Just got the starter kit yesterday... loved it! I wore the makeup from 5 p.m. till I took it off this morning (fell asleep haha) and it was practically like I wasn't wearing makeup! I hate the feeling like you have an extra layer of skin from makeup, but bare minerals makes it so smooth and it blends beautifully to your skin. Usually at the end of a school day I will have oily skin around my nose and chin area, but using bare minerals I had very little oil! A HUGE improvement. So happy!

Me and my mother both purchased it and it made us break out it settled I'n all our imperfections and also made our skin oily. This new mat formulation is really wonderful!! I had the same experience with the original formula. i have the same skin type as you too, so i know what you mean. the original version has bismuth dioxcide and that is what maked your face shiny and itchy. i recently tried the matte and i was surprised i could wear it. very happy now, it makes my skin look very even and polished. love your tuts!!

its called bismuth it makes ur skin have that glowly look its a cheap filler and cause rashes or itching look but i had to return mine to sephora it broke my face out in a rash along my jawline. i like the apperance at first it was beautiful but a week later it looked as if i had a diaaper rash on my face

@TheGalleryGal I believe it's the Bismuth Oxychloride, which is found in the original formula of BM foundation. The BM matte foundation does not contain it though. :)
I have oily and acne skin. This is the only type of foundation that does not make me break out. I agree the original was not great while it was gentle on my skin the coverage was blah. This new matt powder is awesome gives me great coverage that before I was only able to get with certain liquid foundations.

@EmmaLynnn i work for Bare Esentuals i know people who do use it like that but honestly it can look very cakey im sure not the look anyone wants but it you want to use it and have a good amount of coverage get a handy buki brush its amazing and give a really good full coverage
I'm using the original right now. I love how long it stays on and the coverage it gives. However, I have EXTREMELY oily skin and lately I've been noticing how thoughout the day it slides around, becomes patchy and uneven. That makes me super sad because I really loved it at first and kinda still do like it until it does that. But now I def. have to give the matte a try. Plus that makes more sense with oily skin. I love bare minerals original - it's really helped my skin, but when I tried the matte I found it went on terribly no matter what I did, and I had smooth skin but it still looked patchy.

Im 19 and Bare minerals is the only foundation I have ever used.I loved the original but because I have oily skin I was excited for the matte one..yea it took me 6 months to figure out the matte version was causing my cystic acne.great for my first semester of college.just a warning

I love this; I use the matte formula because I have oily and acne prone skin. I recommend the bronzer and eye shadows too. Some people think they're overpriced, but with the small amount you use (because it's so pigmented) it lasts longer than other cheaper products, so in a way you're saving money.
I have dry skin but my concern was the foundation fading. I was an original user and now that i've watched this, i think i'll consider trying out the matte formula.
Right now i currently use Mac's Studio Sculpt foundation and on top of that their mineral loose power foundation and it looks flawless. I definitely want to keep using it unless there's a cheaper with same qualities and results as I am getting now

i have oily skin too, and right now im using the original starter kit, i thought the matte would be included in it, but of course it wasnt, so im using the foundation up so i can buy the matte foundation, and using the prime time oil control it help some what with my skin, and im prone to acne easily as well.
With oily skin use the Matte and it absorbs oil and with dry skin use original and itll give you a nice glow(: I really like Matte since i'm a teenager.
The way the foundation looks depends primarily on your skin type. For me, I have dry skin so the original formula looks more natural and gives me a healthy glow, the matte looks powdery on me. For someone with oiler skin they may prefer the matte finish for longer wear and to help control the oil and the shine. She should make your selection based on your skintype
always take in consideration that everyone has different skin. Many people cant use bareminerals but yet others can. I use Smooth Minerals from Avon and I use it plus the bareminerals matte. Smooth minerals actually clears my skin, so there are many different people that has different skin. Can work for some but not for others. Try smooth minerals from avon, its awesome. and it was 25 for the whole kit plus the brush.
I love b.m. over any other mineral make up. I've tried jane iredale and laura mercier but bm beats them hands down. I have acne prone skin and it DOES NOT break me out.

