  • LMAO WHAT THE HELL THIS IS SO TRIPPY

  • @adorchable Ah well a Canadian accent is the hard to do eh? :P

  • HE SOUNDS LIKE NATHAN DRAKE.

  • His accent isn't bad, but you can tell it's fake. Still love him.

  • I love David Tennant but...yeah, that "American accent" isn't very convincing. It goes between old-fashioned Southern and something I can't really identify, but either way it sounds a bit outdated. I don't mean the phrasing; I know he's reading from a book.

I do think the tendency to go Southern when doing an American accent is pretty funny, especially considering that I'm a Southerner and can't even make myself sound Southern. ^^; The closest I can get to any accent is Canadian haha

  • 1:56 "WELL" from Doctor Who

  • Comment removed

  • 10 is most stylish doctor, you know its true

  • Holy shit that accent(s) is awful. I love him even though he can't do an American accent worth shit and the 9th Doctor was much better. XD

  • X'C he is better with his British accent but it is weird he is Scottish

  • OMG HE SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE HIMSELF O.O

  • thats wierd, his whole voice changes when he does and american accent

  • Ha ha ha "Poto-MAC." Do all Americans sound Southern to Brits?

  • @spershall Probably not, but that's the most common dialect according to the media.

  • What is this from?

  • There's a bit of New England in there, too

  • Haha, you can tell he's never had to say an American word like Potomac, but beyond that, it was like a very cool John Wayne

  • David, Y U SO AWESOME?! I am SO getting this book.

  • better than Matt's

  • Just a question, what do brits consider to be an american accent? I mean, you know, there's a southern accent, a jersey accent, midwestern accent (I'm not quite sure but I think this is a Midwestern), and different forms of city accents depending on what part of the country you're in.

  • @wizbang529 No no, nvrmnd. Definitely not midwestern. I'm not sure what it is, I think it's not real.

  • potoMACK

  • Yikes, sorry but I'm American and his accent is horrible. It sounds like he's trying to do a Texas accent, but it's really bad. >_>

  • I'm going to say it, his American accent is awful. Still love him though.

  • When he says "well" right before 2:00 he sounds like the Doctor :) I love it! British people doing American accents makes me smile, especially when they do it well :) he sounds like Batman! Sexy!

  • That awkward moment when David Tennant can sound more American than the guy who grew up in cali...

  • HOLY SHIT HOLY. EFFING. SHIT. This is the best thing I've ever listened to omg omgomgomg

  • ARE YOU SAYING DOCTOR WHO CAN READ ME BEDTIME STORIES AT NIGHT?!

  • @NinjaNinja2012 He already has. He's done at least five stories for CBeebies.

  • That's it I'm going to get this audio book from the library NOW

  • All his voices are so sexy :)

  • what on earth???

  • Does anyone else notice that he is talking in a southern accent. No one finds that weird....

  • @Potterpuppetpals98

It sounds like a weak West Texas accent. Except for the word "Potomac," which is just pronounced strangely.

  • 1:57 DOCTOR SAYS "weeell"

  • It sounds so southern!

  • @holmquizzle2 "WEELLLL, four things. Well, four things.. and a Lizard."

  • he sounds half in pain, half like batman. I love his voice

  • it's so weird hearing this! everyone sounds so different with American accents..... we sound so un-sophisticated..... **sigh** America has McDonalds

  • @egirl998 sadly so does every where else

  • lol thats not really what americans sound like but pretty close! :3

  • Omg. I almost died. I was having breathing problems while listening to him. Heart palpitations too!!!

  • *Shivers* Good God. I was SO used to hearing The Doctor's sexy English accent, it was amazing to find that David was actually Scottish. And I thought THAT was attractive enough in and of itself...But now...It just...shouldn't be legal for a person to BE that appealing. XD

  • damn.... nice voice, both ways :)

  • Could he get any sexier?

  • I almost droped my ipad

  • How is he so good at accents?

  • @Lemonpeep

Practice. It's not hard once you get the hang of it.

  • @capsule56 Yeah, I suppose so. I'm alright at doing some accents and I can do American accents when other people aren't around. As soon as someone is with me when I do the accent it goes all rubbish

  • @Lemonpeep

xD That's how I am with impersonating peoples voices. It's because you're not doing it naturally. Ya gotta REEEELlllaaaaaxxxxxx~~~~

  • @capsule56 Totally, my American accents turn into the stereotypical and over the top version and that annoys me -_- Americans don't sound like that xD

  • @capsule56 I shall xD

  • One of the accents sounds like Scott Bakula.

