  • why do people say that the genesis version has smaller sprites and that its tiny.its clear to me that all versions have the same sprite size...can someone tell me if its true

  • @Chepito2846 the genesis version has smaller sprites, this video upscales the image so each one is running at the same aspect ratio.

  • Hehe, it looks more like you are playing match maker between chun li and ryu then playing street fighter. :)

  • i have the arcade version on mame32 wit hacks like super slow projectiles and air moves

  • The mega drive version is the only 1 with the extra couple in the guile stage.

  • great video

  • By the way, the in-depth comparison on your website is awesome. I wish there were more comparisons like that on the net.

  • Keep in mind, I'm a huge PC Engine fan, just stating my opinion.

  • I still think the SNES version looks best overall, followed by the PC Engine and the Mega Drive coming in last. The biggest thing I like about the PC Engine version is that the fonts and KO bar look closer to the arcade. Still, the colors are better on the SNES and the linescrolling on the floors is better.

  • I've heard the lines crolling mentioned before and after carefully examining both versions on real hardware with S-Video I still can't tell the difference.

I think that the duller colors on some floors may mask the distortion better to the average human eye through composite on SNES.

I don't have video editing software that lets me do cropping/splitscreen, so I can't make a video clear enough to show what I see in my dvd quality fottage.

  • Look at the way the floor scrolls under the elephants on Dhalsim's stage on the PC Engine. It just doesn't look right. That's the main gripe about the linescrolling, as the rest looks pretty good. Also, I know you say the colors on the SFC look washed out, but I think the colors often look too dark on the PCE, particularly Sagat's stage and some of the portrait. I do agree that the music is more accurate on the PCE, if a bit weak. Still, the PCE port is incredible, much better than the MD.

  • The S-Video of my PC Engine Duo just happens to output a dimmer picture, so the videos appear darker.

As for the screenshots on my site, I noticed a big change when my monitor died and I had to switch to one that has poorer contrast. In particular, PCE pics look darker overall are harder to make out in darker areas. I think that decent contrast is needed because the PCE colors have more range between light and dark shades, but regardless it's all opinion anyway.

  • I compared the floor scrolling of Dhalsim's stage but still couldn't make out any difference. I might make a hi-def wide view to see if that helps, since you're not the first person I've heard mention this.

  • Just look at the way the floor slides under the elephant's feet. It doesn't look quite right. By the way, I've played all versions in high definition on my 1080i big screen, so I can tell the differences. This includes all console versions and the arcade version. The color just isn't quite as good on the PCE as the SFC, in my opinion. Having said that, all the Arcade Card ports of the Neo Geo are vastly superior to the SFC and MD ports. I love the PCE, just stating my opinion.

  • @superpcenginegrafx Look at the Elephants feet on the PC Engine, they don't scroll with the floor, they look like they float when the screen moves. All the other versions it looks correct.

  • @RyuHayabusa06 I see what you mean about the elephants and the floor

  • Snes omits alot of background detail, especially Ryus stage.

  • the graphics of the pc-engine version are closest to the arcade, but the snes version is better if you compare movement: the movement of the floor when you walk + the movement of the backgrounds

  • Grafically PCE version is better than SNES/MD version [of course Arcade is the best]. I think the SNES version was called turbo not CE. Genesis Version looks very poor here but they atleast brought the best version later [SSF II]

  • The PCE version seems to have less layers or depth levels if you will. Also I noticed in E Hondas level the top of the pool in the background actually pans in a 3D mode on the SNES and MD version but not on the PCE. That's an impressive detail I've never noticed before. Many of the levels on the PCE version don't have more than 1 level of depth that pans in the background.

  • A great video as always, SuperPCEngineGrafx. Where did the rock guitar remix of Ken's stage come from; was it a music file that you've found online, or did you make it yourself? What did you use to record the arcade version of the game, also? Welcome, folks. A special feature of the comparisions of games has come. The spokeswoman of Audio Deathmatch is here to bring the visual differences among the 16-bit versions of Street Fighter II Champion Edition to the arcade in The Graphical Critique.

  • Naturally, due to the PCB being able to store more data that cartridges and game cards, the arcade original is very strong in the three factors of color, detail, and parallax scrolling. The Mega Drive appears to be the strongest in terms of multilayered scrolling, with the Super Famicom in a close second, and the PC Engine in last, with only one layer of this effect.

  • In terms of colors, the Super Famicom certainly has a much brighter tone and has more of them at once, while the Mega Drive has a darker look to it with fewer shades, with the PC Engine being the lowest in these. The details within the Mega Drive version look to be much larger with background object (though none of them over excel each other for background animations and object numbers since each portion is relativly eqivalent in each, though the PC Engine seems to lack the most).

  • With two great factors going for each, the Super Famicom wins by a slight lead over the Mega Drive in terms of arcade closeness. Unfortunately for the PC Engine, it had turned out to be the weakest in graphics, but it does not mean it is a bad version to play; it's said to have better controls and clearer voice samples than the other two.

  • The Graphical Critique may return again for more visual differences among the formats. Rankings: 1. Arcade 2. Super Famicom 3. Mega Drive 4. PC Engine (home consoles were compared for closeness to arcade).

  • Once the comparison feature on my site is released very soon, you'll see what the real differences are.

In terms of arcade closeness, the PCE version is actually number 1 overall, unless solely judging by layered bgs. The SFC version is overall probably the least close to the arcade.

The main purpose of this video is to suppliment all the other content and give people glimpse at the full bgs and see how the bg layers compare.

  • Even the full quality version of this video isn't enough to pick out all the differences. Plus there are brightness/contrast inconsistences from the various video output methods.

The PCE version is really much brighter and the Super Famicom version is really darker. The SFC graphics in general are blander and darker versions of the PCE graphics.

  • The SFC version has an extra layer of background over the Megadrive version on about half the stages. You can't make it out in the low quality video.

  • The music is from the SSFIIT HD beta for Xbox 360. The Saturn version of Capcom Geration 5 is used to represent the arcade, since it's the closest port to the Arcade ever released.

  • I did kind of consider that there would be output (or even hardware function) factors that would determine the display, but I wasn't quite sure if there were any, and decided to solely judge from what was present here for convinience, thinking that it was pretty accurate (I did recall the PC Engine version looking brighter than what is presented here, but I remembered some of the stages looking as dark as that display, too, which might have gotten me confused).

  • It looks like several of my judgements were off for the actual comparsion, and you're quite right about not being able to catch all of the details for the stages; there may be a few aspects I had not noticed before even after watching this several times. I attempted to give out a generalization of the three graphical factors of all of the versions; for the next one I'll try to analyze more carefully (and to state that there may be signal differences within, too).

  • Wow, so that came from the Super Street Fighter II Turbo High Definition, did it? That's a pretty good remix for the game! I was thinking that the Street Fighter Collection 2 for the PlayStation was used for the arcade.

  • @superpcenginegrafx I'll dissagree with the saturn one being the closest. Capcom classics Volume 1 on ps2,xbox,and gamecube was arcade perfect.

  • Awesome music! I thouroghly enjoyed this video.

  • sweet video. But it deserves to be seen in higher quality :)

  • The full quality version will be released shortly.
