do you expect him to do about it?

  • @JoergWessels Rehost the file.

  • @xFLYBATx Because you demand it?

  • Why would any one want win2-7 I like ambiance and human.

  • i got it working

  • dont work i dont have password

  • you could give this out become famus for it what zorin os 5 did it the same thing all you need to do is make an installer for it

  • how to make ubuntu look like everything that comes from microsoft - crap..

No offence to uploader, the tutorial is nicely made. But unless you would have to choose from unity and this, you should probably leave the default or find a more productive UI like gnome 3.

  • Why to manage Linux as Windows?!

  • omg nobody wont that unbuntu luck like windows windows is gay and looks like shit ubntu looks god and if you want a look like windows than use windows and not ubuntu !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great video, thanks for all the time you spent to tutorial this, as I enjoyed watching. :)

  • I can understand doing it for business moving to ubuntu from windows 7, but when a printer needs to be installed this is when they will panic and scream at you. :), I would say if you are going to introduce ubuntu, then introduce it as its is, its much easier than fooling people.

  • Why Someone want linux look like Windows ???!??!?!?!

His is just fucking stupid !!!!!!

Windows is the most useless PC system !!!!!!!

  • @USAFZebra3 ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID?!?! dude if it wasnt for windows 1995 we wouldnt have mac os, if it wasnt for windows we would most likely still be running DOS DUMBASS 12 YR OLD

  • @bboywhiteboyzz Before you call someone stupid, atleast know WTF you're talking about. If it wasn't for Unix we probably wouldn't have ANY of it. Windows is NOT an innovator. Microsoft are nothing but thieves who got great OEM partnership deals which is THE ONLY reason windows dominates the pc. They use the same tactics as Apple "we did it first, nevermind all of the other open source technology we used without even mentioning"

  • great video. Microsoft should fix their os that way :P

  • can we install windows software apps by using this method?

  • @TheCikbulan I'm sorry, you can't. This is just a visual feature, not a compatible feature.

You can try using "Wine." Although, it isn't very great with my opinion. It's quite complicated to use, but takes time to master.

  • @TheCikbulan you can install Virtual box and install windows in it, It won't be as fast as using windows directly but it should run most applications (Using mathcad 14 and all office software without a problem).

  • @TheCikbulan you can use w.i.n.e. (it stands for windows is not everything or wine is not an emulator)

  • Comment removed

  • @TheCikbulan hahahaha

  • In my Ubuntu 11.04, it works perfectly, thanks. Download the GnoMenu and Install in your computer. Change the root password. In the Ubuntu 11.04, the normal instalation didn't install totally the Win7 Theme. So, use the Turbo Instalation. =)

  • what did you use to record the video

  • Very nice video, but I wont change my wonderful ubuntu look :D

  • Yeah....Pointless. If you want windows, stay on windows.

  • Thank you Mr uploader Working nice...

  • Mine never gets past wine install

  • @StevenJordanGaming If you're using Ubuntu 11.04 and above. This method won't be working.

  • @MicroHelper Dang you fast!

  • @MicroHelper I fixed this i installed 10

  • @MicroHelper It Will. There is still a classic enviroment. You just need to set it to start to it

  • after i ran the setup, nothing happened. i did not get the windows theme, so i still have the tabs on the left side of my screen. do you know what the problem is?

  • @philsmoviesinc thanks a bunch ^_^

  • i'm sorry if this may be a noon question but does the win7 command prompt work on this or will it still be the terminal or both?

  • @hanzonproject It will still be the terminal from ubuntu

  • im having a problem with my start menu its like glitching and i cant u the search bar. can u help me out?

  • @harodude666 Firstly: Which version of Ubuntu are you using? 10.10?

11.04 doesn't really work well with all the old customization options you could do before.

  • @MicroHelper i think its 11.04 but im not quite sure

  • @harodude666 Do you have Big Icons on the left side of your screen? If so, that's Ubuntu 11.04 running Unity.

  • @MicroHelper like desktop icons or in the start menu

  • @harodude666 Hm... This issue had a occurred with the Vista transformation pack for Ubuntu.

Here, I'll send you the video through a Message on YouTube.

  • @MicroHelper i having the same issue please help.

  • can i only install the windows 7 fonts?

  • can you upload it on mediafire for me pls! or someone if done pls p.s me :)

  • help i cannot open open megaupload it says could not find megaupload pls help

  • im running ubuntu 11.04 and its been stuck on installing wine for almost an hour...what gives?

  • @piehole1234 mee tooo...

  • Cool, but why the hell would you want windows 7?

