@seahorsecowboys It seems you have come to our video through a website that is not ours. There is a man, Kacper Potowski, who is using our video without our permission and who we are in no way affiliated with. We sell a fully engineered, entire Growing Dome greenhouse kit that withstands 65psf snowload & 100+mph winds. We strongly encourage you to visit our website at GEODESIC-GREENHOUSE-KITS(dot)COM to see the difference and learn more about what we do. Thank you.
@WeAreLions013 To run on solar power alone, we still plant with the seasons, but if you were to add supplemental heat to the Growing Dome you could most definitely plant out of season. The Growing Dome is the preferred greenhouse when adding supplemental heat because it is way more efficient that other greenhouses on the market.
Hip to the dome an preparing to build, production should start shortly after tax time. I know it's $500 for the shell itself, how much is it for the window treatments
@oughdahinge That's great news! We look forward to getting you started on the path to owning your own Growing Dome. At this time, we sell complete kits. The foundation wall, struts, polycarbonate glazing, solar panels, fans and more are included. Our smallest Growing Domes start at $4950. Call us to learn more 800-753-9333
Building "Earthship Homes" a la Michael Reynolds, in New Mexico (see: "Garbage Warrior" and videos about him here on youtube) is a better answer: grow your food in the middle of your living-room, have water-catchment systems and sewage treatment as part of your home.
@createwealthspokane We actually did try having a garden in our living/Growing Dome for a short number of years and discovered that people and plants have different needs. Now we separate out living from growing except for a small number of decorative house plants.
@ElementalChaosLP Great idea! There's gotta be a programer out there somewhere that would love the challenge of building a geodesic structure out of blocks.
@createwealthspokane what the hell does that have to do with anything ? the point is they would have a way to grow food all the time..reguardless of the weather, you dont have to use this thing only in the Winter Time I'm guessing...
Thank you, folks, for your hard work, I am in Calgary, Alberta and looking to visit a functional model in the area. Are they any around me I could visit?
@johnandrewdaly Nice to hear from you. We do have an owner in Nanton, AB that is about an hour away, but we haven't been in touch with him recently. I'll send you a message with our contact info so we can get in touch and keep you posted as to if a visit is possible. In the meantime, any questions you have, I'm glad to answer. All the best, Stacey Couch, Growing Spaces Staff
Mine sucks. It doesn't allow for a very efficient layout because you can't stager the plants into height rows so that taller plants don't shadow the shorter ones. If I didn't use external mirrors to redirect sunlight, many of the plants I have in mine would do poorly. I would suggest a more traditional row design with flat insulated northern sides, and sloped southern side would be easier to work with, and even expand.
@prancingdog We plant at different heights in our Growing Dome. For instance, we have the low growing crops such as lettuce, beets, and radish close to the ground. Then we have an intermediate height series of crops such as tomatoes, artichoke, beans and cucumbers. Then, higher up we have our fruit trees and grape vines. As the polycarbonate glazing diffuses the light very well and the dome shape allows even light input as the sun tracks across the sky, we have never had a problem with shading
@Xhell420 Would you mind sharing where your growing dome is located? In some areas, cloudy or shaded, things can be a bit more challenging since the growing domes rely so on solar power. You can also call 800-753-9333 so we can help troubleshoot. We are committed to supporting customers and seeing them succeed.
Not necessary to have raised beds, but most people do.
What with bad knees and bad backs,a lot of more mature gardeners prefer them. Also it is good to have the pathways defined
I have a 22 ft with a large center bed which cant be all reached from the path way, so I have a couple of flagstones to step on when I need to access that part of the bed
Have any of you herd of prop s510? well it passed and suposibly thay maid it illeagl to grow food let alone own seed dont baleve its going around look it up. I would like to read the bill but i dont know where to so has any of you read it and under stood what thay mean? i linked other things that have been going around and its sacary if your interested let me know and ill show you my findings and what could happen if thay poot it to gether.
It's creative stuff like this that drives me on....The 1000 gallon pond is a great, beautiful way to get thermal mass... to make it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer! What a blessing it would/could be if this "kind" of thinking caught on?! Hmmm?
I live in the Chicago land area and I would love to have one of these. The winters are so brutal, that I just day dream of having some sort of tropical environment I can escape to for a couple hours a day. Having a 51ft version of this would be worth every penny to me.
Although mine would have to have a lounging space where I could sit on a lazy boy couch and watch a football game while surrounded by tropical plants and water fountains.
Feell like I'm missing out on so many "miracles" by not having a greenhouse due to frost, etc. Researching greenhouse dome construction. This video is helpful.
I really want one of these but first i have to sell my nm home and i really want to move to washington. so that i can raise my kids in a better location. I have special needs children and think a garden would be wonderful for the children to learn and help with. i also want a house that will mostly sustain itself eventaully. it would be great.
This video has inspired me and my neighbors to join together and purchase a Growing Dome. We will share the expenses -and the Benefits of fresh ORGANIC fruits and vegetables all year long in snowy Colorado!!! Thank you Growing Spaces!
Wow! Cool video. I wonder how tomatoes would grow in the dome... With the NJ soil I could have Jersey tomatoes year round?? I am going to check these things out!! I will get the biggest one they make and have tomatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes!!
VERY possible. Im in zone 4 in MN and the coldest it got down to INSIDE was about 22F, and thats with -30F outside. If you had a heater with a 50F thermostat, you would be fine. In NJ, you could grow cold hardy greens ALL YEAR for sure.
It gets into the 90's naturally if its 30F and sunny outside.
More white devils self gratifying themselves. What a crock of shit.