@MakeupbyTiffanyD the original Bare Minerals foundation contains only 5 ingredients titanium oxide, Zinc oxide, Mica, Iron Oxide and Bismuth Oxychloride. The Bismuth oxychloride gives a luminous sheen or glow, which I believe the aspect you didn't care for. It sounds like your skin is a bit oiler which is why the company took out the Bismuth Oxychloride so that people with Combination/ Oily skin who prefer not to have the luminosity would have that option.
@LuvPink16 yes the Matte foundation will give you good coverage. make sure to use the primetime as well. Also Bare mineral has one of the #1 ranked natural blemish treatments on the market. If you have oily/ acne prone skin, which it sounds like you do i would definitely recommend the Matte over the original.

The old formula had bismuth in it, and I think that's what irritated people's skin so much.
The matte formula is great and seems to look really natural. People never know that I'm actually wearing makeup.Once the natural oils within your skin settle, the matte formula makes your skin looks AMAZING :D
bareminerals foundations have very few ingredients, and it's all natural. for that, and how long a jar lasts, I wouldn't use anything else.
The buffing part of the application is very crucial. the buffing warms up the powder on your face and turns into a creamy texture (what the bareminerals sales lady told me) and grabs onto your skin.
I got tired of paying so much for BE foundation, and decided to try Revlons Colorstay Mineral foundation...I have tried so many different types of mineral foundation, both drug store and HE, and the Revlon is the BEST! Has a matte finish, no shimmer, stays on with very little touchup, AND its between 11 and 15$, depending on where you get it.
I have the exact same skin & my trick for longer-lasting-no-shine-look is by using the mineral veil FIRST & especially more so on my more problem areas (like blemishes, oil spots, etc.).

I have combo skin and liked the original foundation, but really like the matte now that it is available. I prefer the coverage of the matte.
As to the "glimmery" quality, I like have that extra sparkle.....makes me feel special and pretty!?! Of course, it truly isn't for everyone.

hmm i want to try this.... :/ liquid foundation sucks for me.. but then again im still wearing it.. :P but saving up bare minerals... i have oily skin and i think bare minerals original is great.. im a teen so i breakout very easily at least for me.,.. and it works great on me! but i want to try matte. bcuz the original didnt cover up somethings very well.,. but o well ill try it
Been using bare minerals for years, no breakouts. Liquid foundations tend to make me break out. I like that bare minerals feels really light - you can't feel the normal heaviness of other foundations on your face. All their products work great on me EXCEPT their sunblock which does break me out. I do use a different shade as concealer but am looking for concealer that lasts, but at hte same time doesnt make my under-eyes look 'white' in photos. Suggestions?
bare minerals made me break out too, im happy im not alone. i was using glominerals before, and i should have stuck with it. i only had a few random pimples, which i am sure id have no matter what foundation i used, and it also has much better coverage.
I have really oily skin too and I notice that i would wash my face in the morning and it would look fresh and clean and then once I put on my Original bare minerals it would look shinyy again. At 44, I need to be careful with the type of makeup I put on my face. I love love loved the way the original formula "LOOKED" and new right away it was far better than some of the 'cover girl' or 'lorelle' walmart. But I did notice that over time my face was starting to look "older" or more weathered. I saw this video and bought the Matte formula. Now my skin looks much better, not as weathered, no bumps (wow! I really DID have bumps!), and the end result is better than I expected! THNX!~!!!
which is better? the msf natural or the bare minerals matte one? i love the finish of mac msf natural but after 3 hrs its gone since i have very oily t zone. is this the same finish as the mac msf natural?
@PrettierThanPink1981 The matte gives higher coverage than the msf. It gives you a matte, but natural looking appearance. The msf is good if you dont need too much coverage but i think the matte is better [:
everytime when i use the origina kind of bare minerals, peopl alway compliment my skin look so flawless, they dont say ur make up is pretty, it really does look so natural that it looks like real skin. a bonus is that this product is not harmful for my skin,or atleast not like other products. i am big on protecting and nourishing my skin from any kind of skin problemsl. i love it! the only downside is that when i take picture i look too oil but in real life it is not oily.
I really liked the foundation from Bare Minerals, but I hated the brushes. Mine fell apart within a month of owning them! I washed them and cared for them better than any of my Mac brushes. I called Bare Minerals, and the rep I talked to wasn't even slightly familiar with Mac when I asked what a good substitute would be! I was so disappointed. @Priscillalalala4 if y ou are not using the primetime foundation primer prior to applying your Bare Minerals, that is the reason. Primetime makes your makeup last ALL DAY
@Priscillalalala4 use a primer for oil control it helps i have acne prone skin and what also what helps is take a wet wipe and wipe it all over your face to get excess oil off before u apply ur makeup and use the veil its the makeup sealer
@Priscillalalala4 u have 2 put moisturizer first. Don't use the kind they have (not good) try Aveeno ultra calming. My make up stays on all day now, plus the moisturizer makes your face really soft!

