It is a special annual charter train from the 20th Century Railroad Club in Chicago.

Nice me and my dad have been trying to catch it in Chadwick. Last year we went the day it ran and missed it. 5 stars and congrads on the El Captan car.

speaking of fast, should've caught it around Chadwick IL. Once it passes Polo and enters Carroll County, it's a Straight Shot to Burke Hill, then down into Savanna. My old man called me (he lives in Chadwick) said an Amtrak went through town like a bat out of hell.

At one time, I lived in Mount Carroll IL.
Live in Arkansas now, but am gonna try to make it up to see some QC Flames hockey and some Trains in Freeport, Clinton, Sterling, and Savanna.
Yea, you can't drive fast enough through Chadwick to Savanna. Your best shot is to catch the tail end in town in Savanna then GUN IT to the Palisades Boat Ramp. either that or the old army depot.

Which roads did you take from Polo to Savanna? just curious.

Well, I saw it Freeport Road crossing so then after that I headed down Milledgeville Road going like hell (75 mph). I then took highway 40 through Millidgeville and Chadwick, but since we didn't catch it there I went up to highway 64 and just went to Savanna. At Savanna, I went across the tracks at the marina and the Savanna shot was taken on the grain elevator side road.

I chased it from Carter siding to Savanna and I was going 75 all the way and couldn't catch him!

been a long time, since one of the big derailments in MN did Amtrak grace Savanna's Rails.....Kinda hoping with the Amtrak going back to Dubuque IA in 2009, that we get service again.
