  • lol.. yea macbook pro is number one, except for the fact i can get a pc with the same specs thats twice as fast for 500$ less. oh and tablets? yea ok maybe when they install holographic keyboards i'll get one

  • @kag6 A PC with the same specs that is twice as fast? How is that possible LOL. Its a pretty well known fact that Unix based Operating Systems (OS X and Linux) are much more stable and "lighter" than Windows. Windows is an extremely bloated OS and needs ridiculous hardware specs to run smoothy. I won't argue that Macs aren't expensive but when a PC manufacturer makes a computer that is similar to what Apple makes they end up being expensive as well.

  • No Backlit Keyboard, No SD Card..... Get a Macbook Pro.

  • Sony Vaio Ftw

  • I don't know if any other laptop has better battery life then a macbook pro...im not a specs guy I'm a user guy (if it works good for me in real life use then i like it) I'm a college kid who took my macbook pro through 6 hours of classes (note taking, web surfing, etc) with out a charger and got back to my dorm with 30% battery left...the performances is great

  • Macbook pro in every size, all with powerful video card? LOL? If HD3000 is for u powerful....

  • I have the ASUS G53SX, and it is beautiful in every way. Only about $1250 too. I do not regret a single cent.

  • Custom Builds

  • Prime

  • ALienware!?!?!??!?!

  • @izREEPzi alienware is crap and its like 80 pounds its like a all in one more than a laptop try carrying it around all day and you will know what i mean

  • If I was planning on sticking with Windows, then I'd pick up a Windows 8 tablet above a Windows 8 laptop as my portable machine any day. More portable, lighter, etc. However, Apple's iPad is not a Mac-to-go (yet, anyway) so they'll continue to make laptops. & as the vast majority of the market copies Apple, so will they.

  • DESKTOP!

  • Laptops FOREVER!!!

  • VAIO !!

  • I love my HP Envy 17.

  • @mellowcowism I love your mom

  • understood,

    cnet are apple fanboys,

    best mp3: ipod touch

    now best laptop: macbook pro

    very bisaed reviews !

  • @khans620 No they are just better!

  • @XxDEREK925xX they arent! look at price. sony mp3 s are much^100000000 times better in audio quality. ipod is one of the most overrated things in the world

and look at macbook price and what do they really provide!

even steve job's death was overrated!

    fuck apple

  • @khans620 umm..No

  • @XxDEREK925xX huh? u guys buy fings 4 showin off!

apple's logo, very nice, isnit ?

dats it, only logo, nfing else

u guys ever used android, or just screaming "iphone iphone" like girls?

not to argue wif these brainless people, wastin time

  • @khans620

    ... and wasting orthography...

  • @khans620 So i am a brainless person when all you do is post videos on a crappy Nokia phone home screen rotation? Also I own a Galaxy S II. And you have got to be kidding me when you said that some cheap sony mp3 player is better then an iPod. You are not fooling anybody just give up on life!

  • @XxDEREK925xX what? ok, cheap. but a £60-£70 sony sounds much better dan an ipod!

dont believe me? go and check

also u buy an ipod with that much price, tell me what earbuds do u get? and a sony nwz-e464 comes with ex85, much better, much much better dan ur shitty white earphone. go and check price of original ex85/ex82 (loads of fakes are available), compared to £61 for the whole mp3! even a touch 4g (£150 8gb ) doesn't provide a good earphone and good audio quality! mp3 was created for music!

  • @khans620 someone still uses XP

  • is the macbook that good?i think its overrated,i bought toshiba x serries

  • @pandel69

A MacBook just can't be compared to a usual notebook, simple thing.

  • @pandel69 you could say that about any apple product relative to it's competition.

  • @pandel69 Not overrated, underrated. Its like having the power of a desktop in your backpack.

  • Hp is crap, wish it would go away.

  • watching this from my macbook air

  • @BreadForButter Macbook air sucks I had bought one last summer and had to sell it as it didn't have enough power to push out for what I do for school ;( Although I love the mobility of it. Had to resort to a macbook pro.

  • boobsi of her nice ya

  • Freaking overprice -___-

  • LAPTOP

  • Apple freaks..... :(

  • Im buying a samsung laptop :)

  • Title should have been "Top 5 Notebooks you can buy at best buy." Also, biased.

