  • beautiful job for your first time

  • Haha, I'm also saving up for a Canon Hv30 :D

  • the tracking is not spot on, and in the future ALWAYS make sure you film with manual exposure. Also, if you use Autofocus then you need to keyframe some blurring on that model to compensate. The model too needs some motion blur to sell the illusion. But make sure you don't add any more blur to the footage.

  • I use Blender 3D and After Effects they are both great programs

  • Wow, I refuse to believe this is your first ever composite. It's too good ;]

  • Holy, first time! wow, very well done =)

  • @JonathanHoleton haha, cheers! needless to say I've improved now though :)

  • WOAH!! that actually looks real.

  • I'm trying to do this, and if you could help me it would mean a lot.

You know how the tripods feet are behind the buildings? How did you do that? I've managed to sort of do it through masking, but because my camera is moving the mask keeps moving. And i don;t want to have to correct it every frame, so is there an easier way to get the mask to stick to the buildings, motion track them maybe?

    Thanks.

  • I'm going by memory because i haven't done this for a while...but... what u wanna do is motion track the footage, append the motion data to a null object, then parent your picture/video of the tripod to the null object. that way if u mask the tripod the mask will move with the footage because the mask is child to the footage and the footage is child to the null object. And of course the null moves with the footage.... if that makes sense? lol :D

  • Yeah makes perfect sense. I figured it out but thanks a lot anyway :) I was masking the video footage instead of the tripod (It wasn't actually a tripod, but whatever :D)

    Trial and error :)

  • Great job on the video, by the way.

  • no problem :) and thanks :D

  • @CrazyFretz EPIC P ;D

  • @adamhully just motion track the object your masking and then parent the mask to the null object :)

  • i really would love to start doing this i have blender but i cant rig very well :(

  • I used after effects to stick this together :) the tripod is actually an image. but if i was to do this now i'd have it an animated 3d model tracked with boujou

  • go cam i use it too

  • haha that tripod has cellulite xD

  • okay...

When ou say, "PSP" camera...are you referring to the lil video game system? If so, this piece ROCKS! It was damn near perfect.

It actually had me scared for a sec.

  • yep the camera for the playstation portable, actually not bad for it's time for a cheap way of shooting video.

goes to show that ya don't need fancy cameras to make something look decent.

    Cheers :D

  • it was good but the tripods have thinner legs

  • The book didn't give the exact measurements. He can interpret it anyway he wants man.

  • was the tripod static? couldnt tell.. good job

  • indeed it was... although now i have the know how to make it move, so might to a mini film soon... dunno lol

  • that looks so real scary!!!!!

  • Pretty good but make it more clear 2 c

  • nice composite. it 'stuck' really well. would have been awesome if you could've gotten some movement...

nice job with the colour grade too...

  • ah thankyou :D

  • yes plz tell me witch website to download

3d animation so i want tripod!

what im on about is i want to see wat modelsn of tripod

  • sure, if the moneys right

  • can i have a test with tripod wars

because i need to track test it

with permission to doet so can anyone help

    plz plz plz reply

  • I dont actually understand what your on about.

  • thankyou very much for advice. I agree on watching anything, even bad films. I'm actually getting into film directing, sfx is a hobby. It's good to see bad films to learn from their mistakes and also from their sfx.

  • Where did you get the footage of the tripod

  • I just took a screenshot from the movie war of the worlds.

  • wtf!? the sounds sounded like somesort of musical instrument!

  • That was wicked! If you would've put together alittle scene where you had people/actors pointing up at the alien and running, that would've really put the cherry on top of that footage.

Confussed on how you composited the alien in the original footage though. I have the Canon Vixia HV30 now and haven't gotten close to that and you used a psp camera!?

Props to you! I need to step my game up a bit.

  • thankyou! yes i agree, people running away from the tripod would have looked cooler but unfortunately all my friends were busy that day haha.

all you need is a program called after effects, there are plenty of places on the internets that have tutorials on how to do this kinda stuff. personally i didnt follow any tutorial to get this, i like faffing around and trial and error until i get something that looks pretty good.

give it a go though, film some footage and mess around with it!

    peace

  • Good test, keep tracking! And whene you get better start using tracking softwares lime Syntheyes or Bonjou...

To improve Youtube quality add &fmt=18 at the end of the movie url ;)

    Byez!

  • thankyou very much, and yes I've just discovered boujou and so I'm going to start testing with it.

  • the original video was better

  • Cool! I search a tutorial for that in AE!

  • wow youtube quality sucks
