Just a tip for what I do for different colors is take 2 of the tulle pieces (ex. one red one black) hold them together so that the ends are aligned and then proceed the same way. It'll be fuller and faster :)
Interesting. It reminds me of the sewing contest on the Fashion Fantasy Game. I heard that the prize is a Singer Sewing Machine and $500. I'm entering.
I was ordering tulle and I was wondering what width to order it in or does it matter?/ Cause they were selling it in 3, 6, etc widths but the how would you cut it?
This video was ssoooooo helpful! I had a fashion show at my school and it had ot be out of recyled materials so i did this with multi coloured bin bags! Was so awsome!! THANKS!!
Thank you SOOO much for sharing this- I made a no sew tutu for my daughter's halloween costume (Lady Bug) and got so many compliments :) I can't wait to try some of the other things you have posted!
I wonder if she knows how to sew tights, since she does it for tutus. Speaking of which (and this may be off-topic), but has anyone heard of the Fashion Fantasy Game? I heard it was great for people who sew.
If I use elastic instead of ribbon do I sew the elastic together at the ends??? Or is it just easier to use the ribbon? Please respond to my email: sfuller7177@gmail.com Thanks.
This tutorial is awesome. I wanted to go as the Black Swan for Halloween but didn't want to spend a whole lot of money so I made my own tutu following your instructions. I bought 4 yards of black tulle for $16 and used an old belt to loop the fabric too. It turned oit amazing and I got so many great compliments. Thanks for much for saving me a ton of time and money!
I recently made a black tutu for my black swan costume and it turned out lovely! I used nylon net for the bottom layers and the top layers I used regular tulle. I just wish I watched this for cutting my tulle. it sucked cutting individual strips :(
@silverstream134 HEY I'M MAKING A BLACK SWAN COSTUME TOO! How did you layer your tutu? Is there any way you can make a video or send me a picture of your finished costume?
i am making my 2 month old daughter a halloween one for october! the colors are white, black, light purple, and a black tulle that has a spiderweb design on it! it is looking fabulous! also the ribbon is purple with white polka dots. THE CUTEST! Thanks so much for the video!!!
I made one just like this but after my daughter wore it one or two times, all the pieces of tulle rolled up and it looked really messy. What did I do wrong? Will better quality tulle not do that? The tutu looks like a big ball of mess now!
I made my tutu, it looked super cute but when my daughter wore it the tulle kept sticking and bunching up together. Am I doing something wrong and how can I keep it from doing this? Thank you! :)
This was so helpful! I had ordered a tutu online for an event i am going to next wednesday, but i recently found out that the website i ordered from isn't reliable and i wont receive my order for a while :[ but thanks to you i can make my own tutu! you saved the day!
Great vid!! I want to make a tutu for my 3yr old nieces bday party, and this vid deff helped! I never realized it was that easy! Can't wait to make it!!!
I love love love this video, however, I want to make them for newborns. How long would you recommend the ribbon be and how far in for the knots. Also, how long would you make the tulle?
I loved your video, I started making tutu's a few months ago and want to sale them but I havent found anyone intersted in buying. I have priced my tutu's very cheap, anyone got suggestions? I have a facebook page called Fairyland Tutus if you would like to take a look and I will return the favor to you.
TOTALLY doing this!! I've been searching for tutus online and in stores and couldn't find a good one. I'm doing a video with some friends and I want a tutu for my outfit, and making it is the perfect thing for what it's based off of! thanks so much!
YOU MADE THIS VERY EASY THANKS..I just had one question at the end u just tie it right ..when lil girl use it does it fall off ..or u use something to make it fit right..
Your videos are really good. You should check out interactive facebook tv on Facebook. That way you can stream live and actually answer questions and interact with your subscribers, its like having a tv show right in Facebook.
i am new @ this. how do i know how long to cut my ribbon and where to make my knots if i am making tutus to fit an infant as well as a 6 & 10 year-old?? i do not want it to slip off (especially the baby) but don't want it too snug either. thanks so much!!
Saw this video yesterday. Loved it! Ran to the craft store and bought all the supplies. Its so easy and comes out SO beautiful! I am almost finished. Took more Tulle than I thought it would. About 125 pieces for a 23" waistline (for my 4 year old daughter).
@wowzzydotcom I made a tutu from your tutorial and it turned out perfectly! I actually found rolls of tulle from a craft's store that were already about 3 inches in width, so all I had to do was measure out a strip and cut it! Saved a BUNCH of time! Thanks for everything!

