  • good movie, but the quote is taken out of context. Lincoln wrote this speech to the strictly to the confederates, this had nothing to do with the slaves of that time.

  • @FrancisMiyata Google "Lincoln was nominated as the Republican candidate for president in the election of 1860. Lincoln was opposed to the expansion of slavery, but held that the federal government was prevented by the Constitution from banning slavery in states where it already existed. His plan was to halt the spread of slavery." -Wikipedia

  • @Xellos2961 haha first off, wikipedia? c'mon man. if you want real info look at primary source documents. read his letter to Horace Greeley which he wrote firsthand, instead of wikipedia

  • Hate is baggage. Life’s too short to be pissed off all the time. It’s just not worth it.

“We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic cords of memory will swell when again touched as surely they will be by the better angels of our nature.” ------Abraham Lincoln

  • I always listen to this when I'm mad at the world... it helps me to see things in perspective and don't blame anyone else.

  • what song is it on the video?

  • I watched this movie and this was the part that haunted me in my sleep. Literally, I could hear his voice saying this quote that night. It was beautiful.

  • edward norton - the best motherfucking actor ever

  • edward norton is an awesome actor, but that ending scene, he's not good at crying :P

  • i just got through watching this movie on tv and im crying like a baby lol. this was such a great movie... im haitian but i might as well say black. i'm not racist but what he said about hate is so true. this movie made me think that its never too late to change. even though this movie ended on a sad note, it doesnt always turn out that way

  • That was a tear well shed from me today... enough said! Such a beautiful, life-relevant ending to a great film.

  • sad ending

  • it´s a amazing film!! i love these guys edward norton and edward furlong by this movie!! well done...

  • He didnt win because he cant fake cry. but all his other acting was EPIC GREAT....

  • I've never seen a film like this. All film shows the truth, but the both sides of the coin. And the ending scene is just... Perfect... The sea wich look red in the lights of the sun. There's getting dark, and paints the water red- just like blood. Just like blood wich is spilled by the war of racism and lack of communication. By the stupidness of the people. For other conflicts and just more fight. For no chance or time to think about the utility of it.

  • @bauko28 wise words my friend

  • YOU have to BE the change you want to see in the world. -Bumper sticker I saw today that reminded me of this movie.

  • now my conclusion when u ask the wrng questions frm life u wil get the wrng answers. y me????? is the most dangerous one cuz it will turn u into wat ur not.

  • Hate causes hate

  • what song is used in this movie, i almost cried to this song compared to the nature scenes, making me think about him as we watch those scenes rising up into the sunset.

  • It's Bendictus (Not quite sure if spelt right) but it's in the soundtrack basically...

  • whites protect white blacks protect blacks we will never go beyond that in till we remove the worst people outa all races and remove hate from our hearts

  • no...no we gotta get rid of this idea of "race"...this juvenile, primitive idea that because someone looks a certain way they're different or the same.

  • @lunchboxaro I think that is something that happens only in another world, lifetime, or dimension.

  • Sorry dude but he´s really quoting Abrahem Lincoln? Where did you see this?

    Thanks :D

  • Best ending of a film EVER!! That quote and those pictures of the sea.. no words for it.

  • "To skeletor1993" that is what the movie is all about.. and that is why it is such ending.. you can say tolerance but you always have a choice.. and if you listen to the qoute in the end you should get the point of wich dicision would be the best, and that is what the movie is all about!

  • You've totally misunderstood the moral of this film, bigot.

  • yea you missed the whole point of the movie. if he wasnt taking his hatred and turning it into ignorant rage that whole ordeal wouldve never happened and they wouldve still been a happy family. why did you even watch the movie if your gonna stay a close minded cunt?

  • @motomayhem15 i no what he did was wrong but they went to his house to take a truck that belonged to his father that was killed by black people so obviously hes just going to get in a blind rage wtf do you think started the movie his father being killed by black drug dealers trust me you have never been in a situation like that you have no idea what you woudld do

  • no id shoot em too cuz they had guns and it was the cocksmith from the basketball court trying to get revenge. but the curb stomp was excessive. like i wouldnt take race into the situation. id just see its a bunch of dead motha fuckas who are trying to steal my dead dads car.

  • @skeletor1993 that's not the point of the film you idiot. There's a few points. The movie is a test. At the end when the black guy shoots Danny you're left with a choice. Do you forgive him? or does he deserve the same? If you forgive him you pass if you don't then why did you forgive Derek (assuming you did) but not the black kid at the end?

  • @huffnat why did the black guy at the beggining get to steal the truck wit no consequences.your practically stating that people should be allowed to get away without punishment .ii was threatened with hand guns by multiple people stealig my car and i had to shoot to kill i would.your truly an imbecile and have no idea what you are talking about.people think because they are black we shouldnt do anything to punish them if i was him i would go guns blazing and cap his whole fuckin family

  • @skeletor1993 I'm not saying they shouldn't be punished. I'm saying human beings make mistakes and holding grudges isn't worth it. Listen to what you're saying, just for one second think about something other than revenge. You would kill his family because he stole a car? That seems a little harsh if you ask me. Taking a human life always hurts more innocent people than guilty people.

