  • Yes this is so lovely & please do listen to sull'aria - Carol Vaness & Kathleen Battle.

  • Who cares what the song is about, let's enjoy this piece of music and be thankful that mankind can produce something this beautiful.

  • @Jaycubb22, stop thinking about dongs, it ill becomes you. I agree with you that religion sucks. We do the best we can with our time on the planet and then its wormmeat unfortunately. Its just the way it is, we all want to live forever but who wants to be with Alzeiemers at 80 and pooing in your bed. I hope they play this song when I"m incineratered, but lower key if possible.

  • @Trajan730 oops! I'll stay away from dongs from here on out. Promise!:-)

  • @Trajan730 Incinerated? What are you, a jew?

  • I love this dong. Odd that so many people seem to think it's about their god. HInt: It's not!

  • Lovely to see everyone squabble about poetry and religion ... it is the MUSIC that moves us here. Most of you don't know any Italian, Renaissance or modern. If you are still arguing after hearing this, this music did not reach you, apparently. Why has the poster not credited the COMPOSER: Patrick Cassidy (and Patrick, the world is waiting for the rest of the opera!)

  • this is a song about love and the pain of separation...but it has a deeper meaning and goes beyond the characters...it is a separation of the human being from God and the pain that results..just as Dante was separated from Beatrice and his longing for her is in turn represents the longing of the soul for the divine. This inspiration is why Dante went on to write the divine comedy which featured Beatrice as a guide in paradise.

  • the problem lies in being too dogmatic in what we think should constitute religious music and not really understanding why Dante wrote his love poem to Beatrice entitled La Vita Nuova. Dante fell in love with Beatrice when he was 9 years old and from then on, she remained his muse and symbol linking him to the divine. Sometimes, we experience the divine not thru direct experience but in symbols or images. Love inspired Dante to seek the divine because love for God is the most divine.

  • religion is man-made...look at all the bad things ppl have done in the name of religion...GOOD JOB DUMBASSES

  • I am not at all religious, almost anti-religious you could say,but this is beautiful!

  • mmmm I must be a prophet (sigh) 1. crime debt=disobiedence against God 2. recyclying of old stories, most likely more accounts of other cultures recounting their version of the same event that had occurred.3. Killing and stealing is pretty sad if you need scripture to know that is wrong (true) but in a world of abortion totalling more than the death count of all the worlds' wars combined. If killing your baby is an issue of debate regarding morality ..maybe we are just sad. No one is Good.

  • I think these debates are pointless, this is a secular piece indeed. Can some people interpret it into being something representing religion? Yes they have every right, but the rhetoric being used is not the type that this composer would have wanting us to be using when we spoke about his piece. Who cares what other people believe, just enjoy the music.

  • Jesus is beautiful and is the only way to live after the body expires. all who surrender their hearts to him shall live forever in paradise. as Jesus says if you love me keep my commandments. His commandments were to love each other. Love thine enemies. to love the lord God with all your heart mind strength soul. Christ died already in our place. take his blood in that sacrifice as your voucher, to show the father it is in your heart. It is free for all if willing to let go the world & grasp it

  • @dard1313 Are you insane? Why would Jesus die in my place? I will die when me body can no longer sustain itself ... as any other human, animal or plant. If God was pissed at somebody why would he has to kill his own son? Is he a psychopath?

  • @December314 unfortunately you are asking too many simple questions that are easily explained if you had read scripture but since you asked I will tell you the short answer which undoubly will lead to more basic questions that are all availble in scripture. 1. No 2. because we are made in God's image and God deserves love and so his image is also in his interest to preserve, so we get a second chance at reuniting with him. 3. he killed his son to atone for the crime debt we incurred. 4. No

  • @dard1313 What crime debt? The scripture is written by people in the most backward part of the world 2000 years ago. It is actually recycling of old stories which had been around hundreds of years before Christ - Dead See Scrolls? I have read the scripture - nonsense. The same with the Koran. One has to be very messed up person to need the scripture to tell him not to kill or steal. Mother Theresa never found God but was a moral person. Read her letters. U can be moral w/out God's help.

  • This peice for me has me in tears

  • @daiklaive obviously when i said "everything" I didn't mean those things...that was just an unintelligent comment made by you.

  • @13LaxDawg that's kinda interesting, since Hitler invokes God numerous times in his writing, and the churches are rife with pedophiles. how are we to figure out what you mean by 'everything' when apparently you like to throw in all kinds of hidden clauses post hoc? all i asked for was for clarity since you were putting on such airs of piety. to paraphrase Jesus on the topic of people who make public shows of their piety 'you have gotten your reward.'