I feel completely the same about the original, because I also have oily acne-prone skin and am in my 30's. The original formula would love more satiny, and make me appear oily during the day. It also made my skin itch like crazy when I got hot and would sweat. I so wanted to like BE because I like more natural matte finishs. So far the only foundation that I have used that I know will give me those results is Merle Norman's Luxiva powder foundation. I may just have to give this a try!!
Can you believe we only got the matte formula in Ireland last week? A year after it was released in the US! I got two samples so hopefully it won't make my face shiny (I have combination skin). However I think I think the moisturizer is also important. If it's too rich any foundation will look shiny. What moisturizer do you recommend for oily/combination skin that has SPF and looks good under mineral foundation. Oh and have you tried Laura Mercier's mineral foundation? Thanks!
okay question.. i think i have the original. .. when you used the original... this is how it was for me: like a day or two after i washed it off, it seemed like my face was more flawless-( does this mean that it went into my pores??), but a day after that it'd seem a bit bumpy. is that how it was for you with the original one?... also does the original contain oil is that why the face would be shiny, and the matte one doesn't contain oil as much or at all??
@cheergurly98 I just bought the starter kit today at the actual store bare minerals store and it was 60 dollars it came with the large brush for applying the foundations, a concealer brush, mineral sun kiss stuff (aka bronzer to give you some color), the blush brush, the mineral vail to really lock in the color. its great :) and i got the matte kind :)

are you sure they cnahged their formula? because i just started using this a few months ago and i got the exact kind of acne you were talking about. just big, sore knots under the skin and they scarred really bad and took forever to go away. however i dont have the same problem with the matte. i do think the origional covers bettere tho and i find the bigger the brush, the better the coverage.
i just purchased this today and i have tried their foundation before but the original formula and i hated it, i felt it made my face look a bit glittery, and irridescent but i tried my new matte one today and i am in love with it.
@curabear1 the bismuth in the original made my face itch in the summer when i would sweat. The original does not contain the bismuth... and I do not get that anymore. i LOVE it!!!!! You should def give it a try, you will not be disappointed!
I have used both formulas as well. I mainly like bare minerals because it feels lighter on my face throughout the day. Living in a climate like Houston, TX has - it is important to find something light! I LOVE LOVE the matte formula over the original. . The original formula accentuates my pores as well and my skin is only oily in the t-zone area. Otherwise it is dry so I have to use a good moisturizer prior to. The original primer seems to cause breakouts on me so I don't recommend that.
I had to stop using it. I loved it but that stuff got on everything! If I opened the door, fingerprints, I work with lots of paper, fingerprints. I touched the microwave at work,fingerprints. If I was a burglar I would get caught because of fingerprints.
I really hope they r not paying to say that you r loving it, because sometimes, people have a genuine interest in the product and would like to buy it and know the pros and the cons. but with these gurus getting paid to say ravishing reviews about a product, it makes it hard to really know the genuine review from the one thats not. I just hope u dont get sucked into it, and be sincere with us..saying everything is great about something is too good to be true and not credible
@crystalshayblack you can buy it at ulta, sephora or sometimes they have bare essentials stores. it costs $28 and i have dry skin and it works with a good hydrating moisturizer :)

I'm using the original right now. I love how long it stays on and the coverage it gives. However, I have EXTREMELY oily skin and lately I've been noticing how thoughout the day it slides around, becomes patchy and uneven. That makes me super sad because I really loved it at first and kinda still do like it until it does that. But now I def. have to give the matte a try. Plus that makes more sense with oily skin. Thx for the review!!

I love bare minerals original - it's really helped my skin, but when I tried the matte I found it went on terribly no matter what I did, and I had smooth skin but it still looked patchy.

Im 19 and Bare minerals is the only foundation I have ever used.I loved the original but because I have oily skin I was excited for the matte one..yea it took me 6 months to figure out the matte version was causing my cystic acne.great for my first semester of college.just a warning

I love this; I use the matte formula because I have oily and acne prone skin. I recommend the bronzer and eye shadows too. Some people think they're overpriced, but with the small amount you use (because it's so pigmented) it lasts longer than other cheaper products, so in a way you're saving money.