  • @skeletor1993 Yea well as seen in the movie he executed one of them, when he was harmless, and thats wrong.

  • @skeletor1993 Well, if you saw that film, you may have noticed that there are some blacks as some whites that are murdered because of hate. This is real, hate and revenge may not bring anything else than hate and revenge, wich eventually only brings more and more sufferings, for each person. I just wanted it to be clearly explained, because it seemed you didn't understand that message. Cheers!

  • @skeletor1993 Hatred does not cease from more hatred but from love alone this is the universal and unquestionable truth many people who have suffered great loss or injustice seek revenge but ultimately find no peace in their revenge and so the cycle continues, Im not saying its easy but we must forgive them, or even yourself for your actions it is accepting what has happened has happened and understanding the full picture not looking through eyes of anger blurred with rage.

    Namaste,

    Ash.

  • @skeletor1993

No consequences? If I recall correctly, he was curbstomped.

  • @huffnat

I don't think unconditional/automatic forgiveness is ideal, and the movie ends at this point, leaving the question of what's next - for Derek, for the boy, and for everyone else - to the viewer's imagination. It's precisely on that basis that I don't think I could answer the question of whether he should be forgiven.

  • hey anyone knows the name of the music playing background??

  • i think its just random cinematic orcestra pieces. like something they just throw together for the movie and its not a real song

  • We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.'

    Amazingg quotee lol

  • ...anyone know who He is quoting there?....Im assuming Malcom X or M.L.K.?

  • i though it was MLK at first too,

but he is actually quoting abe lincoln :)

  • Abe Lincoln

  • @jemcnick It's Abraham Lincoln.

  • beautiful

  • i no people say oits racist and it is but also in the end it teaches you a lesson and they becom well not racist anymore anyway this movie was amazing

  • after this film...i dont really hate black ppl as much

  • why would you hate black people in the first place?

  • Have u seen black people lately, my God.

But this guy's right, after all, I won't disrespect the moral of this story by continuing to hate blacks.

  • because a black person killed his father and his father although not an extremist was also a racist and tht broke the trust for derek

  • top film

  • amazing film

  • if it were merely karma, why is derek's heart still beating?

  • The blacks wanted to hurt Derek by taking his beloved.

  • Cmon. This story isn't about blacks hating whites and vica versa. It is about how hatred can be manipulated and who were the 2 culprits; the most conspicuous one was Stacy Keach's character and perhaps the one who taught Derek real hatred and bogotry was his father. But, the prison relationships cleansed him especially the black man he worked in the laundry with who really saved his life. And really, "Hate is Baggage"

  • nah man, thay killed him because at the start of the movie, Danny pissed the guy off at the start of the movie by helping the guy being bullied in the toilet.

brilliant movie. favourite movie in the world!!

  • I interpreted his death as a way of representing hate as a vicious cycle.

  • i suppose...never really thought of that :)

  • derek did take it too far but in all fairness he was defending his family and his home.

  • great movie, but this isn't even the full quote... his first inaugural adress is what this is from, on the topic of secession and what not after Buchanan left office.

  • I'm agreeing with you. I guess you misinterpreted my comment, as I think it is hypocritical.

  • Wow. Did you dumbasses commenting on the movie even see it? (that's for SAMFlSHER4017 and people alike).

The movie is really good and the ending has so much symbolism. "zbkasdan" gets it.

  • fuck blacks always tryna start shit

  • There's no need for you to say irrational statements like that. Did you not comprehend the overall moral of this movie? Seriously, it's not just "Blacks" who sparks problems. You're criticizing an entire race claiming that they're the ones that always start problems when it's not. It's human beings in general that causes problems regardless of their skin color. Anyone should be smart enough to acknowledge that fact.

  • it's so sad!

  • saddest but greatest movie ending ever.

  • they were kinda nazi

    so karma, But great movie

  • Then, there was a deleted scene. Which Derick went back to being a skin head.

  • i like started to fucking cry. man i felt bad for that kid. cause like how he says life's to short to be pissed off all the time well if someone told that to nazi maybe the world would be a better place

  • Are you stupid? Dani was a skinhead and was racist to black that is why the black dude shot him. Unfortuanitly it was at a period in young Dani's life where he has found that being racist is truely wrong.

  • Its the ignorance of racism, the black guy was just like danny, angry about him blowing smoke in his face earlier in the movie, but really killed him because he was white, I mean he would have only beat a black dude's ass. Rather than understand and help each other, they can't look beyong race, the black dude was wrong, regardless if danny was racist, but thats the point, both races cry, both races love, what is race in the first place? is the pain worth it? what does that say about our existence

  • You are right. I also find it quite interesting that black people are never referred to as racists, despite some individual behavior. For example, a white person calls a black person a "nigger", they are immediately a racist. Yet a black person calls a white person a "cracker" or "honky", and that is acceptable. I find that interesting.