  • I just installed Ubuntu 11.04, logged in using the Ubuntu Classic desktop, the About GNOME shows 2.32.1 and I downloaded Win2-7 version 6.5. However, the install fails because it cannot detect the GNOME Desktop Environment. It tries to continue but also fails on "gvfs-bin" saying it is required to modify and update metadata. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

  • @lhammonds Yes, I know. Ubuntu has become reluctant to customization now, because of the New Unity interface. They made it too standard and default; Like Linux and Mac, Plus Windows.

We just have to stick to the new looks and future of Linux.

  • @MicroHelper, Just so you know, I was able to get it to install or at least get past that particular error. Ubuntu did not like a particular subnet I was using and could not detect the Internet 100% of the time....kind of hit or miss every second. But anyways, there is no menu for it and that pretty-much kills the attempt to make it look like Win7 so I removed it. And like you said, just gotta accept the look...even though I was hoping to make the transition easier for my users.

  • this gives so many errors and doesn't even look right in 11.04

:( what is the latest version of ubuntu that i can use that will give me no errors (or at least no fatal errors)

    please respond

  • Not entirely the same with Ubuntu 11.04. I'm assuming this is due to the new GUI but it still looks pretty damn good

  • @waqasahmed939 believe it or not you can switch to ubuntu classic on the log on screen it reverts to gnome (you might already know that) but wouldnt think about upgrading because there thinking about removing that option and keeping unity but that is only if you want to keep the windows look

  • @faz139

Oh yes, I do know you can do that. Any way, I've moved to KDE and out of the box, it does pretty much look like Win 7

  • Nice Video. One important question : will this also make ubuntu slow and consume more RAM like windows. One important reason why I migrated from windows to linux was the speed.[I am a newbie in Ubuntu by the way]

  • @sonaiitm Nope, it won't slow down Ubuntu. Trust me.

Because Ubuntu made it free to be customized easily.

While one windows. Some other company, or hacker; edits it. And makes Windows unstable and slow.

Trust me, it won't slow it down. Plus: You have the ability to uninstall it any time (:

  • @MicroHelper Thank you for quick reply.I will definetly try it

  • Which program you use to make this video?

  • @rankoist GTK Record my desktop for Screencasting.

And Audacity for Audio Recording because GTK doesn't work well with the audio recording.

  • Nice tutorial, MicroHelper....wouldn't do it to mine, but it's cool to see it can be done....I'm a PC repair tech here in PR and people here have a hard time with alternative OS's....this can be used to smoothly transition to Linux....Thanks!

  • Just to let people know, this works on Linux Mint 10 also. Thanks for the vid and the link to the software. It all worked just as stated in vid.

I'm using Mint in a virtual machine on my main comp at the mo so i ran the uninstaller to try it and that worked fine too.

When i get a second machine i will be installing Mint permanently and will definately be installing this Theme pack.

    Thanks again my friend!

  • Wow, this is fucking retarded.

  • @SolomonKull Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • why would anyone make something that looks good, too look like crap...

    I don't get it.

(plus if you had to change themes, then chose one of the millions of good themes out there)

  • @W32Code So many comments against Windows...

If people cannot afford Windows 7. They will have the opportunity from this video and files provided. WITH their choice to customize Ubuntu.

Remember how many Linux Users say that Ubuntu's Customizable? Let it be.

Quit mentioning these arguments! I keep getting comments on these sorts of tutorials.

Then why are you watching this video? Just to bash Windows? ><

  • @W32Code I'm watching this to see how far someone can go far. Unix is for most people that using it like religion. So this is sacrilege.

Ok. Some people can't afford win7, Ubuntu will not help them. Windows is not just icons, menus and other pointless stuff. It's a whole operating system. So it's pity to waist the time to making windows look. Lot of time spoken theme on many unix forums - you can't make windows of the unix or vice verse.

  • why would you want to change how Ubuntu looks!

    it alredy looks freeking awesome!

  • Yeah I don't get the look like windows trend if I wanted my Linux desktop to look like windows I be running windows! @GAMERSHARK100

  • @TheRanblingjohnny

for somebody in your family that WANTS his windows and always filling up his pc with malwares. May be a smooth transition to linux.. I won't do that for me but to convert some people to linux..

  • @GAMERSHARK100 some people struggle with a new UI (mostly old people and retards)

  • @GAMERSHARK100 Looks freakin depressive by default though...

  • @Estonian7 Amen.

  • @GAMERSHARK100 some of us are just use to windows

  • @GAMERSHARK100 I just don't really like the Ubuntu 11.04 look. Then, OpenBox && a couple of programs can do the job fairly easily ;)

  • @GAMERSHARK100 unfortunately not anymore :( ubuntu 11.10 forces you to use unity now, bad direction for ubuntu to take, but atleast we still have kubuntu.

  • @rich1051414 itl be debian from now on :( who uses unity , cmon thats just awfull ......

  • @GAMERSHARK100 I want to make Windows 7 look like Ubuntu

  • Ok ! LOL

  • Nice Tutorial!!! (Y)