I have dry skin but my concern was the foundation fading. I was an original user and now that i've watched this, i think i'll consider trying out the matte formula.
Right now i currently use Mac's Studio Sculpt foundation and on top of that their mineral loose power foundation and it looks flawless. I definitely want to keep using it unless there's a cheaper with same qualities and results as I am getting now
Oh also, I need good coverage cause my face glows pink as it is haha.

i have oily skin too, and right now im using the original starter kit, i thought the matte would be included in it, but of course it wasnt, so im using the foundation up so i can buy the matte foundation, and using the prime time oil control it help some what with my skin, and im prone to acne easily as well.

With oily skin use the Matte and it absorbs oil and with dry skin use original and itll give you a nice glow(: I really like Matte since i'm a teenager.

The way the foundation looks depends primarily on your skin type. For me, I have dry skin so the original formula looks more natural and gives me a healthy glow, the matte looks powdery on me. For someone with oiler skin they may prefer the matte finish for longer wear and to help control the oil and the shine. She should make your selection based on your skintype

always take in consideration that everyone has different skin. Many people cant use bareminerals but yet others can. I use Smooth Minerals from Avon and I use it plus the bareminerals matte. Smooth minerals actually clears my skin, so there are many different people that has different skin. Can work for some but not for others. Try smooth minerals from avon, its awesome. and it was 25 for the whole kit plus the brush.

@MakeupbyTiffanyD a great benefit of the Matte foundation is that it contains the Active Mineral complex thats in the skin care line so it helps to improve the skins condition by restoring the skin which is why you have little/ no breakouts.

@MakeupbyTiffanyD the original Bare Minerals foundation contains only 5 ingredients titanium oxide, Zinc oxide, Mica, Iron Oxide and Bismuth Oxychloride. The Bismuth oxychloride gives a luminous sheen or glow, which I believe the aspect you didn't care for. It sounds like your skin is a bit oiler which is why the company took out the Bismuth Oxychloride so that people with Combination/ Oily skin who prefer not to have the luminosity would have that option.

@LuvPink16 yes the Matte foundation will give you good coverage. make sure to use the primetime as well. Also Bare mineral has one of the #1 ranked natural blemish treatments on the market. If you have oily/ acne prone skin, which it sounds like you do i would definitely recommend the Matte over the original.

The old formula had bismuth in it, and I think that's what irritated people's skin so much.
The matte formula is great and seems to look really natural. People never know that I'm actually wearing makeup.Once the natural oils within your skin settle, the matte formula makes your skin looks AMAZING :D

bareminerals foundations have very few ingredients, and it's all natural. for that, and how long a jar lasts, I wouldn't use anything else.
The buffing part of the application is very crucial. the buffing warms up the powder on your face and turns into a creamy texture (what the bareminerals sales lady told me) and grabs onto your skin.

I got tired of paying so much for BE foundation, and decided to try Revlons Colorstay Mineral foundation...I have tried so many different types of mineral foundation, both drug store and HE, and the Revlon is the BEST! Has a matte finish, no shimmer, stays on with very little touchup, AND its between 11 and 15$, depending on where you get it.

I have the exact same skin & my trick for longer-lasting-no-shine-look is by using the mineral veil FIRST & especially more so on my more problem areas (like blemishes, oil spots, etc.).

I like watching your videos and appreciate that you are honest about the products, as well as stating your opinion and that it is your opinion; not an "all or nothing" type of review.
I have combo skin and liked the original foundation, but really like the matte now that it is available. I prefer the coverage of the matte.
As to the "glimmery" quality, I like have that extra sparkle.....makes me feel special and pretty!?! Of course, it truly isn't for everyone.

Been using bare minerals for years, no breakouts. Liquid foundations tend to make me break out. I like that bare minerals feels really light - you can't feel the normal heaviness of other foundations on your face. All their products work great on me EXCEPT their sunblock which does break me out. I do use a different shade as concealer but am looking for concealer that lasts, but at hte same time doesnt make my under-eyes look 'white' in photos. Suggestions?

bare minerals made me break out too, im happy im not alone. i was using glominerals before, and i should have stuck with it. i only had a few random pimples, which i am sure id have no matter what foundation i used, and it also has much better coverage.

