@emmy6423 Emmy, this sort of thing is a common problem on 6.5L Turbo-diesels. It's a good chance your PMD is failing. It's mounted on the side of the injector pump, right in the valley of the V8, under the air intake manifold. It gets hot and the electronics don't like it, causing them to fail. The result; the engine shuts down as if someone shut off the key. An easy fix is to relocate the PMD somewhere cooler. The kit consists of a new/good used PMD, a heat sink, and 6 foot of cable. Google it
@emmy6423 sounds like you have a fuel starvation caused by a loose obstruction limiting and blocking the fuel supply like a piece of plastic film or algae in your tank or filter. The truck in the video had an algae build up like loose skin around the in tank pick up and had the same symptoms before the pump failure
I put on a FASS 150/150 for the lift pump, then did a re-manufactured Bosch VP44 255HP. Been running great since. Also, when the fuel companies switch from Low sulfur to ultra low sulfur diesel (which has less lubrication), these pumps take it hard. You can thank the government and the EPA for our failing pumps. I put in some additive in each tank to help correct for their mistake.
Make sure you have a lift pump (AirDog, Raptor, FASS) that can supply 10 psi minimum at wide open throttle. 2 stroke oil helps as well. There are no more brand new Bosch VP44s anymore. You have to get a remanufactured pump.
In the video it was at 1200 to 1500 rpm wide open. it just managed to get to the other side of the road as soon as the throttle was released she died. My 06 Ram pull her home.
rebuilt injector pumps will almost always fail. you want remanufactured or brand new; i recommend thoroughbred diesel. i got my for 1025$ airdog 150 for 500; my IP was doing the same thign when i bought my truck
wow, you definely want to stop putting stock lift pumps in there. even the aftermarket mopar ones are junk.
look up FASS or AIRDOG on google, they're both performance lift pumps and they come in 100gph or 150gph... you want the kit for 98.5-02... they push alot of fuel. any performance diesel site will have them listed.
they're pricey but worth it.. they have a built in filter water seperator deal so you could get rid of the factory setup.
@2strokedetroit Yep it's a shame that to save $100 Dodge put a crappie lift pump. By the way I love the Sound of that 2 stroke Detroit, it reminds me of the M113 Gavin.

have you been putting in STOCK lift pumps everytime?
the lift pump dying is what causes the vp44 to fail because it starves of fuel which is its lubricant.
91CTD 2 years ago
The first set was factory, thereafter the lift pump was from o'reilly and the injector was a rebuilt by Victoria Injection. (Victoria, Tx).
What lift pump would you suggest, by the the last we had them look at the filter inside the tank and it was extremely dirty

why do diesels white smoke when pumps go I wonder?
maybe something to do with them running without the advance mechanism as the advance is worked by fuel pressure.
Its witch craft I say.

@gattopoldo get any aftermarket pump able to handle diesel and rig up a fuel pressure gauge

NOT NEEDED.....
FASS or Air Dog lift pump along with an ounce of tcw3 two stroke oil per gallon of fuel will keep the ole vp good and lubed.. :D
