when i bought this lp quad had only been out for alittle while i didnt have only but 4 channel matrix it was fake quad listening to it now on surround fucking rocks i'm a kid again
These guys should have gotten into the rock n roll hall of fame long before Metallica along with Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and all the other pioneers of rock.
GFR was @ they best on stage, rocking the place down. a lot of they stuff sound like thye were just jamming. they onl y had 2 song with funkettes (background singers). all they stuff before 73 was rock'n'blues. 69 to 72 was wild time for music. we play 40 songs, 1/2 were GFR songs.
I use to play hookie from my tenth grade High School classes with my buddy Greg Johnson and we'd take my album to his place and play it over and over! I was hooked to this song....and when I became 22 I began to play the Bass guitar....this song is a blast to jam along with!! I just tune my Bass to the record! Scratch-free it still is since 1970!......Timeless isnt it?
if you still have the vinyl albums you play them backwards they have a subliminal message. they are mostly harmless you CANNOT play CD backwards Check it out
For example I'm your captain repeats these words "my bruises are bleeding" try Stairway to heaven and listen to Robert Plant dedicate his soul to Satan
I still got this album from the time it came out in America having grown up there....I played hookie from a few High school classes just to go home and put this album on for the gang of friends who followed me then!!!! believe me...it were alot of new fans....and today this song still stands strong.....and is fun to bass-guitar with too!!!
Absolutely loved this song back when I was 12/13. The trade off vocals of Mark and Don and especially the female singers make this a pure Grand Funk gem!
Not only was Don Brewer a very good drummer, he could sing as well. The vocal riff trade-offs on this songare so nice. Seeing them live was awesome. And Loud.
This sounds like it could be a cover of an old R&B song (of course it's not) that 3 white boys with a lot of hormones funked up to high hell. Very dirty groove that, as many comments below point out, went totally ballistic live.
There comes the definitive album in every bands career this one just happened to be early on in their career! It is absolute perfection and captures what this band could sound like when they rocked out!
At the 3-minute mark is proof that Mark and Don invented "tag-team" rap!
And I don't care what anyone says, Mark was pretty darn creative with a wah-wah pedal. Those power-chord runs with the wah-wah pedal were a slithery as a snake!
man this album blew me away. i was just like, "fuck"

I love the back up singers. Adds a great vibe. And the gnarley bass line and tag team "rapping"; killer.

I saw GRAND FUNK live in Jacskonville FL 1975...
critics hated them but what good are critics
anyway. The band had added Craig Frost on keyboards by then, and they were great.