  • got a tablet for Christmas... i dont really use it.. theyre fucking stupid

  • I really feel HP makes such an inferior product. Does anyone agree???

  • LAPTOP!

  • Lenovo thinkpad X61 Tablet PC

  • i'm buying a laptop, the next ivy bridge macbook pros

  • Its real purrrty! HAHAHA Gotta love it!

  • Are these reporters slow; Mac-book Air and Mac-book Pro is in this? I can name at least two notebooks that would come equivalent or better than it. The REAL number one should not be the Mac-book; there are so many laptops that can perform either at the level of or better to any Mac-book. Why not Sony VAIO or even Alien-ware in this list?? I take it that these reporters are quite fond of HP and Mac-book. Yes they may be all well and good but I know plenty of computers that are just as good.

  • A laptop of course for being outside and a desktop at home

  • For the money you spend on any of these you can get a real powerhouse desktop computer to get the job done! Most people use laptops for connecting to the internet, chatting, downloading stuff, movies music and checking mail... Just try and play one of those 3D new games and see what the battery life is like on your laptop...

I'd rather have powerhouse PC and a smartphone for the price of a top level laptop.

  • @Kkunchev Laptops = On the go, Desktop = For the home. I can just say "Try carrying around you desktop computer to class oh wait you still need monitor, keyboard, and mouse" See you are comparing 2 entire different categories of computers.

  • @obscuresword Thank you Captain Obvious :) Anyway, you're looking at this from a student's point of view and to be honest why would you need a desktop computer for your studies when you can have it all on a laptop. I'm just not that into carrying a laptop everywhere because I have all I need distributed and synced between between my android phone and ubuntu desktop.

  • @Kkunchev Exactly but it is not only students who use laptops on the go, but almost every business person in the world uses them as well. Laptops will always be more powerful than a mobile phone, and do a lot more things. And like you said they appeal to different people.

  • shit looking laptops....need more style...come on we are in 2012 now....these look boring as hell

  • @0235798 I agree laptops look so shitty nowadays but that's the price to pay for slave based china manufacturing :(

  • laptop or tablet hmmmmm il take a desc top plz

  • Really? I macbook got 1? I could name 100 that are much better at a significantly lower price. Too bad YouTube wouldn't allow such a lengthy comment.

  • @brianxbang some pc's might be faster and cheaper, but macs are not meant for games, plus when you get a pc, you dont start off with many programs, mac's come preloaded with a ton of software. BTW I also own a linux laptop and HP G7 17" laptop, and to me, MacBook is better than them.

  • @DoctorNubby I'm not hating either. It's really a matter of opinion though. I wasn't really speaking in terms of gaming because I'm not a PC gamer myself.

  • @brianxbang oh good, I really hate the "mac" and "PC" religion.

  • @DoctorNubby Preloaded software = Crap Just saying lol

  • @obscuresword maybe on pc, but not on mac

  • @brianxbang P.S. no hating here

  • laptops all the way

  • HP= worst brand ever

  • @Multiupbored Why's that? i was planning to get a HP Dv6, but whats wrong with HP? :O

  • @AnimeXeta they support is good. But the Dv series is really crap. the cooling system sucks, resulting in melting the video chip, so they need reballing. i had 2 hp laptops thrust me don't buy one. or don't buy the Dv series

  • Loving that grill.

  • the flashier you laptop, the smaller your penis

  • @SteamEngineerBF3 I disrespectfully disagree with you on that one

  • for all you mac haters out there....look who won

  • I cant stant tablets

  • I think that the laptop and tablet markets will merge. Capacitive touch-screen laptops is my guess to be the future.

  • The envy 17 is heavy it 7.4 lbs!!

  • You can tell Cnet is riding Apple's dick hardcore. I don't understand the value of a Mac though, for $700 I can have a PC that performs leagues ahead of a $2000 MacBook Pro....

  • @Pellageristic Macs are cool in every aspect EXCEPT value.

  • @gregslife7 Macs aren't cool.

