i never heard of anyone relaxing one half of their head and doing the other half a few days later, is it really that much of an ordeal for you, i mean, i have thick hair too but i can do mine all in one setting
@lovelydiva06 I would love to see a video if you would like to share of you relaxing your hair without having to do it in sections. Maybe I can get some pointers?? As I mentioned below, I do it because I want to avoid going over the time.
actually, if you just keep relaxing your roots it will be fine. There is no need to keep pulling the relaxer all the way to the ends if its all the way straight. So just applying the relaxer to the regrowth everytime (and if shes careful) she wont just all the sudden go bald...
just for you and your hair.. it kills your hair everytime you relax your hair... it takes like 1000 maybe more strands of your hair and you can turn bald so i sugest you should stop soon and just use a regular straghtener with a heat protecter spray its like 5.00 at sally's beauty supplies. Iam just saything that cuz u have beautiful hair and i dont want it to die you know... just a sugestion...
the only thing i do before relaxing my hair is don't scratch it or irritate the scalp otherwise it'll burn like hell, lol, oil my scalp with cocoa butter or oil sheen and put cocoa butter all around my face, ears, and neck to prevent chemical burns to my skin and scalp and that's it cause you don't want to have alot of stuff in your hair before relaxing it or it probably won't take well
u cant get already relaxed hair back to natural....to go from being relaxed to natural..u hav to grow out ur hair so that u end up with two textures (this is called the transitioning stage)...and then cut off the relaxed hair!!
@agent648 It does last forever on the ends , It permenant but when your new growth grows in (Like the curlier hair , Natural hair at the roots) That's where you have to relax again!!(:
It is a lot of work but I only do it once/twice year so it's not too bad for me. Thank you all for the comments -- for or against relaxing. More videos coming soon! I'm sorry, life got in the way.
how long does one process of relaxing actually last for? I've been to a bunch of stylists and they're telling me to relax my hair it's like I'm diseased because I have afro hair lol and straightening doesn't help any hint of moisture and it's frozy again :D
Oh wow this is partially what I do too. A couple of touchups ago I decided to clip my hair in sections to apply the relaxer. But I often saw underprocessed parts so I thought maybe I should smooth the hair with the clips to make it more even. I know exactly what you mean about protein, I made the same mistake I used AO GPB on my first post relaxer wash (1 week after)and now I look 4 weeks post. I am so mad that I wasted a whole jar of relaxer. Anyway you hair is pretty & thanks for the tips.
Thats the most ignorant thing I've ever heard. How is it brainwashing and how is it not loving yourself. Man you seriously need to get around other black cultures, because as an AA I've noticed we are mostly the ones with this hang up.
Many other black cultures are natural, relax and natural again and it's no big deal. And how are some bw as you stated brainwashed to to think about white hair, when many bp are around bp, not all, but some? And really this goes for white and other women too when most straighten just as much. Not all white, Asian etc. have straight hair.
Oh and another thing why the hell come to a relaxing forum, or vid if you are so against relaxing? That's like someone who hates dogs and is a catlover going to a dogs forum/blogs and hanging out there. Same with the BWWM blogs that people like to visit knowing they are aginst bw/nonbm IR. Just ridiculous.
Who said black hair is bad? No one here is saying that. And another thing after a while you have to stop worrying about some people and people in a whole are doing and thnking. After a while you are doing nothing, but generalizing and sterotyping. You, I, Junglette and others are individuals, so think as an individual. We are the borg collective. At the end of the it's just hair.
I have never understood the natural vs. relaxed crazyiness. I'm natural, but I'm not going to go off on someone who relaxes. Yes relaxers can be damaging, but so can anything is if not in moderation.
And another thing for naturals who say this. I find it funny, because what if one day you relax? Then you will look like nothing but a hypocrit. Not every natural goes natural for the same reason as not everyone relaxes for the same reasons. In the end it's just hair and it's her hair, so leave her alone.
I don't know what video you are watching. But it's clear this girl doesn't have a brain cell in her head. Relaxing is a sacred technique. But she doesn't seem to be concerned about miseducating thousands of people with her shoddy technique. You should be ashamed Junglette.