So how long is the ribbon? 20 inches on either side and 20 inches in the middle...Is that 60 inches in all? I wanted to make a princess gown and wanted to modify the tutu into longer piece. Because I am only using one strip and not folding in half to tie will it still be poofy? I just don't wanna start cutting and tieing without some sort of visual....Im not a seamstress or do anything crafty like this. This is my first attempt, so I apologize if these questions seem really dumb

Thanks to your instructions, what started as last minute Halloween costume idea for someone who didn't consider herself crafty AT ALL has sprouted a part time home business. I wasn't sure how much tulle i needed ended for my 1st costume idea & I ended up using about 10 yards, lol. Needless to say, she was the fluffiest ladybug on Halloween night. Thanks so much! Do you have a web address where I can send you a pic of my 1st ever creation?
can you show how to make a tutu with decorations inside of them ..like flowers and pompom balls? ive seen them and i know how to make a regular no sew tutu but i cant figure out how to make the kind with stuff inside of them!
@jessicaorourke1 Hi there, let me do some experimenting and I will post something in a few weeks. I have never made one before, but I have an idea on what to do!
@hils39 I did some research and found a few ways that were suggested. 1) wash in cold water with a little mild detergent in the bathtub, without crunching up the tulle, lay flat between two towels to gett excess water out, and then hang to dry. 2) Wash on gentle cycle in a lingerie garment bag and hang to dry. You can iron the tuule if necessary on a low to med setting ( to hot and the tulle may melt) Hope this helps!
This was a really great tutorial. Nicely done. I made my daughter's tutu yesturday and it is gorgeous! With the left-over end pieces I made a matching tutu for her dolly. Thank you so much.
I just made one for my baby who is 6 months, it looks great I was able to buy the supplies for less than $5 and it looks great. I couldn't find one to buy for the price I wanted to pay they are expensive for just a tutu. I'm so excited for her to wear it this was just what I needed.
@estmart1 I am so happy that your tutu came out perfect, and that you saved a lot of money. Now you can make them for her as she grows and starts dancing around the house!
i absolutely LOVE this video ! all the other videos are so complicated ! >.< today i bought the tulle & im in the process of making the Tutu right now. :) but i dont think i bought enough tulle . :O
Im a size 3 in jouniors about how much would you need for a 2 colored tutu? like how long do the strands that you tie around the waist ribbon need to be?
@gagacorpse89 I have never made one, but I suppose you can make the first layer, and then go back and do a second layer between the knots of the first layer. hope this helps-Julie
I am thinking about making a tutu for Halloween.,! ii Was going to buy one for 12 dollars but do you think buying ribbon tulle and a ruler would be cheaper.? And i want mine to be really puffy and like two colors. ii wear a 14 girls so i d k how much tulle ii would need. Please Respond.
@kiia2010 If you can find the tulle on sale for around a dollar per yard you could probably make a really puffy tutu with two colors. you will probably need 10-12 yards.
Thank you so much for posting this, my 3 year old decided that she wants to be a cat for Halloween at the last minute, and now we NEED a cat costume! This is purrrrrrfect!
You seriously can't mess this up! It's foolproof. I made one...I'm a size 7-8/30 inch waist in juniors and believe me, 3 yards of tulle was enough for me :) Love it. Thank you
@LeoParDLiNDSEY did you use the longer tulle or make it shorter like hers? Because I'm the same size as you and I also got 3 yards. I was just wondering how you made it work :)
@theeitalianbum basically, i just followed this video, and it worked great :) I also marked the ribbon evenly where it should end the tulle and that helped a lot.. you don't want a gap in the back!
and mine turned out pretty dang poofy. I'm surprised how far 3 yards went in making this
i want to make a tutu for my halloween costume.. but im not 2 years old lol im 5'8'' and i wear a size 2 pants.. any suggestion on how to make it since im bigger? also, i want to put cheetah print material in it too, would that still work as well? please get back to me n thankyouu(:
@posiiefool You will probably need about 10 to 12 yards of tulle and you can use fabric but it would be better if you could find some cheetah print ribbon, then it wouldn't fray. For an adult just don't make that 2nd cut leave it in one piece, you may have to trim to the length you want. Hope this makes sense! have fun-Julie
thanks for this! need tutus for my daughters 4th bday party... and do not wanna go buy a bunch of them when i can make as many as i need for cheaper! and this is so EASY that even I cant mess it up!!
I'm going to make a princess dress for my daughters for halloween and want to make these longer. I know you said something about making it longer, but I didn't quite get that. Do I need to just buy twice as much tulle?
Just a tip for what I do for different colors is take 2 of the tulle pieces (ex. one red one black) hold them together so that the ends are aligned and then proceed the same way. It'll be fuller and faster :)

