  • Yes... all in the name of research which explains the Japanese efforts to kill whales. But besides from that... Tautogs are very slow growing fish but by the looks of this specimen it appears it's been tanked for most of it's life due to it's shape and coloring.

  • freshwater wrasse

  • @lizardsrulz33 Negative. Tautog or Blackfish. Saltwater member of the wrasse family found in temperate waters.

  • @ aimfortheteeth Tog are members of the wrasse family

  • NO wonder I cant catch these blackfish and tautog using a whole crab on a hook.. they dont swallow whole.. they bull them legs first and im tricked to believe its hooked.

  • @loh1110

I dunno... I catch them on 1 crab all the time! Use Asian crabs like the ones here and you should be A-O-Kay! This Tog is kinda small... Does the University know about the possesion regulations?

  • @webmoss A university using the fish for scientific research does not need to follow recreational fishing limits. This tog may not even have come from the wild.

  • I pet a tautog at the aquarium in Wood's Hole, MA. It was so soft and smooth. :)

  • I prefer larger crab myself

  • nice wrasse

  • @saltycreefer not a wrasse. doesn't even look like one

  • Cool! check out: ATTACK OF THE KILLER SCUP/TOG!!!

  • That's how they feed when they hit my hook... Interesting... I can see why it makes sense to cut off the legs and claws.

  • very cool! really cool to see them eating.

  • cool I didn't know you can keep them alive in a tank?
