Natural selection does not supply one with more "Information," gene duplication and mutation do. Natural selection is the ecological reason certain genetic traits survive and others die out. It does not affect how genes mutate in the first place.
Also, students shouldn't be allowed to say whether or not something is plausible, they have not spent years even decades studying, testing, and obtaining all relevant information.
@TheLaunchingPad Yes, creationists say silly stuff like, ''If we came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?'' It shows a complete lack of understanding of how evolution works.
@gregrutz -huh? Missread my comment obviously. Reason, Observation, and Experience - is the Holy Trinity of Science, correct. So here is truth...Reason: it is possible that there is intelligent life that may have advanced to godlike status, Observation: we have thousands of records of ET's throughout history. and Experience: We are manipulating life right now, even the genetic material of man. So you, my friend, are blind. The new man will be created by old man and you still doubt Gods exist?
@gregrutz -You are so close-minded. Look beyond science and the tiny planet you dwell on. You want evidence but are unwilling to look for it so you ask me to look for you, I have, they exist. Actually, you are so cowardly that you never believe anything out of the ordinary. You say, it can all be explained by science, but science is only limited by closed minds like yours. Science makes mistakes, end of story. Most early scientists were killed by your same line of thought or lack thereof.
@TheLaunchingPad First off, I'm sorry for the delay, I had only come across this video today. Science does make mistakes, but through repeated experimentation and observation; it corrects itself. Unlike faith... Tim Minchin put it best when he said, "Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed
Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved."
Also "Early scientists," were either not killed, or they were killed by closed minded power-hungry bigots.
@Jonstern1983 - I don't recall our discussion. Here's something to chew on... Religion is the great grandfather of science, it was bad science most definitely but it was all man had to help them understand the world. This modern day science is exactly the same. Just a few hundred years ago we didn't even know there were organisms crawling inside our flesh. Now we know and still play the know it all, denying demons or gods while we stare into the dark matter and micro-cosm of the unexplained :)
@TheLaunchingPad I meant from the time you posted. The simple fact is, science explains things that actually exist. The only things that are known to exist are things that can be proven to exist, therefore science is completely agnostic about gods. As for demons, we know that, unlike what the bible says, demons do not cause disease because we have proven what causes disease. Granted many, indeed most scientists are atheists, but that is simply because gods have not been proven to exist.
@permanentrecordsvids Science is the method of discovering how reality works. Religion is a set of beliefs that have always ignored the possibility that they can be disproved. Where is the secular account of Jesus' resurrection? The fact is that the bible is probably as accurate as Spider-man. It is scientifically more probable that a man could get a retrovirus that could give them enhanced abilities, than a man get up, and having no loss of abilities after being dead for 3 days.
@Jonstern1983 - Science is the best thing that could ever happen because it makes life easier. I ain't knocking it, just hoping that it would keep an open mind. Science merely proved demons exist and are viral and cause an infestation proving it was not in the mind only. Then they will prove that Jesus could rise from death when they see the 2 witnesses. They are working on stuff that makes them like Gods themselves. They clone & make living cells and still deny that someone beat us to it. Proof
@gregrutz -All scientists believe in the possibility of Intelligent life too. But they are too close minded to believe in a God(s). Isn't every planet plagued with the power struggle of the warlords or stronger species who, through force, make slaves of lower forms to do their will. And their will is to explore space and dominate or populate planets. They even left their mark everywhere and we still deny them saying we are unique because of evolution, BS! Monkeys are brothers, not mothers.
Athiest's are more close minded fanatic's than the creationist's they constantly slander, no wonder america's going down the drain with these Athiest's inforcing their religion's propaganda, sad...
i question evolution. that is why i studied on my own many things about it. know i know a lot about it, i know how it works on a molecular level, how we witness it, what various fields of science have shown it to be true and how they have shown it to be true. i know of obscure lab experiments that verify it and have actual examples to show "gains in information", "speciation", and many other things that creationists say are impossible. i questioned evolution and it gave me answers.
It's important to think in terms of evolution and Darwinian evolution. If you can't make a distinction then you need to learn more about science. If you think this is purely a non-critical religious bigotry then you need to learn more about religion.
Aha but the last sentence changed my view. He questions certain things in evolution, I do aswell. If he does not believe in evolution, he must have an idea of how life came to be then, I'd love to hear it if it's not religious based since I heard enough about that. He's correct we should question and WE DO question. This however doesn't mean creation IS right.
you clowns have been chanting this mantra for decades. it's not going to happen. it is a sound scientific theory and no amount of babbling from religious fanatics is going to stop the progress that's been made.
I remember in anthropology class in college when I 1st read about "punctuated equilibrium". I wasn't as skeptical of evolution back then, because I was brought up on it. But when I read about punctuated equilibrium, I almost burst out laughing. They tried to explain the lack of transitional forms by saying that perhaps evolution occurred in bursts. Then they said it must've been cause by catastrophes... not because they saw evidence of catastrophes but because they needed to prop up evolution.
im so sick of evolution being taught as fact. I remember when i was in highschool and it use to piss me off so much because it was taught as fact and when u disagreed you were either stupid, or a bible nut. Evolution is stupid and trying to teach it as fact is stupid. its a flawed theory and because of this shouldnt be taught as fact. and since its a theory, there should be another option right? So if you think this theory is untrue, what do you say to your teacher?
It's wrong to teach evolution as fact cause It's a theory... And theories are based on facts ;P An you can't disproove evolution cause evolution is what's happening. In microbiology you can actually witness it in lifetime.
I find this a very interesting and debatable subject. At least 2 of my professors teach against Darwin's theories. For example the theory of natural selection. If natural selection were true and the way Darwin wanted it our planet would be filled with white males as the superiors and other races and women would be the slaves of them.
Oh I know this. Its called social Darwinism. This was not a theory but a philosophy used by the fat cats of the industrial revolution to justify screwing their workers over. Perhaps you should educated yourself a bit more on the subject. Our country employs tons of foreign scientists. Why is that? We refuse to learn proper science.
well, lets debate then :) the statement that you make is not a reference to Darwins' theory of natural selection. It is a concept that is commonly known as social Darwinism which is an interpretation of his theory of natural selection to which al species of life are subject to. the term is an extension of Darwins theory and was poularized in 1944.
And exactly which institution do these so-called "Professor" types teach? Some lamewad pseudo-college like Southern Baptist University, or another equally dubious institution? You all need to stop telling lies for Jesus, and wake up to yourselves.
Intelligent Design is not science. It doesn't follow the scientific method. It makes no predictions that can be verified through experiment. It cannot be falsified. There is no evidence for it. No significant scientific research is or can be done on it. I could go on and on.
Intelligent Design is Creationism and has no place in our schools.
Your thinly veiled attempt to promote your religion without even mentioning it is sad and pathetic.
So Roger DeHart is saying that we shouldn't learn parrot fashion, regurgitate facts, and that its good to question previously accepted wisdom.
This means that you shouldn't be afraid to ask tough searching questions of either science or religion, and they shouldn't be afraid to answer them.