Cute! I need a tutu for an outfit I'm working on...But is there anyway to make it poofier? Like by putting 2-4 pieces on together?
ArielDarkBlade69 1 year ago
@ArielDarkBlade69 Yes, you can put more pieces together and pushing the knots together really close to make it poofier.

@wowzzydotcom Thanks... I'm definitely going to have to try this then :)

I just made one for my baby who is 6 months, it looks great I was able to buy the supplies for less than $5 and it looks great. I couldn't find one to buy for the price I wanted to pay they are expensive for just a tutu. I'm so excited for her to wear it this was just what I needed.
estmart1 1 year ago
@estmart1 I am so happy that your tutu came out perfect, and that you saved a lot of money. Now you can make them for her as she grows and starts dancing around the house!

can anyone explain how to make a MULTI LAYER tutu??
gagacorpse89 1 year ago
@gagacorpse89 I have never made one, but I suppose you can make the first layer, and then go back and do a second layer between the knots of the first layer. hope this helps-Julie

I am thinking about making a tutu for Halloween.,! ii Was going to buy one for 12 dollars but do you think buying ribbon tulle and a ruler would be cheaper.? And i want mine to be really puffy and like two colors. ii wear a 14 girls so i d k how much tulle ii would need. Please Respond.
kiia2010 1 year ago
@kiia2010 If you can find the tulle on sale for around a dollar per yard you could probably make a really puffy tutu with two colors. you will probably need 10-12 yards.

@amyrocha Awesome, have fun making her Tutu!!

You seriously can't mess this up! It's foolproof. I made one...I'm a size 7-8/30 inch waist in juniors and believe me, 3 yards of tulle was enough for me :) Love it. Thank you
LeoParDLiNDSEY 1 year ago
@LeoParDLiNDSEY did you use the longer tulle or make it shorter like hers? Because I'm the same size as you and I also got 3 yards. I was just wondering how you made it work :)
theeitalianbum 1 year ago
@theeitalianbum basically, i just followed this video, and it worked great :) I also marked the ribbon evenly where it should end the tulle and that helped a lot.. you don't want a gap in the back!
and mine turned out pretty dang poofy. I'm surprised how far 3 yards went in making this

i want to make a tutu for my halloween costume.. but im not 2 years old lol im 5'8'' and i wear a size 2 pants.. any suggestion on how to make it since im bigger? also, i want to put cheetah print material in it too, would that still work as well? please get back to me n thankyouu(:
posiiefool 1 year ago
@posiiefool You will probably need about 10 to 12 yards of tulle and you can use fabric but it would be better if you could find some cheetah print ribbon, then it wouldn't fray. For an adult just don't make that 2nd cut leave it in one piece, you may have to trim to the length you want. Hope this makes sense! have fun-Julie

I'm going to make a princess dress for my daughters for halloween and want to make these longer. I know you said something about making it longer, but I didn't quite get that. Do I need to just buy twice as much tulle?
nicolechunter 1 year ago
@nicolechunter If you don't cut the strips inn half it will be longer and yes, you will need twice as much tulle. Hope this helps and have fun!
