  • Really tasty version sir

  • I'm just a jazz fan--don't play myself, mores the pity, but after more than 50 adult years of listening, I know at least when I hear something good. I have no technical comments I just really enjoy your playing. I'll be listening to more of it. Happily, I found this link on Casey Abrams' twitter page. There's good reason why you would impress a lot of serious listeners with your talent.

  • That one dislike was from a rhythm section player lol.

  • Fantastic!!! Next transcription!

  • Great tone (That comes first in my book)! Also, the overtones are great!!!

  • Wow!

  • great work ! bravo !

  • Haha that was sick (In the best way possible, Ima teenager lol) I literally started laughing out of sheer joy. Keep posting!

  • great job! very enjoyable to listen to your playing! i think the great coltrane would appreciate this, as well!

  • wow that was incredible...

  • Very Nice, and gorgeous sound/tone! Love your playing and melodic ideas BTW! WOW...

  • Lovely! :)

  • Sweet sound

  • just awesome man.

  • Nice sound, reminds me of Eric Alexander. How long have you been playing?

  • This is very cool.

  • you are so good. love your tone.

  • nice

  • Wow gigantic, complex tone.

  • Beautiful! Very slick.

  • this is crazy beastly lol

  • Holy shit. . . sick solo!

  • What mouthpiece do you use?

  • Thank you for listening. This was recorded using a Sugal SuperGonz. For the past year or so, I've been playing on a Peter Ponzol Custom that I've been really happy with.

  • so did you learn how to play like this over this tune from the chris potter lesson? or was that just an aid. cause im contemplating purchasing it.

  • @FightingTheWitness - More like how reading a good book will change your way of thinking about something. Before getting the lesson, I learned Coltrane's solos, and practiced the tune on my own. What I got from Chris Potter's lesson was how to get away from just playing chord change to chord change, and create lines that weave in and out of them.

  • i wish i could play like you! you have some strong lines in there!

  • What's the link to the video of Chris Potter's lesson on this song?

  • I'm sure it's a great lesson. It'll cost you about 30 bucks on his website.

  • yes sir!

  • Giant Steps Jazz Fugue.

  • Bien ahí!!!

  • This is so kick ass :)

  • You the man !

  • It's been a little while sine I used the program (have since started using Linux instead). If I remember, I rendered the tracks into .wav format, then just used an MP3 converter from that point.

  • oh great, I'll give it a shot. Thanks a lot, and keep up the great work.

  • Sounds so killin man.

definitely a fresh take on the tune.

I need to get some better lines, I find myself playin ii-V's almost exclusively. Where could I find that Chris Potter vid?

  • Thanks for your comments. The lesson can be found at Potter's website, google chrispottermusic.

  • Thanks for the lead.

I have a quick question for you:

I just recently started using Reaper, and I want to put my recordings on myspace. I figured the files would need to be converted to mp3, so I plugged them into a sound file converter and they show up as .RPP files, which seemingly cannot be converted to anything. Did you convert your files to mp3 and if so, how did you go about doing it?

  • FASTASTIC!

  • nice man killin tone and lines!

  • You have a great Tenor Sound. Very nice. How was that lesson on Chris Potter's lessons, I came upon it a while ago, and Decided to just learn by ear this wonderful tune.

  • Thanks for checking it out. I thought the lesson was worthwhile. Most valuable were the exercises he wrote out over the changes in eighth-note groups of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. It really helped me to get away from playing 4 note patterns, and try to create more interesting lines.

  • Wow...great job man, this is an inspiration for me for what more I can do on this great tune...thanks and keep it up

  • nice man

  • Very very good job!!!

    Max

  • hey man great stuff whats your setup? and you got the music sheets of that solo thats good shit man

  • do u have the link to the lesson chris potter posted?

  • Youtube won't let you post links in the comments (to keep the spam level down), but if you google chrispottermusic, you'll come up with his site.

  • what is your tenor setup

  • realllllllly good stuff man. that was killer.

  • how are there no breaths in the baritone part?

  • Studio magic. I punched that track in when I needed to breathe.

  • or circular breathing... like a champion... dustinGuitar

  • fuck this is good shit

  • brilliant
