I don't think this song is just supposed to be deciated to international brigadists but rather is a more nuanced look at the conflict and how good intentions can be corrupted. The point is that many of the leftist intellectuals came to fight the fascists in the name of another movement, communism, that was incredibly opressive in its own right. It's an excellent music obviously despite its political character. I don't think that there was a good side and a bad side in the Spanish Civil War. The two movments were composed of thousands of good and bad people. Massacres of innocents were carried out by both sides so it's not very coherent saying that a leftwing movment, inspired in comunism is a group of angels, a bunch of victims who wanted democracy and peace. Most of all, it was a dirty war.

I don't think this song is just supposed to be deciated to international brigadists but rather is a more nuanced look at the conflict and how good intentions can be corrupted. The point is that many of the leftist intellectuals came to fight the fascists in the name of another movement, communism, that was incredibly opressive in its own right. The song was inspired by George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia, which was clearly not intended as a tribute to the international brigades.

It was an anti-IMF demonstation and this is the reason there was not a huge demonstration for the Gaza ships this year. But have no doubt for the feelings of the greeks.
Anyway, the way things go, maybe the next international brigade will be for greece.

@Mamurai As far as what I've written, I never blamed anyone. I just said that the people of my country will resist despite the fact that this treatment is totally unfair. In addition, you should know that a referendum over the EU membership was never conducted in Greece, unlike other countries. All the declarations for partnership, friendship etc in EU is a tremendous lie. The don't care about the weakest partners, they just maintain them to prevent the system from collapsing.

It's an excellent music obviously despite its political character. I don't think that there was a good side and a bad side in the Spanish Civil War. The two movments were composed of thousands of good and bad people. Massacres of innocents were carried out by both sides so it's not very coherent saying that a leftwing movment, inspired in comunism is a group of angels, a bunch of victims who wanted democracy and peace. Most of all, it was a dirty war.