  • His American accent is pretty darn good. Sounds like the Upper Midwest, maybe Chicago or Wisconsin. His pronunciation of "Potomac", emphasizing the "a", is typical of the Upper Midwest. They tend to over-emphasize (or distort), rather than drop their vowels. Good job, Mr. Tenant!

  • Bit nifty that he's already doing an English accent very well (he's Scottish) and then putting on an American accent which sounds good too... Lovely voice to listen to :)

  • i love you. that is all.

  • THIS IS SO SEXY

  • omg why is his voice so attractive

  • LOL I love how British/Scottish/Irish/whatever people, when they're trying to make American accents, end up gravitating towards Southern accents... //I suppose it's American enough xD

    ...

This is so amusing for some reason xD

  • Even if it was the worst book in existence, if David Tennant was reading it, rugged American accent or anything else, I would buy it.

  • MIND=BLOWN

  • fell apart at potomac. lol

  • Haha reminds me of Hugh Laurie's American accent, a little over the top!

  • @SuperTemp100wpm - You mean convincing, in some parts of England! lol Look guys, Texan is an accent all it's own, so we have an ear for the other American accents, and Deep South, Midwestern, and Northeastern are distinct accents. He just muddles them altogether here. It's endearing in the same way an 4 year old tries to help with baking an cake. Cute try. :)

  • @DFWTexan42 Very true. Someone from Wisconsin sounds completely different than someone in Minnesota. Same with Texas and its bordering states. You can tell who is from where if you know the lingo and pronounciations. I've been to 32 states in my life and not one state sounds the same.

  • Hilarious muddle! Never heard an Boston, Midwestern, Southern, John Wayne accent before. :D I especially love how they use turns of phrase no American would use, except when we try to do an bad British accent! lol

  • ohh..Why would someone want to speak with an American accent? Scottish are so much cooler!

  • well i didnt listen to the story at all, i honestly i have no idea what its about. I just enjoyed the voice and pictures :)

  • David Tennant mimics an American accent the way Americans mimic an English accent.

That being said, I think he sounds like Nixon wandering occasionally into what twelve-year-olds think John Wayne used to sound like. XD lol

  • that does not even sound remotely american ahhaha

  • Ohmygodohmygodohmygod. His fakey american accent sounds like Doctor Whooves' actual voice on My little pony: friendship is magic!!!!!!

  • @pandachan71 HELL YES IT DOES!!!

  • I dunno.. Voice of god vs Voice of my Favorite Doctor. But seriously this makes me giggle insessantly! It's kinda funny if thats how he thinks we sound. Though yeah, there are plenty of different American accents. We are one big squishy squashy ball of humanity aren't we now? I think I prefer his regular voice over all. <3

  • @Nekko We're a wibbly wobbly ball of humanity. Use the correct adjectives and adverbs, please :) .

  • @IceMetalPunk Oh Phbbbt :p I don't think we quite make it to wibbley wobbley status. The US is still too divided racially and regionaly. *Finally ginger! But, I have no head... :(*

  • I'm American...and it's weird hearing him speak in an accent (to me) then switch to "regular" and back to accent (even though it's reversed...I'm the one w/ an accent) haha odd

  • His "American" accent fluctuates between Texan to Southern to a slight Californian but other than that he did a great job... alternating... I'm pretty sure I'd have multiple accents if I tried to do a Scot or English accent.

  • @ZoeJeren better than Matt Smith's

  • That's the first time I've heard a Scot do an American... epic.

  • It was all good til he got to 'Potomac'.

  • Oh, correction... I know he's Scottish, but he's kinda doing that same accent anyhow.

  • He sounds like a cross between Dennis Hopper and Paul Reubens... I love how we always seem to have only one accent. The overachievers can do a few dialects but mostly there's a certain middle-of-the-road Midwestern and rather nasal one that is most often what comes when someone from England tries to sound American. I don't know that either English or Americans are better at the effort really. We each have our stereotypes.

  • Generally, English actors seem to do better "American" accents than American actors do British. Case in point - Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins vs. Hugh Laurie in House. Considering his original Scottish accent I think Mr. Tennant did a lovely job on this one, especially since he's switching back and forth...

  • @HayBea I think it's because British actors are much more exposed to American accents then vice versa. Most Americans only know of the "proper" English accent and therefor can't replicate a true English accent.

