If the NATOPS EP would have been followed the canopy should have been jettisoned before the ejection... and there is a jettison handle in the backseat so don't be giving my boy "MAV" shit lol
He's gonna have like, twelve sets of dog tags. He'll have dog tags in little brown envelopes, dog tags in his desk drawers, dog tags everywhere. Maverick shows a remarkable lack of follow-through by not personally inviting the family out to the carrier to let THEM throw some tags, too.
I love this movie but Jim Rome does have a good point. Maverick was a wild card, he flew by the seat of his pants, he was completely unpredictable. If you asked me if I had to go into battle would I want Maverick there? I would have to say "I don't know, I just don't know"
@MetalHammerUSA Amen bro...you said it jim rome is a coward I bet he wouldn't say this to mav bc he'd get his ass handed to him in a paper bag jim rome you suck and another thing goose was his rio rear instrument officer not his navigator dumbass
I am ashamed of Jim Rome for his sick and cowardly comments. For one thing, it was NOT Maverick that killed Goose, it was Iceman. Iceman flew in FRONT of Maverick and Goose's plane, and caused the jet wash. Iceman is a coward, a liar, and a home-wrecker. What Maverick did, throwing his buddy's tags into the water.... is just Navy tradition. My uncle did the same for his RIO, after his Rio was killed during a combat mission. I HATE you Jim. You know absolutely nothing about Navy tradition.
Jim Rome is probably one of the worst personalities on tv. He is the best at dragging at point on. I'll keep this video in my favorites so when I wanna fall asleep I can have this near by to listen to. snooze fest.
In Mavs defense, Ice Man was getting to greedy wanted the kill for the points, even though he was never going to get the shot he stayed in, and when he finally pulled out Mav got hit by his jet wash, and that is what induced the spin.
it wasnt mavs fault that goose died. it was actually icemans fault bc he didnt go in the right direction that mav told him to go and the air went into the engine wrong.
There was and always will be 'Mavericks' in aviation. In some respects, it's a necessary trait, that ‘no guts, no glory’ mindset. The desire and courage to push the envelope has developed the air combat maneuvering tactics we use every day. The only way we find the envelope boundaries is when something goes wrong, and we use it a learning tool. The harsh reality is sometimes that costs lives. Where would we be without the courage to go beyond what we know?
I was in VF-24 at NAS Miramar when this was filmed. On one hand I agree about the dog tags. I have mine, and my father's, and they are a part of our personal Naval history that I wouldn't give up. I don't have kids, so who knows what will happen to them when I'm gone. On the other hand, I suppose Maverick's actions could have been symbolic of burying Goose at sea, an honored tradition for those of us in the Navy, whether we were black shoe or brown (aviation).
mav is an ass hole, but goose died because of a flat spin and the canopy didnt fly back.
on the other hand he wouldnt of been in that position if he would of backed off and not ventured into ice mans jet wash. your right ice man he is dangerus.
WWWAAAYYYYYYY too much sapphire pre show??? Hey asshat,,, Howard Cossel never talked about "Gone With The Wind". Take a clue from the greats in sports commentary and less from Jerry Springer ramblings. Berman hasnt even sounded this stupid,, at least he sticks to sports!!!
i am sorry but just because u really dislike mav. doesnt mean u have to blame everything on him.....yes he throws the tags in the water why dont u try being mav.and losing a best ffrom yes i had lost a few friends due to sucide but that dosent mean u can freak out on mav. its just a movie man so grow up andpay some respect
Yeah he killed goose. And not only did he not get court-martialed for gross negligence manslaughter, but they didn't even ground him. I mean he was obviously still mentally unstable, but they let him back up in a million dollar, tax payer funded aircraft with another poor human being in the back seat. He treated a military plane like it was his own personal ferrari, showboating around like some teenager. But we were supposed to root for him because he's "Maverick".
@kesayo Um, he DID get court martialed, they even show him standing in front of an FNAEB (when such a board is convened, the pilot in question is grounded) and the board finds that he is fit and "is to be returned to flight duty immediately with no further delay." Just because you're summoned to a court martial does not always mean you are convicted and commute a sentence. Come on now.
Its not Maverick's fault for the ejection and the crash of his aircraft . there was no way he could avoid the jet wash that caused the engines to flame out in which caused enough yawl rate to cause a flat spin .there were to many g forces that pinned maverick forward in his ejection seat and goose was closer to the center point of gravity in the flat spin and he was the only one that could reach the ejection handles. but when a pilot eject's there are retenchion harnesses that keep the pilot in
You don't have a clue what your talking about - you sound like a fag - no idea that's ut's really like streesing over a movie - goose dies cause he was stupid like you
Ok all. When they were flying over the dessert when the plane went down they were in California which is close to dessert and water. Remember they were in mirimar California. And... Goose died because of mechanical problem. yes he did go trough a jet wash created by ice, but both engines shut down which caused the jet to crash. Goose said we got a flame out engine one is out engine 2 down.
what bothered me about this scene was that they were flying over a desert that was probalby miles and miles far and they landed at sea. Wheres the logic to that?
hahaha what an idiot, your getting freakishly stressed over a film. Maverick didn't kill Goose it was an accident caused by Iceman who is the one who causes the flat spin resulting in Goose's death. Maverick is not being slefish when he wants Goose to talk to him, he wants comfort and goes to his best friend for that. Also Goose's wife even says to Maverick that it is basically a good thing he died with maverick of all people so this clip is completely useless and wrong lol
When I was little I won a medal in long jumping. I carried it around in my pocket for a couple months. One vacation I had them and after I saw this movie I threw it in the woods.
i never stopped to consider that maybe the family wanted the tags omg. i see no way around this. that was selfish of mav. iceass was right all along lol
Mav's last words to Goose were to watch the canopy. My DVD has an extra about the making of the moving, and I believe it explains there how it takes an extra little bit for that canopy to clear away, and soo many other things. It was very interesting. Actually only added to the movie knowing how complex it was to make, and how it almost didn't get made at all. I'm gonna guess I've watched it fifty or sevent-five times. Again recently because my 2 year old grandson loves the movie.
I don't see that Mav caused Goose' death at all. Ice did. And that bugs me every time I watch this movie. Ice should have moved when Mav told him to, but he wanted the win. And then he got the award at the end of the movie. Ice never took responsibility for grandstanding. And Mav never threw it in his face either. I think it could go to another movie. I see I'm not the only one that feels that way.
Dude -or "MAV" - My uncle was a F-16 driver, he went down in the Bosnia. His rear survived and got his tags and buried them in Germany where they were based. My Dad got a copy of his tags from the DOD. Sorry dude but your whole rant has got holes in it. And why was it about MAV? Because that's Hollywood man, the story was about him. LOL. If you want to be pissed at someone, then go for Ice. If you want a sequel, that confrontation has to come up :-))))
I don't know if this point was made already, but this said it explained how Maverick killed Goose. It explained what happened because of it, but not the event itself. Maverick did kill Goose; by telling him to eject while they were in a flat spin. It had nothing to do with his cocky personality.
he's dead, you don't have a best friend, and even worse, the kid doesn't have a father, because of you, MAV. Meg Ryan doesn't have a husband because of you, MAV. the navy is now without one of its best navigators, MAV. yet you're the one who's going to get up on that pier and throw those tags like a little girl. selfish, Mav.