  • dude the black dude shot him because of the black guys derek killed in the begining. it was a retaliation killing

  • i h8 this scene

danny didn't do anything wrong to that black guy that killed him..

  • wot a great way to end the movie but ppl take it in the wrong way

  • does anyone know where i can see the real ending? where derek is shown shaving his head again?

like the real ending was deleted from the movie cos it was pro-nazi, cant find it...help?

  • i very much doubt that there is an ending like this, because it would not fit the message it carries

  • No, it's very much true. Look it up on IMDB, but if they had included the end where he shaved his head again this film would be totally ruined.

  • wow i didnt know.

but ur right. it would have ruined the whole film.

  • it was probablly just an idea they had initially to end it but decided to not go through with because I just bought the DVD and its not in the deleted scenes so I dont know?

  • i did this quote for a monologue at an audition

  • Me too and I almost cried too.

  • this scene made me cry.its truly a great movie my favorite.

  • why didn't edward norton win his well deserved oscar for this role?

  • this movie is amazing, made me have a whole different out look on things, first time I saw this movie was about 3 years ago, and it still gives me shivvers to this day, it really opens your eyes to things.

  • Good film, but Abraham Lincoln despite what he did for the abolition of slavery was still a racist because of the time he lived in and the views that the black man was still inferior. So in my opinion it isn't the best person to quote regarding this topic.

  • dude hate is baggage lifes to short to be pissed off all the time, dude i like sincerely love that qoute

  • so far i have done everything in my life without using an ounce of hate

  • im sorry but your a faggot happy hippie with no grasp on reality go back to you teepee and and stop wasting. everyones town with your abby hoffman left weeks politics should drawn himself

  • i dont wast peopls "town" lol, no grasp on reality my whole family lives there lives without hate so i hve a pretty tight grip on reallity and sorry if i belive in peace even though it will never happen, why do morons like you constintly use the words "faggot" and "gay" as an insult

  • very hard to respect a race of people who i see do nothing but wrong am i a racist or a realist?

  • realistically, the rodney king speech he made at the dinner table in this movie is true. one in 3 black males has been convicted, STDs are rampant upon their race, as is murder, rape, teenage pregnancy, drug dealing, robbery, and street violence.

but there are still the 2 in 3 that have done nothing wrong. racist is judging them soley on their skin color, realist is going by the facts.

  • you need to look at the bigger picture here. As a race, black people may be more involved with crime, or seem to be, because they have beeen violently oppressed and had no rights from the 1600s until about 1964. The Reagan and Bush administrations dumped drugs into black communities to intentionally ruin them. They have been forced into their condition by white oppressors who enslave us all through debt and war. We call them Bankers, and they own everyone. God Bless America.

  • black people in the uk were not opressed anywere near like they were in america and nowdays they have good access to education and our welfare stats to stop poverty yet they still behave in a socialy unacceptable way why is that ?

  • poverty breeds crime

  • but in the uk we do not have poverty as we have a welfare state with unemployment benefits so that is not a valid reason as a child my whole family survived on the state hand outs as my dad was out of work and i am not a criminal

  • well said. you cant be a criminal. you are white

  • By your anaylsis then, black and white people are in the same situation when it comes to the burdens of war and financial debt brought on by these Bankers. And what evidence is there in this day and age to support that the crimes that black people commit correlate to the civil rights movement 50 years ago or even the end of slavery over 150 years ago. There is no logic to that. Where does personal responsibility begin?

  • Well, obviously poverty breeds crime. It has nothing to do with race. It comes out of being totally desperate. Going into grocery stores and eating things off the shelves. Think about it, it has nothing to do with personality when the gov't is importing cocaine into black communities, and liquor stores and gun stores are allowed on every corner. You need to read a book called

Dark Alliance to find out how our government treats black people. Or watch American Drug War: The Last White Hope.

  • Personal responsibility not personality*

  • that is a horrible thing to say, there is no reason to disrespect a whole race just because many of them are criminals. Most of these people u talk about are simply poor, and poverty causes them to commit so many crimes, and the results of hundreds of years of racism and slavery has made black people poorer and held back, until the 60's when they finally stood up on a very large scale, so I would blame poverty, not race for thia misconception

  • i live in the uk and black people here have never been anywhere near as opressed as in the states yet they are responsible for most violent crimes and the argument that it is because they are poor is rubbish the eastern european population of england is far poorer yet they dont commit crime on anywhere near the same scale

  • owned

  • Dragonfitter- You have no need to worry, You are a realist.

  • Lincoln.

  • ii L0VE THiSZ QU0TE!!

    && ii L0VE EDWARD FURL0NGGG!!!!

    =]

  • why dont u just type normal. that annoys me

  • I love this movie, and it's ended with such a beautiful quote! lol

  • the movie is showing the real over this scene. this system is the end!!!

    greetz from Germany

  • one of my fav movies!!

  • this is da best movie ive ever seen in my life

  • I think the soundtrack is "Benedictus" by Anna Dudly.