  • @UraeusAnkhAmon yeah, they actually are pretty cool. On my Macbook Air 13", I have insane battery life, uber-light portability (for school), and a superfast processor. Also, honestly OSX is infinitely better than Windows 7 (no "installing updates x of x" that my mom's PC is always stuck on, no blue screen of death, easier layout and filesystem, you can get Xcode and develop iOS apps, etc).

  • @gregslife7 Macbook Air has 6 hours of batterylife (using minimal performance) while the Asus ZENBOOK has more than 7 hours (using normal performance), and the ZENBOOK is thinner and lighter than the MacBook Air, the ZENBOOK is also faster than the MacBook Air. My PC hasn't had to update since forever, and blue screen of death? The amount of cock-up you will have to do is insane. Windows by the way is a true PC layout, files on Win are much easier to handle, and more program. lang.

  • @UraeusAnkhAmon I get 6 hours on YouTube, 9-10 in Word, etc. And did you notice that I said that we HAVE a PC- a new touchscreen Sony Vaio- and it's crap. System is VERY slow (despite having a faster processor and more RAM than my MacBook Air), gets stuck at "installing updates x of x" about every two weeks, and overall just doesn't work as well. You are right, that Windows has more programming languages, but you can just use Parallels to run the program (I do that for C++ development).

  • @gregslife7 I wasn't talking abot a sony vaio, but ZENBOOK, and just to save you from doing speed tests, it's faster, and as far as I can see, there is no touch screen vaio (laptop). Also you made an unfair comparison: The worst PC can give vs. the best Mac can give, (hence the ZENBOOK comparison). As I noted earlier, my PC doesn't get any updates, only once in a while, just as a side note Mac also get "updates", but they call them patches.

  • @UraeusAnkhAmon it's not a laptop. And I was comparing them because that's what are family has in our house. And I apologize if it was unfair to not compare an average macbook to the BEST the PC has to offer (apparently ZENBOOK).

  • @gregslife7 Actually I was comparing the BEST Macbook Air vs. higher than standard PC (ZENBOOK).

  • @UraeusAnkhAmon you arent cool

  • @TheZsender Why? Is it because I'm not blinded by Apple's bright light of "This is so great", because that seems pretty cool to me.

  • @UraeusAnkhAmon they look cool and mac os x looks cool but when you buy them you realise you made a big mistake

  • @OutRoll You're right, but still why did he say I wasn't cool?

  • Macs are for people who don't know how to use PCs.

  • BEST LAPTOP IS TOSHIBA QOSMIO X770....CHECK IT OUT....NOONE LAPTOP CAN BEAT THIS MACHINE!!!!!

  • Fu*k tablets! Laptops all the way!

  • @cjammer07 Hating on sheep who pay more for a weak laptop would be more to the point

  • tablet

  • You cannot deny that MacBooks are overpriced and that you are paying for the OS it has instead of the hardware. They aren't bad machines, they're just a horrible value.

  • If they make a tablet PC with a memory of 128 GB or more i'd say tablets are the BEST but too bad the highest memory so far 64 GB i'm currently on Galaxy Tab 10.1 i think it's the best so far i haven't used my normal PC since i bought it but still it's no full PC.

  • wtf dude i dont want a macbook pro overpriced man so much the graphic is not even tht good

i would get a sony vaio instead with i7 intel core and with blue ray

  • I like to see normal people talking about my hobby, technology

  • i used no.3, didn't want to buy it

  • No alienware bonkers...

  • you are so annoying!

  • the whole time i was like im gonna kill my self if the macbook pro isnt number one

  • I don't think that the laptop will ever be replaced by the tablet as its really more powerful and better for work but I believe the tablet market will grow and tablets will be more of an ultra-portable play rather than work alternative

  • Lollolololllolol a MacBook at number 1 ?!?

  • She may know a thing or two about laptop, but to answer her question what I will buy? I will buy a LAPTOP 100% I OWN A MACBOOK PRO 13" BUT I WILL NOT GET THE MACBOOK AIR

THESE ARE THE RESONS NO SDCARD,NO OPTICAL DRIVE NO GOOD.

  • why is a woman talking about laptops?