  • Haha, nice try there David. Maybe you should spend a little more time in the US.

  • David Tennant should narrate everything.

I might be the only person in the world that prefers his voice over Morgan Freeman's hahaha.

  • @InevitableLost You are definitely not alone in prefering his voice. It's so delicious. I could just eat him up. lol

  • @InevitableLost ur not the only person i love david tennant

  • @InevitableLost Certainly you're not!

  • @InevitableLost I would take him over Morgan freeman...he's smexy

  • @InevitableLost Alan Rickman. That is all.

  • @InevitableLost you're not. :3 hahahaha.

  • @InevitableLost Your not... You have got to be reTARDIS to think that.

  • "George WAhshington, LAhst and GAhne." What, is he from Boston?

  • ... I... Just ... yea....

  • He's trying to do like a combanation of Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne

  • Ahmahgah. My jaw dropped at this XD Okay, so maybe it sounds a little gravelly, but it's still really good.

  • @Pennsylvaniachan British men, I've noticed, make their voices gravelly when they do American accents to try to cover the British intonations they use. Hugh Laurie does it too. Either that, or they try to go Southern XDD

  • "If you actually believe that than you are the linguistic loser. Pick your head out of your ass "

Kiss your mosther with that mouth? Real class there, sport. Well done. You certainly showed us who the intelligent one here is! (*cough*)

Oh, and I don't need to be a 'linguistic expert' when I've spoken/heard an American accent all my life...moron.

    Good luck in prison!

  • His voice is so.....hypnotic.

  • Haha xD and his British accents great too! But his real voice is my favorite:)

  • that's pretty good! not really southern, but a little drunk at times lol

  • damn, your so damn good a voices, lol

  • omg.

  • 1:56 "WEELLLL" totally reminds me of The Doctor haha

  • Has David Tennant narrated any more audio books? Im eager to have him read aloud to me now!

  • sounds like mal from firefly trying to do a bostonian accent.

  • No actual American would believe this is an American speaking. I love DT one of the best Doctors but accent is terrible. Also Washington attacked Hessians after the Delware crossing, they were hired by the British as mercenaries, and its pronounced Pah toe mick not Pah two mac. Sadly he still knows more American history than most Americans do. We went from one of the most educated and literate people on earth to one of the least in the civilized world in less than 200 years.

  • @bcarr424 I do admit it's not the best American accent, but it is better than many can do. Surely he didn't know how to pronounce words because he was reading off from a book. It's not the fact he knows American history. It's plaster right in front of him on a page. The education thing is still incredibly true.

  • @bcarr424 "No actual American would believe this is an American speaking. "

I'm an American. I believe it. You lose. Game over.

Thanks for playing, you can pick up your home version on the way out.

  • @artguy42

If you actually believe that than you are the linguistic loser. Pick your head out of your ass and learn to distinguish accents and dialect on your way out. I apologize if you aren't in fact that stupid but have some type of hearing impairment.

  • he still sounds british...

  • @deoligist Thats strange because he's Scottish...

  • @TRDEWH hahahahaha made my night

  • Wow, that was really sexy.

  • WHO IS TALKING I CANT RECOGNISE HIM OMFG

  • better than alot of americans! XD

  • that's not really a very good american accent

  • @Xmentha Have you heard how thick his Scottish accent is? It's good enough.

  • @rawrgoesthekitty yes I have. While his american accent may be good compared to his actual accent, objectively it is just not a good american accent. It's very forced and stilted as well as being regionally inconsistant from line to line. I'm not hatin', just pointing it out. I still think David Tennant is awesome.

  • 1:57 "Welllll" XD

  • i would buy that just to hear him talk like that again.

  • He fluctuates between old time-y, like a Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, when he's emotional, shifts to cowboy movie style, hits Chicago for a sec and then plays with old timey, cowboy and a transplant vibe with a couple slips. He's got a great voice and I now really appreciate how rough playing with accents can be. That darn Hugh Laurie makes it look so easy.

  • It's slightly exaggerated and a little off otherwise, but it's pretty good nonetheless.

  • something tells me he studied a bit of john wayne ....if u listen u can hear a bit of it in his tone.....still great thumbs way up....

  • hahahahahahahahahaha ii can't get over it. it' just wierd. but it's good.

  • this is so bad! he needs to get lessons or something jeez

this couldn't even fool an American that was completely drunk and high let alone someone sober

  • whoa...