  • @daiklaive Apparently you have a college education or you are an independent thinker. For people like 13LaxDawg everything good and beautiful is God’s work. Everything ugly and bad is … I guess Satan’s work or the work of some other lesser God. Liberate yourself. Accept God without questions or a thought and everything fall into place. Good=God, Bad = the above mentioned or just “God works mysterious ways”.

  • @December314 Actually I am just a teenager trying to defend my God, I to am an independent thinker and I just get offended when people like yourself begin to talk down to other less "intelligent" people. Just enjoy the music and it does not matter if people associate good things with Jesus, it is just their "humble" opinion.

  • suits for Jesus and Hannibal Lecter...

  • And to answer some of the questions bellow - "Why was this used in Hannibal?" This is a contemporary song written by Patrick Cassidy specifically for the film. People with culture can understand the parallel between Love feeding Beatrice Dante's heart and Hannibal eating human flesh but also loving deeply the lady FBI agent. Our public education has failed miserably to the point where people cannot understand a simple movie .. but hold on to Jesus

  • @December314 Uhhhmmm actually i believe that everything, including this song is given to the glory of God...but "Intelligent" "cultured" people like yourself wouldn't understand that.

  • @December314 hmmm, that gives me an idea, couldn't it be played at mass when christians eat the flesh and drink the blood of christ? :)

  • @finchfrance There is enough beautiful religious music. Christians and all religious people can listen to whatever they want. Just don't give me BS that this is Jesus music. It is not. We the secular people are capable of creating beautiful things without the help from Allah or Jesus or Buddha. As a matter of record - religions have brought the humanity more pain and suffering than the plague and all natural disasters put together.

  • @December314 It is not religion that killed those people, it was people that killed them. Secular tyrants have killed just as many people.

  • It is sad that most people lack the education to understand art. If they are moved by something they automatically credit Jesus or Allah. This is actually about passion of the flesh and sex not about the church. But it is nice to see halfwits slapping this sonnet on Jesus' face. How fitting;) Ignorance is bliss!

  • This is about the love between Dante and Beatrice and has nothing to do with Jesus or the church. Vide Cor Meum is concerned with the first sonnet. Love overwhelmsDante. He goes back to his room and "thinking of her, sweet sleep overcame" him. Then he sees the vision of Love holding Beatrice. Love says, "I am your master." In one of Love's hands there is a heart on fire, "Vide cor tuum: See your heart". Then Love wakes Beatrice and feeds Dante's burning heart to her. This is about sex.

  • so sad,x

  • than my life, jesus i love more.

  • than my life jesus i love more

  • i was baptised then wore a slayer shirt to church, i heard this song and clicked on this link and now i am crying.

  • jesus i love more than my life

  • about time Katherine crossed the Tiber river???

  • What have the images of this actor got to do with the theme and content of this music. You are degrading the meaning of this piece and I would think true christians would probably offended by the visual representation of their saviour as Chad Kruger from Nickleback. Forget your craven idols and just listen, I think even Satan would think this is great to listen to.

  • what does it mean? What the vocalist are singing about, it's gotta be something about love right? it sounds marvelous and traditional and valuable but old...

  • @zatarra2fast It's source is a Dante love sonnet.

  • Anthropologists and genteticists both concur that the average man at the time of Christ would have been around five foot two and dark, So rather than looking like Barry Gibb ,Jesus would have looked more like Danny Devito.

    God bless Danny Devito.

  • @heeshyboy AHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • Why was this used for Hannibal.. lol? I just think its the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.

  • @Dolphidood It's for that reason it is used in hannibal. I agree with you. You will love duettino sull'aria from Le nozze di figaro too. If you don't allready.

  • @miserablerottensmurf Thank you very much I'll have a listen now.

  • @Dolphidood It was written for the movie, not "chosen".

  • @Jaycubb22 Apparently not. On Wikipedia it says that Patrick Cassidy wrote it based on Dante Alighieri's "La Vita Neuova" specifically about the sonnet named "A ciascun'alma presa". Hence the play in the film I imagine. Do you know if the play in Hannibal is an adaption of this book?

  • @Dolphidood I think the MUSIC was written for the movie, not the words. But now that you mention it, I have no idea what opera Hannibal and the inspector were supposedly seeing. Good question!

  • @Jaycubb22 Wikipedia is not that reliable but more useful and reliable than most FREE information but then again what is 100% reliable with a 'chinese' whisper' effect of science to statistics to books along with the factors of perspective and authority. Thanks, I will have an extra look.

  • you know its the man who plays chrissie's dad in holby city right!

  • jezus needs a shave ...

  • Damn music never makes me cry...but this one did dammit

  • Is be@tIfuL!!!!!! i love $o much!!! D&C

  • is beatifulll!!!

