So Roger DeHart is saying that we shouldn't learn parrot fashion, regurgitate facts, and that its good to question previously accepted wisdom.

This means that you shouldn't be afraid to ask tough searching questions of either science or religion, and they shouldn't be afraid to answer them.

Natural selection does not supply one with more "Information," gene duplication and mutation do. Natural selection is the ecological reason certain genetic traits survive and others die out. It does not affect how genes mutate in the first place.

Also, students shouldn't be allowed to say whether or not something is plausible, they have not spent years even decades studying, testing, and obtaining all relevant information.

@TheLaunchingPad First off, I'm sorry for the delay, I had only come across this video today. Science does make mistakes, but through repeated experimentation and observation; it corrects itself. Unlike faith... Tim Minchin put it best when he said, "Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed

Faith is the denial of observation so that Belief can be preserved."

Also "Early scientists," were either not killed, or they were killed by closed minded power-hungry bigots.

Religion is the great grandfather of science, it was bad science most definitely but it was all man had to help them understand the world. This modern day science is exactly the same. Just a few hundred years ago we didn't even know there were organisms crawling inside our flesh. Now we know and still play the know it all, denying demons or gods while we stare into the dark matter and micro-cosm of the unexplained :)

@TheLaunchingPad I meant from the time you posted. The simple fact is, science explains things that actually exist. The only things that are known to exist are things that can be proven to exist, therefore science is completely agnostic about gods. As for demons, we know that, unlike what the bible says, demons do not cause disease because we have proven what causes disease.  Granted many, indeed most scientists are atheists, but that is simply because gods have not been proven to exist.

Where is the secular account of Jesus' resurrection? The fact is that the bible is probably as accurate as Spider-man. It is scientifically more probable that a man could get a retrovirus that could give them enhanced abilities, than a man get up, and having no loss of abilities after being dead for 3 days.

i question evolution. that is why i studied on my own many things about it. know i know a lot about it, i know how it works on a molecular level, how we witness it, what various fields of science have shown it to be true and how they have shown it to be true. i know of obscure lab experiments that verify it and have actual examples to show "gains in information", "speciation", and many other things that creationists say are impossible. i questioned evolution and it gave me answers.

It's important to think in terms of evolution and Darwinian evolution. If you can't make a distinction then you need to learn more about science. If you think this is purely a non-critical religious bigotry then you need to learn more about religion.

Aha but the last sentence changed my view. He questions certain things in evolution, I do aswell. If he does not believe in evolution, he must have an idea of how life came to be then, I'd love to hear it if it's not religious based since I heard enough about that. I remember in anthropology class in college when I 1st read about "punctuated equilibrium". I wasn't as skeptical of evolution back then, because I was brought up on it. But when I read about punctuated equilibrium, I almost burst out laughing. They tried to explain the lack of transitional forms by saying that perhaps evolution occurred in bursts. Then they said it must've been cause by catastrophes... not because they saw evidence of catastrophes but because they needed to prop up evolution.

I remember when i was in highschool and it use to piss me off so much because it was taught as fact and when u disagreed you were either stupid, or a bible nut. It's wrong to teach evolution as fact cause It's a theory... And theories are based on facts ;P An you can't disproove evolution cause evolution is what's happening. In microbiology you can actually witness it in lifetime.

I find this a very interesting and debatable subject. At least 2 of my professors teach against Darwin's theories. For example the theory of natural selection. If natural selection were true and the way Darwin wanted it our planet would be filled with white males as the superiors and other races and women would be the slaves of them.

well, lets debate then :) the statement that you make is not a reference to Darwins' theory of natural selection. It is a concept that is commonly known as social Darwinism which is an interpretation of his theory of natural selection to which al species of life are subject to. the term is an extension of Darwins theory and was poularized in 1944.

Intelligent Design is not science. It doesn't follow the scientific method. It makes no predictions that can be verified through experiment. It cannot be falsified. There is no evidence for it. No significant scientific research is or can be done on it. I could go on and on.