  • Haha, his American is as good as Dick Van Dyke's English. XD

  • @MoreThanJustATeaboy Well said!

  • He's better at it than Hugh Laurie!

  • Wait... Why is he putting on his english accent if he's narrating?

  • @kateisblue When you do an audio book, you try to do the voices, including the accents of the characters when they speak.

  • @rentheadangelcollins I understand that, but when it's general why isn't he just using his natural scottish accent?

  • @kateisblue Well, the book specifically calls the character "The American" I think he felt it was called for.

  • @rentheadangelcollins I know, I understand for the part where he's doing the American part, but in between, he's doing his english accent isn't he?

  • @kateisblue OH! Wow...Okay, I was not awake. Yeah, he's doing that. I think it's because it's more universally easily understandable than a Scottish accent. That or it was just an aesthetic choice on his own part. Not sure.

  • @rentheadangelcollins Oh right.

  • His American is decent...and I love his English....But Nothing beats his natural scotch

  • Aw. But he doesn't sound like David! :( He does a good job though.

  • Yeah, it needs some work so it sounds more casual, Matt Smith's American accent is better.

  • I think the English accent is just so much sexier!! But he does a good American accent, he is very talented.

  • What I find kinda funny is that when Americans do an "English" accent, it's almost always some kind of generic European accent and could even be used for Nova Scotia or Australia. But when I hear British actors doing American accents, it comes out nearly always Southern or Western. On a RARE occasion Bostonian.

  • @EmelRaines

Hugh Laurie is a WONDERFUL exception to that. Hence the "nearly" in there.

  • It's got to be tough constantly switching back and forth between Estuary English and American English. I bet if he was in a role where he had to use an American accent for hours at a time, he'd do better.

  • where can i get the full audiobook????????????

  • I like his pronunciation of "Potomac"..lol does good but the Scottish slips through

  • was about to say it was a pretty good American accent. But then it got ridiculous

  • Not a bad American accent. I keep hearing the edges of the Scottish popping through underneath though. XD It gets better as he continues using it though! <3

  • 0.58 yes please

  • the southern accent AHAHAHAHAH! david tennant is the best, i can't take it

  • 1:57 You hear the doctor's "Well" when he's doing his American accent :3

  • 1:54 I can hear the Doctor.

  • I'm putting in a request for Christmas:

I want my own personal David Tennant to follow me around and narrate my life 24/7.

  • He does an incredible job, of course, but it's sounds so weird.. it's REALLY weirding me out.

  • Umm I think that's john (captain jack harkness) talking american

  • 0:57 - looks like Johnny Knoxville...

  • Like an american with a cold.

  • i have a wors american acent and i'm american

  • Shit, I'm so buying this book-on-tape. I don't care if I hate it, I just wanna listen to the doctor reading me a book.

  • He doesn't sound like hiim when is American.... good thing his accent is one of thiings I like about him. :)

  • Pretty good

  • Pretty good, but he succumbs to the same thing all Brits do when attempting an American accent, his voice becomes a bit scruffy and almost forced. Nothing wrong with that, plenty of us Americans have that kind of voice. It's just that, I've never seen a male British actor do an American voice and NOT sound that way.

For some reason, the Aussies can pull it off though....huh....

  • That's pretty good! It's not quite exact though, i would know, I'm from the south! xD

  • eh, his american accent needs serious work....he goes from being a texan to an odd boston.....

I like him better english/scottish anyway

  • @KateyAriel Don't you mean "Ood Boston"?

  • Puh-toe-mack River! lol

  • Woah!

  • You know he actually sounds rather northern sourthern, except for a few spots he sounds Really Southern! Pretty good for a Scottish dude doing an American accent

  • whoooaaahhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL

  • Comment removed

  • .... Oh my God. OHMYGOD.<3

  • It is a good accent, but like when I try to do a English accent, it's "all over the place" (I wish I could do a good northern accent, haha.) I'm from Long Island though, so I think everyone else in the US has "an accent" - not me. :D At first, he sounded midwestern to me, but the "a" sounds aren't midwestern at all.

  • Aww lol it sounds like batman from the dark night :)

  • That's not midwestern...or if it is, it's only television midwestern. He sounds like a man from Louisiana who moved to Indiana for his job at recording his part in "Family Guy." Doesn't he sound like someone off of Family Guy?

  • What a cute, odd story.

    <