  • Please, is there an english interpretation of the lyrics? Thank you.

  • @Ty987678 Yes, the lyrics are a poem by dante. If you look at other you tube videos of this song some have subtitles with the translated words. They are as beautiful as the music...

  • This is honestly one of the most moving peices ive ever heard. Just beautiful!

  • Jesus was a "He"''''

  • that jesus is now in Holby City on bbc1 he plays a male nurse (the boss) his real name is Robert Powel, i think this tune and looking at him as jesus cor blimey fantastic

Be sure to look for Musselman High School Marching Band 2010 around November or December for our finished show at it's best

  • Music is great, the video's photography detracts from the beauty of the sound.

  • @seanjsiry i totally disagree but hey..thats life!!!!!!

  • one word : beautiful - one of the few songs that can almost move you to joy and tears at the same time, i think whoever decided to use this in hannibal was a genius this is perfect example of his characters taste, incredible song when ever i need to relax i put on my headphones and turn it up

  • The composer of this music is Patrick Cassidy from Castlebar Co. Mayo in the Rep. of Ireland...my home town...makes me feel so proud!

  • It's incredible. I'm a hip-hop and r&b fanatic and I heard this song from the Hannibal movie, and I was taken away on how beauitful it is. I am so glad I found this on youtube. I can't get enough of hearing this song. It's takes me to a place far away from my own world. An amazing song.

  • I want to know the author of this magnificent opera!!!is simply genial!!!if somebody know it please tell me the name of this composer .thanks

  • I love this song the person who created this piece probably didn't know what popularity it would get years later. brilliant piece of music

  • I cried.. and im a man..

  • @Angmarr its ok i did too

  • @Angmarr and there is no shame in it for it is a wonderful song

  • yes !!! you are right !!!

  • @PunkModernist indeed...this is a work of art

  • The simple truth is.

If there was no God there would be no beauty.

Because who would have put beauty in our hearts.

  • I fail to see the connection between La Vita Nuova and some ridiculous nutter from bronze age Palestine.

  • @jomahubo Jesus lived in the iron age, not bronze age. The bronze age ended in the time of the Trojan war.

  • Simpley Beautiful!

  • Jesus Of Nazareth FTW lol. Robert Powell was the best!

  • Phenomenal

  • I love it is the best opera in my opinion

    :)

  • there are many intense styles of music, gospel, jazz old school, classical and opera and any soul music.

  • @PunkModernist Completely agreed. I am an atheist myself, but this is just amazing. Truly amazing.

  • Forget the video. The music, the melody makes my soul ache and want to fly to heavens at the same time. It makes we want to drop to my knees and believe...

  • great music ...... cant be bother with twats saying jesus was nice looking and great ? where you there to see ? no he might have been a CUNT how does anyone know ? im sure god or jesus would be sick if they look down at all the holly pedofiles today

  • @Fred1is1awesome here is a pattern. before religion nothing. after religion, the greatest things known to man. I'm a professional historian, but what does that really mean? Test it, yourself. Reality is scary!

  • @Floodlezoot The Renaissance was a HUMANIST movement. Be aware.

  • So amazingly beautiful. People actually think it's christian too.:-)

  • I hope you're being sarcastic because this is Christian. Its taken from the book of Pslams.

  • @mybrokenheart09 The lyrics to this are not from the book of psalms. They are from a Dante love sonnet. It was written for the movie "Hannibal".

  • @Jaycubb22 Hm, I must be thinking of a different song; my bad.

  • @Jaycubb22 Hm, I must be thinking of a different song; my bad.

  • @Jaycubb22 Hm, I must be thinking of a different song; my bad.

  • There is no superlative for this piece of epic music...simply beautiful!

  • When i was a kid i would have these kinda songs play on my stereo to put me to sleep. it's not scary its soothing, it's music to communicate with god. Has anybody ever felt that way? Well it stays with you if you know how to feel this kinda music. Great vocals.

  • CELESTIAL!

  • i would love the lyrics to this song tattooed on my stomach!!

  • there is a god , i see the results of his love everyday. yes there is a god

  • One of the great unfinished Opera's. The words to Vide Cor Meum were taken from Dante's La Vita Nuova (The New Life) where Dante describes his first forays into poetry. my interpretation is: And thinking of her Sweet sleep overcame me I am your master See your heart And of this burning heart Your heart (the chorus sings: She trembling) Obediently eats. Weeping, I saw him then depart from me. Joy is converted To bitterest tears I am in peace My heart I am in peace See my heart
  • thinking of her, sweet sleep overcame me

    I am your master,see your heart.your heart

Joy in converted to bitterest tears, iam in peace
