When it comes to protecting our loved ones I think everyone has the capicity for great savagery. Just look at Helen in this episode, shooting Kate in the foot and having to be removed from the interigation room. Druitt has to deal not only will crazy parental protective intincts, but also the creepy dark passenger thing that the electroshocks keep at bay (see 2x11).
