The walls, floors and ceilings are not polygonal. The technique you are seeing is raycasting, before its peak of usage in Duke Nukem 3D and Blood (the most advanced commercial raycasting game engines). It's very similar to voxel rendering, but with fewer computations since the floors and ceilings are completely flat.

I played this when it came out and even then I thought this game was practically unplayable. The controls were horrid and the polygon graphics weren't that great either. Flashback was a much more better game.

Why couldn't they just make this a 2D game as well? Really, this was a terrible idea. The first game, Flashback, was a great 2D game that is pretty nice looking game even today. Man, what happend here! Flashback was one of the best games of ALL TIME and then this! I still remember the day i got this, was so fucking excited to play it, intro and cut scenes were awesome but the game itself was and still is absolutely horrific! 3D absolutely butchered this game. I always thought they could of used the same style backgrounds to that of the Abe series, or even better Heart Of Darkness...improved the Conrad sprite, some more weapons, new enemies..sorted! What a let down

I played this game for hours and hours and hours and hours. Totally epic once you become familiar with controls. For the time it was totally awesome, you could run, hide, crouch, shoot, use a shield kind of plasma shield, etc ... and all of this in 3D! The scenario was also really good and very long, took me like 2 months to end the game, i remember.

This was an awesome game!

I actually played this. I remember that my character had no textures.

However, when it came to actual gameplay fun, this game was a -5.

The controls were awful, the aiming was awful (even by mid 90 standards) and the so called puzzles ...

However, I still finished I think half of it :)
