Everyone is dissing Wesley! I don't see why you all prefer Doyle. Doyle was nice and all (especially with that accent of his), but Wesley really grew into an interesting 3 dimensional character.

This Willow does not seem to project much of a personality. Though, admittedly, it's hard to tell with bit parts in a pilot.
Alyson Hannigan, on the other hand, is TOTALLY AWESOME as Willow! She can be extremely funny and, at other times, convincingly serious. If they made a spinoff around Alyson's Willow, I think many would watch it - & NOT just for her looks.

Alisson was innocent and geeky, the idealistic willow but when she grews up she becomes more body and sexually confident- resulting in an amazingly strong character... i have no idea what riff regan would have done to the part- and i shudder to think lol
I honestly don't think it's the fact that she's a bigger girl that got her replaced. I think it's the fact that she can't act her way out of a box. She was HORRIBLE and it was extremely noticable, especially against seasoned actors like Anthony Stewert Head and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
It's not that she's big-boned (aka "ugly"), but her look doesn't fit the characterization Willow. Add the fact that she doesn't look like a high school student and I'm glad Alyson Hannigan was cast. Granted, it would be interesting to see her take on Willow, but her looks would probably have taken the character in a different direction. But on that note, what is it with Joss and big-boned women? November from Dollhouse was kicked off the main cast to be reoccurring.
Since I grew up enjoying Alyson, I won't say they made the wrong choice. But in context, the first choice was probably more accurate to the character. I mean, not to put too fine a point on it but it was always odd how insanely attractive the girl EVERYONE was ignoring was.

Joss is good about building realistic characters. He chose Riff in the first place. The production company said no.
There is a definite link to character psychology and physical appearance. I *LIKE* Aly as Willow, but the first two years we have an attractive girl with *no* idea she's attractive. It's not realistic, and I haven't met many men who can't tell if a woman is attractive just because she acts odd. Popularity is ancillary. Someone less popular WOULD have been dating her.

This Willow does not seem to project much of a personality. Though, admittedly, it's hard to tell with bit parts in a pilot.
Alyson Hannigan, on the other hand, is TOTALLY AWESOME as Willow! She can be extremely funny and, at other times, convincingly serious. If they made a spinoff around Alyson's Willow, I think many would watch it - & NOT just for her looks.

Alisson was innocent and geeky, the idealistic willow but when she grews up she becomes more body and sexually confident- resulting in an amazingly strong character... i have no idea what riff regan would have done to the part- and i shudder to think lol

I honestly don't think it's the fact that she's a bigger girl that got her replaced. I think it's the fact that she can't act her way out of a box. She was HORRIBLE and it was extremely noticable, especially against seasoned actors like Anthony Stewert Head and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

It's not that she's big-boned (aka "ugly"), but her look doesn't fit the characterization Willow. Add the fact that she doesn't look like a high school student and I'm glad Alyson Hannigan was cast. Granted, it would be interesting to see her take on Willow, but her looks would probably have taken the character in a different direction. But on that note, what is it with Joss and big-boned women? November from Dollhouse was kicked off the main cast to be reoccurring.

Since I grew up enjoying Alyson, I won't say they made the wrong choice. But in context, the first choice was probably more accurate to the character. I mean, not to put too fine a point on it but it was always odd how insanely attractive the girl EVERYONE was ignoring was.

Yeah kinda, but I don't think Willow's problem was that she was unattractive some much as she had convinced herself she was and therefore made herself look as ignorable as possible. I agree, Alyson is very pretty, but in the first few seasons they did a good job of making her pretty bland looking.

Joss is good about building realistic characters. He chose Riff in the first place. The production company said no.
There is a definite link to character psychology and physical appearance. I *LIKE* Aly as Willow, but the first two years we have an attractive girl with *no* idea she's attractive. It's not realistic, and I haven't met many men who can't tell if a woman is attractive just because she acts odd. Popularity is ancillary. Someone less popular WOULD have been dating her.

She wasn't meant to be very unattractive. Just really smart, shy, and akward, and she did dress like a house wife from the eighties at first. good looking people can be outcasts too. Anyway Riff looks like she should be playing a teacher, not a 16 year old kid. She aint ugly or anything, she just doesn't look like a geeky kid. She just looks too ordinary to play a main character. A H may be good looking, but not in the conventional sense. That's why she was perfect as willow. and a good actress

Oh my gosh... I guess with big fat Willow the show wouldn't have lasted 2 Episodes...bad actress... bad appearence and it's just awful...
