I am all for long and low, but not long low and round. The more you ask for the nostrils/nose to come towards you, the more the hind disengages. Yes, riding long and low stretches out the back muscles which is very important, but a horse should always be ridden long low and out, so that the back muscles are stretched and the horse continues to carry you well, but so that the hind also remains engaged throughout. As a rider....very nice, but I'd go low and out, not low and round.
Everyone who's commenting like "this is not good for the horse"... she's already said it's an exercise. If i stayed in a squatting position for hours on end it would do me damage, but as an exercise it would benefit me. The same goes for this horse. He moves fantastically and has great muscle tone, so they must be doing something right.
@j09c his ears go back, his eyes is not in any way relaxed, his hind legs go further and further out back, and he looses his swung. his tryes to get away from the bit...and he is far behind the vertical witch makes it difficult to breathe propperly.
I don't know what you call being distressed, but this is not a good way to ride a horse! I'm all for riding løw, but never that far behind the vertical.
Do as you wish but my horse gets more respect then that
I've been working my way through your videos and enjoying watching. Normally, I'm not such an arrogant ass to comment on a video - I realize every day is different and every horse needs a different ride. However, I've watched nearly all your videos and your instructor keeps telling you to "bring his nose in" when he's already behind the vertical. This horse looks to me like he already curls very easily. You seem to have the right instincts, keep allowing him to come back to the vertical..
No, it was not confusing... I just considered it more of an exercise for what he needed ON THAT DAY. He did need to stretch and loosen up, while moving forward.
There was certainly no harm done!
Don't YOU do stretches and exercises that are beyond your normal daily movements? I do pilates which helps keep me stretched & flexible. The horse needs this type of work, too.
I was actually refering to how he was delivering the lesson and what was being asked of you. i made no reference to stretching, what was being asked of the horse or ferering to harm of the horse. you seem to have taken the comment out of context.
No, he was not confusing me, maybe because I have had many lessons with him before.
Sometimes there are things during a lesson that don't exactly make sense, but usually they do after I see the video and the changes/adjustments become more obvious.
That isnt stretching, it is not far short of rollkur. People should watch German vet, Dr Gerd Heuschmann's wonderful DVD 'If Horses Could Speak', to see the sort of damage this type of riding can do. Lord help horses, if this is now considered good work. Ever wondered why there are so many kissing spine operations now?
This was a one-time lesson and not how I usually ride this horse. You should look at the most current video of Corsair at a show in Florida and then decide what you think of him :-)
Its very rare I feel compelled to comment on peoples videos, but Its so disapointing seeing a nice horse a fairly decent rider, being taught such utter rubbish. I've never heard so much tosh from a trainer, I seriously hope you don't pay him to much to put your horse on the forehand and hurried out of his stride.
Please listen back to the video and ask yourself if there is any comment this 'trainer' has made that actually has any meaning at all.

Really nice riding and lovely horse. I think that stretching you were doing would really help my horse as he often gets tense and shortens his neck too much. Also he needs more help relaxing his back and coming through from behind.
how do u make his nose go towards you ???? round him like that?????? plzzzzzzzzzz tell me