  • Mac is awesome i dont know what you guys are frikkin talking about but you better get your facts straight...!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im soooo glad i didnt see this fail top 5, cant tell the difference between a ultrabook and a, laptop wen it hit youtube last year. the 'cnet editors' that did this one need real help. i mean...the '5 best laptops', realy!?!? it's like saying, the '5 best cars' or 'the 5 best employees'. pffft, horses for courses, guys, cmon. let's see a 'top 5 business laptops' or a 'top 5 off-to-college ultrabooks' review.

  • The Mac air Has a Backlit Keyboard!

  • @Orrieherman Because having a huge screen hovering over top the keyboard is just way too overrated.

  • i hate all of the comparisons between the laptops and tablets. They are completely different things and they are intended for different purposes. NO one said that tablets are meant to be laptops. It is very annoying

  • @Thegooob95 Agreed with you

  • CNET you guys are totally stupid. Where the hell is sony vio on your top 5? You think HP is better than Sony. Your top 5 should only include Apple laptops and sony vio laptops because everybody knows they are the best. Shame on you CNET

  • @Hardcoregamer1983 None of those - most expensive rebranders thats it...

  • LOL Cnet are a bunch of Apple Fanboys... IDK why you people listen to them. Unsubcribing now. Tired of the Apple crap beating even better higher end PCs in their "reviews". Fail Cnet is fail.

  • i have a 13" new macbook pro with osx lion on it, and it is one of the best computers i have ever used. definitely recommend it!

  • I have the mac mini. 500GB 2.0GHz

  • I love my 13" MacBook pro working at mc Donald's for 4 months was worth if!!!

  • Apple as always my PowerBook g4 is still in great condition so is my PowerBook 3g. btw hp is better than Toshiba.

  • People People People, you some some of these people are paid to sponsor certain products. Of course the Macbook you know they are being paid to make it look best. Bill Gates > Steve Jobs

  • this list is a troll to all

  • how the fuck did the macbook pro get #1?!

  • @option124 best it is the best

  • @option124 Because it's the best laptop on the market. Maybe not the best price value, but the best computer overall.

  • CNET is so Apple biased, its annoying.

  • So no Dell and Sony Vaio but you put Toshiba and some crappy Apple Products? How much did they bribe you.

  • Sony Vaio and HP..

own u Ifans , i like apple products but their laptops fail compared to other laptops simple as that. i use iphone ipad myself im happy with it but i dont understnaad ur fanboyness. its sick and i dont get it. like its your dad who created it.?

  • my ass i used a macbook 2010 13 inch pro myself.

is switched to sony vaio now im waaay more happy first of all with windows. second of all that my laptop is nearly 2x faster and better looking and mobile.

they should add sony vaio laptops especially the best laptop in de the world Z serie.

  • I still like my 'build it myself towers' ... If something breaks... I can go in and fix it...

  • Mac Book Pro has great hardware and is snappy. Too bad you can't do anything with that horsepower 'cause OSX does not work with most (61.3%) of software and games.

  • @Eddsworld1010 61.3% of software is useless anyways :P and if you want to play windows only games just run windows on it.

  • @Apevia21 yep. But that meens 40% (roughly) will work on the Mac and 61.3% of it is crap so...

  • @Eddsworld1010

So true, had to give mine to my bro and bought a PC

  • @Eddsworld1010 bootcamp?

  • apple = rich people stuff

get pc's for the same features for 1/5 of the price

  • the only resson i would go back to pc if i built my own just so it dosnt not come with that damn preloaded crap trial software that seems to hang around if they did not come with that then more people would stay/go back to windows it drives alot of people away the people that can't build and use a computer to its full potential that is

  • i can get a dell equivalent to the $2000 macbook for about $700. Apple = overpriced crap that overheats

  • @SawMill1567 hmmm never heard before that macs tend to overheat...

  • @SawMill1567 U mad bro? I bought a 15" Quad-Core i7 MacBook pro for $1350 (refurbished). And it has yet to overheat even when running FCP, Logic Pro and various other applications. If you knew anything about economics you would know that Macs are expensive because of marginal cost and development cost. Not to mention that your Dell will fall apart (ive owned several XPS's ((??))) But if you like it then more power to you man.

