Like Gary Cooper who was also was one of the worst actors ever, neither of these can compare to Brando. Hitchcock never directed anything really substantial, everything was mediocre, nothing he did ever can can compare to Ford's The Searchers.
@92af "He could not act at all." That's why "hack" directors like Alfred Hitchcock, Howard Hawks, George Stevens, and George Cukor always wanted to use him in their films. I guess they could not direct at all.
Cary was a class act. Intelligent, funny, yet humble. Good grief, for those of you on the political correctness wagon, race stereotyping was very common back in the bygone years when Cary was at his most popular. It wasn't right but that was life then. Does that make him a racist? Doubtful.
Well he was getting on but how good he looked the result of taking good care of himself and his body through the years,What really ignorant remarks about some of his films that is the way we all were at the time Get over it It was just an era that had to be lived through. What a selfrightuous dull little person you sound..It was a lot of send up humour you twitt,TheWhitehall
can anyone please clear up this rumour I heard from a workmate who told me that Cary Grant was a necrophiliac. It sounds ridiculous but the guy is adamant Cary was one
@92af Cary Grant wasnt as good as the Spencer Traceys of this world but very few actors in the 30's and 40's had his gift for comic timing and slapstick. He was an incredible performer in light hearted films and should have won the oscar for best actor in 1942. So take your opinion and shove it up your fat arse. Twat.
He said in an interview that he was afraid of a lingering death. Died of a massive stroke three weeks later. He seems so vibrant. Fabulous posture. It's hard to believe he only had another 3 weeks. He should have lived forever like Kate Hepburn and George Burns did
Cary and Randolph Scott shared a house for about 18 months in the 1930's. They also did an interview for a fan magazine of the era and PLAYFULLY posed wearing aprons and such as if they were a married couple. As a result people have sworn for decades they were gay.
I usually check these comments but I've been in Los Angeles for 3 weeks. This comment got by me. I knew Peter Firth briefly when he did Amadeus in NY. I can avow he's more intelligent than his 'fan'.
Your message made me pull out a photo of Peter, ian, Robert Wagner & Natalie Wood (both racisits also, I assume) taken backstage at the Broadhurst dated Summer 1981. The Peter in the photo bears little resemblance to the Peter of today. Lol.
@JuanMacready Sorry. But,I have to disagree. The "Carry on" films were great fun. They sent up "everyone". We should not take life so seriously. The claims that certain people and films are "racist" is getting very boring. I`m not saying that racism does not exist..it does, but it is NOT just a "White" hang up. Lets just relax and laugh.
@TheWhitehall But Gunga Din is certainly a racist movie, it celebrates imperialism and the Empire and many of the Indian characters were played by white actors in blackface.
Cary had a stroke in Davenport, IA and passed away that evening. He was performing his one man show "AN Evening with Cary Grant" that he toured the country with in the last decade of his life.
i think he had high blood pressure also.. oh well he's the only leading man that played confident humorus self-controled gentlemen who always frustrated women that they always pursued him... a male trait element you dont see in movies now

Still looked fantastic at that age, terrific posture, and voice still as silky as ever. Cary Grant is truly untouchable.

He lived with Randolph Scott, another right-wing Republican and bigtime Reagan supporter, for about 12 years.

Grant was a racist Republican just like Reagan and Eastwood.

Why would you possible make a nasty comment on a video like this? Totally unnecessary, really.

JerseySurvivor 2 years ago
Yeah, unlike the draft dodging coward Grant he's intelligent enough not to support far right politicians. And what do you mean you "knew" him?
PeterFirthFan 2 years ago
As a reporter for a NY newspaper at that time, I mean I knew him socially while he was in the NY run. Why the hostility?
JerseySurvivor 2 years ago
Well, Cary Grant was a racist.
So did you meet Peter a lot?

Well yeah but he would look different after almost 30 years.
PeterFirthFan 2 years ago
@PeterFirthFan In exactly which war did Grant dodge the draft? He was too young for WWI and too old for WWII.

ummmm He wasn't racist

How do you know? Gunga Din was a very racist movie.
PeterFirthFan 2 years ago
Too many examples of him working alongside other races. So NOT a racist
tezman1990 1 year ago
Just because there were black actors in his films doesn't mean he wasn't a racist. Gunga Din was a racist movie.

@JuanMacready And what about "Carry On Up The Khyber" ? Truly, shocking and outrageous example of british racist humour!!!

@TheWhitehall Many of the Carry On films are racist and none of them were funny.

he was a hot man up to the very end, strong & secure. His death was such a tragedy..there will never be another Cary Grant
templegirl95 2 years ago 3
Cary Grant was probably the most brilliant actor of the 7th Art : intelligent, funny, handsome...
He had a heart-attack at the Blackhawk hotel the 28th of November 1986 and died at the St-Luke hospital of Davenport, at 23h22.
Regards from France
WANK83 2 years ago 3
He died three weeks later? He looked so well in this video. What did he die of?
He was a great actor, saw a couple of movies of him lately and every time I see one I'm getting more and more respect for him!