I have really oily skin too and I notice that i would wash my face in the morning and it would look fresh and clean and then once I put on my Original bare minerals it would look shinyy again. I never realized that the original had shimmer to it. I am going to purchase the matte this week and cant wait to see if it controls the shine. Thanks so much for the video it helped alot.

At 44, I need to be careful with the type of makeup I put on my face. I love love loved the way the original formula "LOOKED" and new right away it was far better than some of the 'cover girl' or 'lorelle' walmart. But I did notice that over time my face was starting to look "older" or more weathered. I saw this video and bought the Matte formula. Now my skin looks much better, not as weathered, no bumps (wow! I really DID have bumps!), and the end result is better than I expected! THNX!~!!!

everytime when i use the origina kind of bare minerals, peopl alway compliment my skin look so flawless, they dont say ur make up is pretty, it really does look so natural that it looks like real skin. a bonus is that this product is not harmful for my skin,or atleast not like other products. i am big on protecting and nourishing my skin from any kind of skin problemsl. i love it! the only downside is that when i take picture i look too oil but in real life it is not oily.

I really liked the foundation from Bare Minerals, but I hated the brushes. Mine fell apart within a month of owning them! I washed them and cared for them better than any of my Mac brushes. I called Bare Minerals, and the rep I talked to wasn't even slightly familiar with Mac when I asked what a good substitute would be! I was so disappointed. Do you have any other suggestions for a brush I can use that doesn't suck?

The ingredient cause the irritation could be Bismuth...Among all mineral foundation, only Jane Iredale and Bare mineral (matte one) got no Bismuth.

I feel completely the same about the original, because I also have oily acne-prone skin and am in my 30's. The original formula would love more satiny, and make me appear oily during the day. It also made my skin itch like crazy when I got hot and would sweat. I so wanted to like BE because I like more natural matte finishs. So far the only foundation that I have used that I know will give me those results is Merle Norman's Luxiva powder foundation. I may just have to give this a try!!

Can you believe we only got the matte formula in Ireland last week? A year after it was released in the US! I got two samples so hopefully it won't make my face shiny (I have combination skin). However I think I think the moisturizer is also important. If it's too rich any foundation will look shiny. What moisturizer do you recommend for oily/combination skin that has SPF and looks good under mineral foundation. Oh and have you tried Laura Mercier's mineral foundation? Thanks!

okay question.. i think i have the original. .. when you used the original... this is how it was for me: like a day or two after i washed it off, it seemed like my face was more flawless-( does this mean that it went into my pores??), but a day after that it'd seem a bit bumpy. is that how it was for you with the original one?... also does the original contain oil is that why the face would be shiny, and the matte one doesn't contain oil as much or at all??

@cheergurly98 I just bought the starter kit today at the actual store bare minerals store and it was 60 dollars it came with the large brush for applying the foundations, a concealer brush, mineral sun kiss stuff (aka bronzer to give you some color), the blush brush, the mineral vail to really lock in the color. its great :) and i got the matte kind :)

are you sure they cnahged their formula? because i just started using this a few months ago and i got the exact kind of acne you were talking about. just big, sore knots under the skin and they scarred really bad and took forever to go away. however i dont have the same problem with the matte. i do think the origional covers bettere tho and i find the bigger the brush, the better the coverage.

@curabear1 the bismuth in the original made my face itch in the summer when i would sweat. The original does not contain the bismuth... and I do not get that anymore. i LOVE it!!!!! You should def give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

I have used both formulas as well. I mainly like bare minerals because it feels lighter on my face throughout the day. Living in a climate like Houston, TX has - it is important to find something light! I LOVE LOVE the matte formula over the original. . The original formula accentuates my pores as well and my skin is only oily in the t-zone area. Otherwise it is dry so I have to use a good moisturizer prior to. The original primer seems to cause breakouts on me so I don't recommend that.

I had to stop using it. I loved it but that stuff got on everything! If I opened the door, fingerprints, I work with lots of paper, fingerprints. I touched the microwave at work,fingerprints. If I was a burglar I would get caught because of fingerprints.

I really hope they r not paying to say that you r loving it, because sometimes, people have a genuine interest in the product and would like to buy it and know the pros and the cons. but with these gurus getting paid to say ravishing reviews about a product, it makes it hard to really know the genuine review from the one thats not. I just hope u dont get sucked into it, and be sincere with us..saying everything is great about something is too good to be true and not credible