I AM ashamed!!! I grew my hair from shoulder length to waistlength without giving my damn money to a beautician and doing my own "sacred" relaxer (that is truely a first). I am so so so ashamed. Nope ... I ain't got one damn brain cell left.
I take tips from your method. It's good for people with thick hair who SELF-RELAX...I wonder if some people are paying attention. Good job, Junglette!
You must be a stylist. Seriously, applying a relaxer is not rocket science. And if stylists were so good, then how come so many black women come out the shop with messed up hair from a "professional" that straightens their hair?
Bunk those stylists, they just mad cause we ain't believing their bullshit lies about need their lame asses. They done pissed me off now! I dont think i'll ever go back to one now. Oh and guess what stylists! My hair is past my shoulders from being only a inch long in one year without your help so shove that up your asses!
Thanks! I have used a protective style since two months from the cut (It was barely making it into the ponytail LOL) I take a multivitamin for a deficiency that I have. I used ORS olive oil moisturizer everyday (faithfully):^> I washed every two weeks (i know this sounds crazy, but I used any type of shampoo and conditioner, I wasnt really caring for it like I do now) But I know my hair retained length because of using the ORS Olive Oil moisturizer and the protective style. I hope that helps!
I also use clips when I relax. I have BSL fine/medium hair. And do not go to a so called professional. I know much more about my hair then them anyway.
Seriously don't sweat these so called professionals. Most of the ones complaining are pissed because they losing money on people who are much more educated about hair than they are.
Yay-e-yay-eeee!! That's what I'm talkin bout. We gotta think outside of the box sometimes to do what we need to do to get where we want to get!!! Seriously, my hair would probably still be at shoulder length if I had of stayed going to a stylist. One told me that she would not do my hair unles I let her cut it ... that was the last time I went to a stylist and was about 7 or so years ago.
My hair was natural with no chemicals so it couldn't be overprocessed. :) You should watch my video about the Sprush. It's better that the brush that you use. :) Good video though. Everything in your video is what I do already.
hey junglette, with the way you are relaxing without proper technique and products it will be,or possibly is. two days to relax? you should also trim your ends every other relaxer. i did watch your video on the Sprush. i heard it was great! i have to try it. also your hair might be reverting back one because of your curly texture. two probably because of the relaxers your using. also overprocessing causes the hair to do that. thanks for sharing:)
Actually overprocessed hair is limp and breaks very easily; it hasn't anything to do with reversion. My hair is resistant and because I don't risk overprocessing, I don't leave it on longer.
I do not need to trim as I am still growing. I maintain the ends by cutting split ends about 1" above the split.
I relax in the time that I do to allow myself time to relax since I do it myself.I don't like trying different relaxers so I will stick with the one I have. A little wave is fine for me.
overprocessing has so many different characteristics. overlapping which is what you do does cause it, it doesnt just mean leaving it on too long. maintaining the ends by cutting 1" above split ends is the same as a trim. that sentence is contradictory. i see you have a hard time excepting constructive criticism. 2 days barettes clips plastic caps. my motto is work smarter not harder. you have nice hair. you should see a stylist every 6-8 weeks for your retouch. wave is great! b blessed
You are't telling me anything I don't know already. If my hair was overprocessed, I would not retain length.
$15 relaxer products...$2 plastic caps... $0.99 barrettes...growing hair from above shoulder to waistlength WITHOUT needing a so-called stylist ... PRICELESS!!!
I think you are barking up the wrong tree with this one.
Oh yeah ... don't forget to get the sprush ... FYI brush applicators are responsible for causing splits in fine hair ... see you learn something new every day!!

I thought it only lasted around 10 weeks.

The hair you relax will stay straight forever. But that hair that grows in will be your natural texture.
You'll have to get touch ups on the new growth every few months to keep the straight look.

611SNOOPY611 2 years ago
the base protects your scalp from the relaxer burning it cuz the relaxer isnt ment for your skin just your hair so...your skin will burn.