  • @shanesaurusrex dells dont fall apart. Why do you think most companies use them? Ive dropped my old XPS off a table and worked fine, no physical damage. Macs dont overheat to the point when they crash, they just get really really hot. And dont try to feed me a bullshit story about development cost. all your paying for is the style. Ive looked at macs before, they have half the computer specs of an xps but cost an additional $1000. you don't have an argument, you liked the look so you bought one.

  • @SawMill1567 Most companies use them because theyre cost effective. My friends mother is an exec at a networking company- she has gone through 3 XPS laptops 15". But its cheaper to replace them every year than to buy a high end HP envy or Mac etc. Now about apple- development costs are real and marginal cost is real. Read an economics book. "Half the specs of an XPS but cost an additional $1000" thats bullshit. hang on

  • @shanesaurusrex My MacBook Pro- 15" Quad-Core 2,0GHZ i7 with turbo boost up to 3.0, 500GB hdd, AMD Radeon 6490M. I paid $1359 through Apple for the refurbd model: The Dell XPS 2nd generation Intel® Core .20 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.10 GHz

    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M 2GB graphics with Optimus

256GB ssd- $1499- is it a better value? yes, is it $1000 less? Nice try. And the specs arent double either.

  • @shanesaurusrex Thats the top end XPS too, the $899/799 models are what companies use.

  • @SawMill1567 My Mac NEVER crashed.

  • @MrTheduderocks Not the actual laptop helps from crashing, but software. Your Mac isn't any different from other PC's, but the most expensive OS.

  • @SawMill1567 HAHAHAHAAH a dell...

  • @SuperBroomBrooom At least it lasts and you can by three laptops and not to share one laptop to all family members HAHAHAHAAH

  • @Videotubelord mine is still working too, and all of my family members bought one all together....so....HAHAHAHA?

  • @SuperBroomBrooom Exactly HAHAHAHA! If you don't count money, then thats fine, otherwise you are stupid to spend triple price for the same hardware...

  • @SawMill1567 Of course you can, because it will be built like a pice of crap and $700 is not the RRP. The MacBook Pro and MacBook Airs are engineering marvels. Why do you think HP completely ripped off the design of the MacBook Pro with the Envy? Funny how there isn't too much of an RRP difference between those two laptops because HP had to try and match the built quality of the Mac. Then Samsung tried to compete with the Air and their Series 9 ultrabook is more expensive than the MacBook Air

  • @chucklemunch In what way is a mac an engineering marvel? all that your doing at this point is trying to convince everyone around you, as well as yourself that your macbook was a justified purchase. Dells are built like tanks, everywhere i go i see companies use them, my school, my local clinic...ect.. so if they're built so poorly why does everyone use them?

  • @SawMill1567 I don't need to convince anyone. The next time I see a tank I'll be sure to think of your statement about Dell's, that is absolutely hilarious!!! Lol!! The two Macs I mentioned are engineering marvels in the computer world as the Pro introduced the unibody design along with the best custom built batteries in the laptop world. The Air followed on Pro's design and took it to the next level, aluminium body and amazing batteries in a far smaller size.

  • @SawMill1567 The reason these local schools and clinics etc are using these computers is because they are cheaper. They will not be able to afford Mac's on their budget. Mac's are expensive computers and not everyone can afford them. Especially state run institutions likes schools. Not to mention that Windows won the OS war in regards to world usage, far out weighing Apple in terms of how many people use it at home and in business.

  • @chucklemunch Why would you say dell's are built like pices of crap? How can you proof that :)? Furthermore I'm pretty sure most users do not care about ripping of designs or if their laptop is unibody. There are much better arguments for owning a mac and there are also good reasons for not wanting to own one; compatibility being one of them :).

  • @discy12345 What are you talking about? I was explaining to SawMill1567 about the engineering involved with a Macbook Pro and Air and how the design of the Pro is so good that it is being ripped off by other companies. It has nothing to do with why people should own or buy one. Unfortunately I mis-quoted myself and I meant to say that Dells are built like crap in comparison to Mac computers. The materials, design, and build quality is far superior in Mac computers compared to Dells.

  • @chucklemunch Okay, let's talk about the Dell XPS 15z of $1000 dollars. In what way are the materials and built quality (design is a personal preference right?) of the macbook pro superior? Also let's talk about the Samsung 700z5a and give me some advantages of a macbook pro in comparison with this model (excluding the usage of OSx, because I do believe that can be a consideration in some cases). These laptops are both $800 cheaper then the mb alternatives... so there should be some right?

  • @discy12345 Waow!! I will admit that these a couple of nice laptops. They are both built with panels rather that the unibody design which is not as up-to-spec as the MacBook Pro and the trackpads will not be anywhere near as good on the Dell and Samsung. I am struggling to find a similar price difference to you as I am from the UK and Prices here are different. I can see your point with the price though I am still inclined to say that Apple still offers a better product over all.

  • @chucklemunch I think laptops are comming pretty far built-wise though OSx can be a big advantage. I had to choose between a mb and a win-book last week, it was very difficult! ultimately I choose the 700z5a because it saved me around $600 dollars, I got an extra 8GB built in SSD (+750GB hd), same res, much better speakers, numpad, same battery life and same boottime. Also I can now upgrade RAM and HD myself (which I can not with an mb)+I get free 3 year warranty with samsung instead of 1.

  • @chucklemunch But I do agree with you. an apple product overall is better. They say you pay for the "apple experience" and that's certainly true. I wouldn't pay that much for a "Windows experience" :P xD. But I think Windows laptops are closing the gap; being more affordable and much better built then 1 year ago.

  • @discy12345 Nice to hear an honest reply for once on these comments pages. I do get carried away when people rave on about specs as the be-end-all and end-all. The choice is a difficult one, you would not believe how many hours I spent researching about Mac computers and trying to find out where my extra money was going. I have to say that it all comes down to budget and ultimately what you will using it for.

  • @discy12345 Both Mac and Windows excel in their own specific ways, for me the Mac excels in what I want to do (whilst offering none of my major issues with Windows), hence my choice. I agree with your comments on build quality becoming slowly better (also believing that they are not quite there either), but I will never return to the Windows platform unless some serious issues are addressed that I will not bore you with.

  • @discy12345 I unfortunately along with many others are not happy with the look of Windows 8. It looks very daft and I hope they get rid of this metro interface for non-touchscreen and tablet devices as it is a very poor. This could lead to a Vista 2 scenario.

  • @chucklemunch Apple has a great advantage in creating their own laptops. Although Windows can be buggy and slow; you've got to give MS props for having such a high compatibility ratio with almost every hardware configuration. Apple does not have to face this huge compatibility need with OSx. They have one outstanding touchpad and can spent all time on improving that one touchpad with their software, maybe that's one of the reasons mb's will always be a lot better then Windows pc's can ever be.

  • @discy12345 Windows' biggest advantage is also one of their greatest weaknesses. The fact that Windows is compatible with nearly everything also means that Windows PC's will not work as stable and problems will come up far easier than on the Macs. When those problems come up in regards to hardware and software the fix is never easy as the Windows world is completely customisable with billions of individual computers with different configurations of hardware and software.

  • @discy12345 This makes narrowing down and fixing these problems extremely difficult. The fix may work on one computer but it may not agree with some else's computer with a different setup. Apples biggest weakness is in hindsight one of their biggest strengths. As they control the hardware in their machines and the software, problems rarely come up and when they do they are very easily fixed.

  • @discy12345 The thing with Apple is that they do not reduce their pricing as models get older where as PC manufactures lower the cost as technology gets older. If we did a similar comparison in early 2011 when the i5/i7's were newer the prices would have been lot closer. When the new Mac's come out in March/April time with the new Intel Ivy Bridge processors they will be the same price as the current ones that are out priced just now.

  • @discy12345 This will lead to a substantially smaller price gap between Windows computers and the Apple computers again.

  • @SawMill1567 it's not all about performance. I'm not a mac fan; but it's clear pc users do not understand what a mac is about :).

  • @SawMill1567 Hating on apple just because you Can't afford one XD sad kid

  • i think asus is the best

  • I have a mac and I am not going to go back to windows. TOO MANY VIRUSES I HAVE THE IMAC 1TB (999.99GB) ---> 1000GB
